    It comes with the weather stripping now, and locktight for all the screws.
    the weather stripping doesn't get folded up either!
    Thanks for the video guys

    It works well if you use a 3/4” punch and punch out a hole in the direct center. Good tip I learned from Micah at UpTOP overland.

    • @the_black_arts
      @the_black_arts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup. I severed the metal spine @ either side of each set of mounting points, then took a box cutter to remove the spine & rubber which seats in the rain channel leaving just the top rubber that sits flush with the roof. I put blue tape on the roof next to the channel at each mounting point and matched each bolt hole on center in the channel and marked it on the blue tape. I reinstalled the trim into the channel and then transferred my marks from the blue tape onto the trim, and then used a 19mm hole punch for the 5 holes. I punched the holes out from the top side of the trim to avoid any kind of ‘blowout’ on the visible side of the trim. Each hole lined up dead solid perfect over the roof bolt holes and the spacers fit beautifully snug into the 19mm holes I punched. End result was a super tight tolerance install that looks OEM precise. The only snag I ran into was that the rear driver side roof bolt hole was about 1/4” shallower than all other bolt holes and the supplied hex bolt bottomed out before it could be snugged down flush onto the rack. A quick trip to Home Depot for a slightly shorter M6 hex bolt fixed that. Start to finish in about 2 hours. My only concern with the rack and supplied mounting hardware is that the front Prinsu mounting points sit uncomfortably close to the roof, probably 2-3mm. Prinsu really should supply some spacers that are 2-3mm taller for the front mounting points. I may toss a washer or two on top of the front spacers to give me a tiny bit more clearance just to ease my mind.

    Good video fellas. Little tip as far as getting the holes drilled in the roof trim. Section out the metal strip before drilling the holes with the wood bits. That metal strip cuts easily with some wire cutters. Keeps that roof trim looking really good and the bits won't bind

    I helped my friend install his primary and we used I think a 7/8 hole saw bit to cut the hole from the top after we used snips to cut out the rubber and metal band running through the trim.

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That definitely would have worked better than what we did.

      Thank you. Yea we tried doing that but underestimated the strength of the steel strip. I would exposed and cut the strip with tin snips.

    Nice! I installed mine last fall. I also got the topper rack by prinsu for the canopy. Easy easy install on both! I have yet to put the weather strips back on...just trying to figure a way to cut the holes as so what happened with you doesn't with me! I have a few more goodies being attached to the rack soon...road shower tube being one of them👊💥 Keep an eye out on my IG, that and the new lift will be posted soon.

      @AdventureBuilt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pdx.trailerguy very nice man. The Prinsu rack are very nice. Unfortunately there has been some really nice racks that have come out recently. Oh well prize money well spent. I ended up doing a Yakima rack over the camper shell and just installed my Yakima awning to that. So nice. It’s my first one. And I also recently got a road shower. We are going to be road shower twinsies!!! I’ll keep an eye out for your IG posts.

      What are the new racks you are talking about

  • @jonkirkwood469
    @jonkirkwood469 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nicely done and informative. I agree the fairing needs a roof-matching curve. Those gaps on the sides must howl at 60. What's it like washing/waxing the roof? Do you remove the crossbars?

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much. They really don’t howl but it does produce wind noise. It’s not terrible. I have a rifle case with recover gear and a shovel and those just add to the noise. Washing I just go under the bars the best I can. Haven’t waxed it yet but when I do I’ll take the bars out. I might just pull the entire rack.

  • @mredofsc1937

    Nice video, thanks! One question--- does the shark fin antenna fit even or below the cross bars? (I may have missed that in the video).

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much. So I placed the shark fin between the bars because it barely clears and didn’t want a bar bending into it. There is some flex to the aluminum cross bars.

    How does the height of your bars on your shell match up with the prinsu bars? I am planning on getting a shell and need to be able to haul long lengths of lumber and am trying to plan out what systems combined would create a level system. I like the prinsu bc you can use the factory gutters, i hate using those clips that grab around the roof frame. Yours looks great and super functional

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man. So using the Yakima bars on my shell means that they sit a couple inches taller than my prinsu rack. I’m pretty sure you can put a prinsu rack on your camper shell and it will be flush all the way across. Best of luck.

    Awesome vid! Can you make a video about installing the PRO grill with the 2020 front facing camera? I have that in my Tacoma and I don’t know how to adjust the front camera

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man. I have been looking into that and there are not any good options out yet. For me it’s the camera and the sensors behind the front emblem. Honestly I might just keep the stock grill. It’s beefy looking.

    Nice truck man, thanks for the video! I'm wondering...does the water get trapped inside the channel, since you've cut pieces of the weather strip? Thanks 👍

    • @AdventureBuilt

      Yes a little bit but the silicone keeps the threads protected.

    • @cantley47
      @cantley47 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdventureBuilt the stagnant water in the channel is what scares me a little bit (in the long run) and probably the only thing that's holding me back from purchasing the rack. I appreciate your quick response, cheers

    How much height does it add to the truck? My truck has a lift and don't have too much extra space before I won't be able to park it in the garage; BTW in the valley as well.

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian M. The overall height will add 3.5” to your truck. And 3.5” is a big deal neighbor.

    I was able to successfully get 3/4" holes in my trim and keep it all one piece. MOST of the time nobody even bothers with the trim which in turn bothers me

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice. I tried doing the holes first but the metal strip inside wouldn’t go and slipped to the side. So I just cut it. Honestly I don’t even think about it since it’s covered by the mounting plate. Luckily.

    Are you sure the protrusion in the t-nut goes up? That protrusion does not sit flush in the channel opening... And in the instructions from CBI, the image shows it the other way around.

    How did you mount the traction boards on the prinsu rack?

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I basically took 2.5” long carriage bolts and ground down the sides and face of the bolt until it fit into the prinsu track. Then I put the bolts threw the holes on all 4 corners and hold it down with big washers and wing nuts. Has never come loose.

    • @AdventureBuilt

      I look some small carriage bolts, ground down the head to fit in the track secured the trax with large washers and wing nuts. They are very secure but a slow process to take of and on.

    • @AdventureBuilt

      Yea they are definitely noisy but that is the price you pay to have storage on the roof. Outside of a Thule Box which are still loud, not sure if there is anything better.
