Benedikt Epplesheim in Germany hand makes monster contrabass and subcontrabass saxophones, as well as the ultra high soprillo sax and contrabassoons. In Brazil, J'Elle Steiner also make contrabass and subcontrabass saxes. So there is clearly some demand for these monster instruments but they are very, very expensive.
@@miked1190 I am currently using one and it weighs 15lbs and it's a really good model, and used a pro tenor that was around 8-10lbs, I've never seen a bari that wighs over 20lbs. A bass weighs around 30lbs
@@miked1190 That's with the case, the cases are pretty heavy. Every instrument I've used the cases weigh about the same, if not more than, the instruments. Those Yamaha cases are pretty heavy, I should know because I've used Yamahas.
I believe this is a SUB contrabass sax in Bb...very rare. Equally rare are the reeds you need to play this monster. They can be found in the lumber department at either Home Depot or Lowe's.
No, I think this really is *just* a contrabass in Eb. The bottom note he plays is a concert Db1, which is the bottom note on an Eb contra with range down to written Bb.
@@organist1982 well, actually, if you look closely enough, you'll see a contrabass sax resting apparently on its stand just as this performer is entering from the left... the sax we see on its stand thusly is not a bass sax since the upper bend is clearly above head height... in addition, this sax, although it is huge, can still be played freely to the performers side with a neck strap... not so with the beast that thus performer is playing on, making this a subcontrabass saxophone....
That one to me just looks like a regular bass sax sitting on a stand. You can tell when he carries in the contra over his head that it's a larger horn than the one sitting on the stand. Plus if you look at the tubing that leads to the neck and mouth piece going down the left side of the horn, that tubing is definitely longer on the contra that he's carrying in
That sax is so big that if you play a new release, it will be public domain by the time it reaches the bell!
💀
This is a really impressive performance on an impressive extremely rare instrument. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!
After this video: contrabass sax sales skyrocketed...and copper and zinc futures went into orbit😂
Nah, I'm not sure that many people have 30k to spend :/
Beautiful instrument, beautifully played. Also, an impressive piece of plumbing!
The timber is perfect and actually usable. Unless most sub contras that only sound like rumbling farts.
Especially considering that's one of the original Contrabasses, that sounds really good.
Great for advertising the Airbus A380!
Seeing instruments like this being used even somewhat practically is amazing to me.
Super well played, I've never heard anyone resonate the bottom note like that on a contra!
Definitely takes really good embouchure and breath support to do that on a contra
I would 🎷like to have one for my pipelinesession!🎷
Normally I don't like portrait format videos, but in this case, it's entirely appropriate.
Charlie Parker had to have that thing before he left us! 😅😅😅❤❤❤

Super !
great thank You from Budapest
Very good 👏👏👏.
Lol ONLY weighing 35 lbs I thought a Bari sax was heavy enough
@@miked1190 No, current pro baris weigh around 15lbs

La entrada más épica que e visto 💕✨
I've met him
Luckyyyyy
Soooo jelly!
who is the performer?
@@nolanvallier8614 he has requested anonymity due to his corny joke routine and inability to obtain rental housing.
I'd like to see it in the World Famous Tower of Power Horn Section,on the tune Squib Cakes,a instrumental,Featuring Dr.Steve Kupka's Bari Scoops.

Yes this is an orginal contabass, it was a subcontrabass it would be that tall without the stand, also they're even lower than this as well.

So different... i had never seen this before

..there is one in Leipzig's "Grassi-Museum"...😇🤩
wowww
NO WAY HE HAS A CONNOSAX
I want to own one because they are super low and I like the sound but daaaaaaang are they expensive
How much did you find it for?
@@noahfigley1064 I googled it and Eppelsheim sells them for about 25-30 thousand dollars
😯
They are SO EXPENSIVE and weigh a crap ton
Now. The real question is: where can I buy one, followed by how can I instantly make 40 grand?
Is rhe range down to low concert Db? Its just a bari an octave down rjght?
Hiw many trees were cut down to make a reed?
As for speaking, I see that you know how to talk about him, but as for singing, do you know how to sing to him?
Hes funny

Made in Paris, France. There's another Paris worth mentioning then?
maybe somewhere in the american wasteland they made a "city" called "Paris"?

The bass sax is big...but this...IS CREEPY
Klingt schlecht.
How about close miking and a full-screen video? This is poor.
