My father drive for Carolina Freight for 10 years until he retired in Oct1994. May he Rest In Peace I remember me and him drove to Cherryville, NC to visit the Carolina Freight truck museum I seen these trucks in museum.
We’ll never see these days again, Jimmy Hoffa and the TEAMSTERS sure made sure we had good lives, that’s all I think about when watching these videos, the great life we had.
Preston, Carolina, Interstate, St. Johnsbury, Overnite just a few of the many companies I remember when I was a young driver in the 80s and 90s I've been driving 36 years now, I'm a 3rd generation driver with two sons who also are drivers. I used to enjoy driving. I'm looking forward to retirement in 4 years I hate what trucking has become. I'll always treasure the camaraderie and the memories (good and bad).

I started driving for Carolina Freight in 1975 when they open the terminal up in Carlisle Pennsylvania and drove for them till they shut down and were taking over by ABF. Carolina was a great company to work for. Then I drove four A B F till I retired.
This takes me back. My dad retired outta Carolina freight before ABF bought them out. He used to me to with him sometimes driving during summer break from school, good times.

Back when all fleets looked good. It all went to crap when Mercedes Benz bought freightliner and Detroit diesel and started putting European Inspired semis over here in the states. Hear stores from my dad and uncle who used to drive trucks in the glory days. They gave it up to raise families.
I worked for Carolina from 1971 in Raleigh and then Rocky Mount, North Carolina until moving to Washington State in 1988. A great company it was and great people to work with. I still see a few of the 27 foot trailers on the road here in Carolina. Bill Garner Rocky Mount, N.C.
I'm from Cherryville and My Father was over the maintenance Department the East coast from out of the Rocky Mount terminal. My brothers also worked for Carolina in Cherryville and Baltimore for years, Sad it all came to an end.

I work for ABF and started long after they bought out Carolina. We still have one of the old Carolina trailers sitting out back. I keep thinking that it would be cool to pull it down the road sometime.

I've worked on each one in this video, whether it be and engine swap, transmission swap etc or just routine maintenance like a pm. The red trucks were Carolina owned. The white Internationals were leased units and mechanics from the dealership came over to our shop and preformed the work.
I worked in the Carlstad NJ terminal in the late 80's - boy what a dump it was. My territory was Paterson, Passaic and the dumpy towns in between. Those were some wild days. Real Sopranos with Tony Pro visiting and management boarding up the place - the were always good to us - but the non union companies began to take business and the union never recouped but they were also corrupt and never understood deregulation - company went south real quick but they were decent folks
I dove for Roadway out of Nanuet New York in the late seventies art time I had to pay union dues a personal check made out to Josephine provonza Tony pro daughter local 560
A single axle tractor with triples, wow, that's crazy, I remember Carolina opening up a new terminal in Philly years ago, than Mayor Rendell touting the new terminal, which, did not last long, I drove LTL for NEMF for 11 years, made good $, working 12 to 14 hours a week, a tough job though, RIP Carolina, Jevic, New Century, CF, American Freightways, St.Johnsbury, PIE , on and on it goes. So many more..

My brother in law worked for Caroline. I worked with them too shaping out of the Union hall. I then made the list at Preston Trucking also a great Company to work for. Eventually they were bought by Yellow and a short Tim later the door's were closed. But Preston and Carolina two Great Companies.
Oh yes I only remember their Grand Island, NY Buffalo terminal before the ABF taker. I was mostly Greater Toronto and southern Ontario driver. Those were the good old days of the big unionized LTLs. The length laws must have been more restrictive even for doubles, as they ran many Ford L9000s, International S2200s, some short nose White Road bosses and Freightliner cabovers and even Ford WT9000 cabovers. But the length laws must have become more liberal in the ‘90s as they ran single axle International 8300s and 9400s.

There was a term. in Milford Ct.. I always liked the color scheme when I was a kid.. They had a lot of B models & Whites back then. Now it's a stone supply co.
There was the Carolina Term. a CF term, next to them & a IH dealer next door also. Now it's all Ct. Stone Supply. still using the old terminal buildings though.
They had a big terminal in Milford Ct. across from the truck stop & next to CF terminal.. Near my house.. Back then Milford, Orange & West Haven Ct. on rte 1,, was 1/2 way between NYC & Boston.. there were over 25 Union freight carriers along that 6 mi. stretch of road.. Now it's all big box stores & a couple non-union outfits.. SAD
I remember their yard,, a big loading facility & 4 bay repair garage.. Mostly B & F model Macks.. Then the started using Whites & Fords,, Don't know why they didn't use the U or R model Macks.

@B0b Williams I remember that nickname LOL I liked those Whites 7000 series I believe. I always liked the look of COE's without sleepers, but tight fit in the cab for big guys. I worked for a moving Co.we had a REO COE no sleeper it was an oddball they only made for a couple years, Fiberglass & aluminum Cab.

I went to Secondi''s Truck stop mostly, The co. I worked for had an account there, I u8se to go to 76 out in Branford a lot, they had some hot waitresses there. LOL Good old days now you don't ave time to stop for coffee, & the truck stops suck . Fast food restaurants .I'm glad I got to work when jobs were good, now just all corp. BS, Thye co. I retired from went from a family business with like 200 drivers, but you knew the boss & the VP, it was personal. It's still a family owned business but with 800 drivers , all computerized, it just seemed to go downhill no one cared in the office. I just retired one day, Had enough of it,

If you do your history non union trucking companies came in and cut the rates making trucking the shitty industry it is now. The only companies worth a damn right now are union, if you look at UPS Feeder .83cpm UPS Freight.72cpm Down to YRC and ABF not the best paying LTL companies but get paid for everything they do.
We were Teamsters out of 701 in Princeton, NJ when I drove for Carolina. The Union had nothing to do with them going out. ABF bought them out. Nothing new. Look at Preston Motor Freight, Consolidated Freightway, Yellow Freight...the list goes on and on. Sad!!

The unions got greedy and became just another political body between the workers and their paycheck.
