    My Father worked at White Motors for 41 years from just before he entered the Navy in WWII until his retirement when the company went into bankruptcy. He graduated for Case School of Engneering and became one to two engine designers under the chief engineer. He ran the engine test lab at E. 79th St and St Claire Ave in Cleveland and was involved in many field trials.
    Seeing these trucks brings back many memories. I once had a sales model of a Model 3000 Tractor Trailer that is long gone.
    I believe White Motors went out of business after the management was taken over by a former GM group that did not understand how to run a smaller company. They expected perks and compensations that were not sustainable.

    All those carriers, gone by acquisition and deregulation. The good days of trucking are gone. I'm glad I experienced some of it.

    They sure don’t make them like that anymore...many had good style. 😎They lacked in power, but they got the job done. 🧐Miss the cabovers!😍

    A lot of old iron !!! White was a big player in trucking back then.They had their own trucks and bought out Autocar Trucks, Diamond T, Reo, and the old Sterling Truck Co. White also signed a 25 yr. contract with the Freightliner Corp. to sell and service their trucks, hence the White-Freightliner name. White bought out many companies such as Superior Diesel, Euclid dump trucks from G.M. and Alco diesel from the defunct Alco locomotive co. Many divisions were sold off to other companies, like Euclid to Damiler-Benz at that time, Alco to a British co., Diamond-Reo which had been merged together, to a southern businessman F.L. Capehart. The 25 year contract was up and Freightliner management sold out to Damiler-Benz. White had been in the red on the books along time ago,was brought back , but with old infrastructure couldn't make it and filed for bankruptcy. Volvo then took over and G.M. got out of the heavy truck business forming a partnership w/Volvo called Volvo-GM.

      Yup and CAT stopped making diesel road engines because of regulations. Too many computers killed a great engine.

      @@modeladenny1218 I can’t see what the difference is between a cat diesel in a truck or s piece of heavy equipment exhaust is exhaust. The frigging epa screwed everything up

    Some of these trucks demonstrate why regulations and safety inspections are necessary. All of the cabovers are a demonstration of over regulation!

    WTF? Del Reeves, CW McCall, Jerry Reed , or none of those real truck music guys weren't available for the music? I have to admit, I saw and drove many of those rigs. But my radio only played country.

Sorry that I never took pics. !st pics I started taking was around 1984, when I was hauling concrete pipe & manholes structures.. By then most of them old trucks were gone.

      Drove from 1969-1994. Forced to retire when nonunion school boys worked cheaper. Watched a lot of big name companies bite the dirt.
      Spent over a year in training in a White half cab shuttling trailers. Only seemed like ten years before a real road run came up.

      Donald Bartram it really breaks my heart about Mack, I have a lot of seat time in the real ones. Hot in summer cold in winter and beat ya to death but wouldn’t quit running.

      Donald Bartram;
      Mack & Volvo are working together now, Volvo has a new factory here in the U. S.
      Not what any trucker wanted, but at least it wasn’t Freightliner & Toyota right?!

      This new breed of steering wheel holder loves Volvos and automatics anything to make it easier to wear flip flops and sweatpants!!! Glad I retired! Had a young rookie steering wheel holder say CBs are for old people, they aren't needed anymore. That's when I knew it was over for me!!!
