  • We all know what it’s like: you go into ikea for a washing up brush and end up coming through the checkout with a bathroom suite and several futons.
Well, I can personally recommend the tumblers they sell as they make a great noise!
    Cue GarageBand for iOS sampler...
Here, using my iPhone, I put together a drum kit using the glass, and also some pitched sounds. A sampler, which is an extremely welcome feature of GarageBand for iOS, makes the possibilities truly infinite...

As imaginative as ever! Thank you Dan. This led me to thinking about and comparing the pioneering but tedious work of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop of the 1950s (and others), and wondering about music production another 60 years into the future. Any soothsayers?

Totally. My degree was electronic engineering and electronic music. We used three Revox open reel machines and a load of FX to get our noises!

Our imagination is about our only limitation!
    Excellent presentation and tutorial Dan,
I must say, for me, the sampler is one of the most used tools on GB , especially here lately!
    Cheers ✌🏻

I wish apple would add an MPC style sampler workflow…

Yeah, though this is a free app!

@@DanBakerMusic A free app to drive sales to Apple Devices made by a 3 Trillion dollar company. I'm sure it's in the budget to add a feature that most other apps already have. But I do agree GarageBand is already amazing app. Maybe Apple will port a Logic Pro X version to iPad. Lets hope!

Dan, So creative, giving me ideas…💡I have a techie question, not related but still musical. You mentioned in one of your videos a program/app that allows you to play your song on your keyboard then prints out the sheet music. It would also be a great function to sing a part that will also be added to the score. Do you know of any such cool tool? Thanks for these great tutorials.(Dawn)🎵🎹🎵

Hi Dawn: I’m not sure of anything that will convert audio files into music notation (but I’m sure there are such things!), but anything recorded from a MIDI keyboard is relatively easy to find. I have Musescore, which is free, but I also use Sibelius on an older computer.
