  • Ive been looking for a low profile cab rack for my Tacoma. And I settled on Prinsu. It seemed to offer the best platform with the lowest profile, and a light bar... even if it is kind of expensive: prinsudesignst... This video is not sponsored. Just a fun project video.

    You remind me of a very competent maintenance tech I knew in the Air Force. It's rare to see someone take the "more complicated, but better path" rather than the easiest one.

    You could try putting a thin strip of rubber under the mounting bracket, better safe then sorry, Love the vids btw

      That way you would guarantee that everything shakes all time. Better to just mount a rack that is not wrongly made.

    I thank you so much for this install and noticing the "closeness" of the rack tho the roof. I bought and installed more trim (similar to the wind trim) to each piece on the roof. Gotta protect the paint. Wouldn't have known had you not noticed it

    Normally people that install them professional install rubber pads under those mounts because of vibrations and to prevent damage. Might be something to consider

    Before I wanted a Prinsu, but now UpTopOverland's Alpha roof rack looks to be much more functional while looking much more rugged. With side scenelights and those nifty grab handles. Been following them since their start up. They talk with the community often and seem to be more open to feedback. If only I had the money to afford it... Someday.

    Thank you for not just hacking the weather stripping to pieces. I cannot believe people rip things apart during an install, hack off useful pieces of the truck and just call it a day. That's shoddy workmanship and in this case would also leave unacceptable points for water to pool on the roof and eventually work its way into the roof of the vehicle.

    The part of the video that I really liked was when you were on both sides of the truck tightening down the bolts in the front of the rack. The suggestion of the silicon is very smart. I didn't get to see what type of silicone you used but I would hope it is non-corrosive. Something like an aquarium grade silicone. Being under the weather stripping like you won't be able to see if it starts to corrode.

  • @ppark2123
    @ppark2123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Few things there the roof rack mounts to the truck there are spacers to lift the mounts off the roof and you’re supposed to silicone the holes

    You should put a bit of rubber under those brackets as you're correct, they may damage the paint, which could lead to rusting.

  • @I41535D
    @I41535D 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a solution for that (referring to time stamp @ 7:01 )
    Use plasti dip two coatings make a nice rectangular mark size to if heavy items were to be loaded the brackets won’t chip the paint, it will rest on the plasti dip coating

    Good vid. IMO, 3/4" is too snug for the spacer hole size. At that size the spacers are super tight, and in that case you have to be exact in order to line up with the holes. My installation was a PITA because of that.

    How about putting some slim strips of rubber under the two front mounts so that when the roof rack is loaded they don't directly touch the roof and possibly damage the paintwork or dent the roof?

    With the attention to detail that you put into your work fixing smart watches found in lakes, to that awesome Offroad wheelchair you had built I had to save this video since I’ll be picking up a Prinsu Rack for my Ram this BF.
    The only thing I’ll do differently is wrapping my roof satin black since it will be harder to clean with the rack over-landing gear. I also contacted Prinsu techs they mentioned the possibility of interference with the antenna and metal rail, have you had any issues?

    I bought this same Prinsu (Brand) for my 2017. It was disappointing the crossbars blow and flex terribly (Tundra is wider then Tacoma) with 2 35lb aluminum trek bikes. So much so that they touch the roof of the tundra. Contacted Prinsu there was nothing they could do. Didnt seem to be very interested in remedying the situation. I was able to turn two of the cross beams in their side (narrow side) which made them stiffer. Helps some. But way over priced. The cross beams are common stock sold for many applications only the sides and wind shield are Prinsu specific
