This was all filmed and photographed on U.S. hwy 99 between piru canyon (which is under Pyramid lake since '65 after completion of I-5 ) and Castaic Ca. . Shots of the old 99 Oaks truck stop and cafe in the background from .54 to 1:31 . When I was 11 ('61) and riding in a '53 Kenworth semi from Bellflower to Frisco and back we stopped there . I was over that route on the truck and with my folks MANY times from '52 till it was bypassed by I-5 in '65 .

Just like my father, spent many hours in his SAR with Detroit, S2 with 903, S 20 Foden, Commer knockers, Atkinson’s, Diamond Reo, and White Road boss, his last truck was a Ant eater Kenworth. I had a very good childhood.

5:10: One of the old dual-steer PIE dromedaries they used to run from LA to Denver. My Godfather used to drive these over the Rockies from the Denver terminal, and he'd rendezvous with a California driver somewhere in Utah, switch trucks, and head back to Denver. From there, freight was unloaded from the drom-box, and freight heading east was carried by single trailers pulled by a long-nosed White day-cab. It took 3 Whites to pull the freight from 2 of these dual-steer KW's....

Yes, Waltzing Matilda was a spectacle, lots of heat, lots of noise, and a nice paint job but not a drag truck. The real competition here starts at 2.40 where the Detroit Devil absolutely blows away the Super Boss. To say Ty was pissed off is an understatement. He couldn't believe a small crew from South Australia with a budget of around 100KAUD ( a shit load of money back then ) could beat his 1M + USD team. I must say though he put on a hell of a show with Super Boss and the Calder crowd was stoked. Sent him home with his tail between his legs to deal with the US media. That was a laugh!

I wish Mack still made the F-model but with today’s high horse power engines and air ride cabs. I drove 2 different ones n the late 70’s and early 80’s and even with “Armstrong “ steering you could get into 99.9% of the tight docks

Of all the immeasurable amount of relative music regarding trucks wheels, rolling down a highway we tc where did you get the brainstorm to use this innocuous little ditty, and relevant to a machine with wheels, motor, and gears? This isn't a strummers parade! Stupid ! Without foresight, or insight!

If you don't have this truck anymore I reckon I might know where it is. I've even sat in it and has a 6V71 in it IIRC. Same colour too. Can't remember your name on the side though. Also it's under cover, dry and completely untouched since the day it was parked there which I assume was decades ago. It's still in Victoria.

My Father worked at White Motors for 41 years from just before he entered the Navy in WWII until his retirement when the company went into bankruptcy. He graduated for Case School of Engneering and became one to two engine designers under the chief engineer. He ran the engine test lab at E. 79th St and St Claire Ave in Cleveland and was involved in many field trials. Seeing these trucks brings back many memories. I once had a sales model of a Model 3000 Tractor Trailer that is long gone. I believe White Motors went out of business after the management was taken over by a former GM group that did not understand how to run a smaller company. They expected perks and compensations that were not sustainable.

The SAR kenworth one the best looking and a model the Yanks didn't get even though they had front of bumper to rear of cab rules, they did the COE until rules changed, Australia turned the SAR into a classic, were quite popular for roadtrains as allowed a slightly longer draw bar for dog trailer stability and still fitting into overall length regulations, yes they tended to have a bit better airflow under cab improving engine and trans cooling too

At my job we rebuild mtu and detroit engines. Right now I'm working with a veteran mechanic (he's been there since 1974) on a 6v92. They're so much fun to work on. I hope I get to do more in the future
