I am sure. Every OS engine should run well out of the box. So there must have been something wrong. I bet you got at least 11k on that 12x6 prop. This engine really needs bigger props than the FS52Surpass. I would swap the carb to have the needle on the other side for mor convenient operation.
I had one of theese engines, only ran full sinthetic side mount with no issue, after break in the engine rewarded me with more power than expected from this size engine, on the other hand a friend had the same engine mounted un the same plane i had but he always use with castor added fuel, after 5 or so gallons that become a messy leaking engine through every joint and front bearing, after good disassembly- cleaning (the the PCV style orifice vent was cloged with gum) he changed to full sinth after that without any problems. Ugly engine but worked great for us.
Castor is the reason why I added a vent nipple on my engine. I use castor fuel and without adding extra conservation oil the engine will gum up and if that Tiny vent hole is clogged with castor the engine will leak everywhere. I am not a fan of synth fuels but they usually work better on 4-strokes. After some castor runtimethe exhaust port and the piston/head need to be cleaned.
Thanks for the update on this engine, I’m very interested to see your results after you add a vent to the CC, Windage control in a FS engine is very important to how the engine performs. Approached 10k on a 12x6, has potential. Thx David.
I have an opportunity of buying one of these engines brand new. All I've ever had over 35 years of flying are Saitos which I love. Never had one of these. Would you recommend it? Would it have enough power for a 40 size plane? Would be glad of your opinion. Thanks.
Mine ran better after 6 sixteen ounce tanks. It is a hauler on high pitch props. I used a 12X8 and the work mate wanted to tip over slightly. On diesel mix I used a 14" prop and it ran good.
This engine is just very cool looking, and the adjustment controls are far away from the propeller, not like some engines I've watched you test where your fingers are a mm away from being sliced & diced. :-(
Well unfortunately I do not design these engines. If one is afraid of tuning with a needle in close proximity to your fingers, then maybe running glow engines ins't for you.
Trust me on this, the second run is MUCH better!
I trust you on all things glow related Dave. Heckuva save there at the 3:30 mark.

I am not trying to absolute peak this engine on only the FIRST run. Just stayed tuned for the next videos as yet not published.

I am going to put an OS FS 56a like this on a Buzzard Bombshell old-timer (3CH with difedral and no ailerons) Too much motor? Anyone?
can i know the price of it??
