Dr P, I am a physician, thanks for providing us information that we never learned in Med school. These talks should really be mandatory education for students in their first two years of school.
I used to take care of a lady who was 99 and high functioning cognitively I asked her what is your secret? and she said an egg a day... its the beginning of life.
This is information that I research in 2010 when my daughter suffered a traumatic brain injury. And I saw what they were giving her through her feeding tube in the hospital and I thought there’s no way she was going to be able to heal her brain and all that Processed sugar and oil. As soon as I started feeding her brain healthy food blenderized into her feeding tube it was like a miracle she began to improve cognitively and stopped getting infections out. There wasn’t a lot of information like this out in 2010 when I wrote my book Better Brain Healing, nutritional and spiritual healing for the brain to help save my daughter.
What I find most interesting is that there are people that have absolutely no interest in trying things to improve their health span. I am so happy I watched this! I never used mouthwash until about 6 months ago when my dentist recommended it to slow or eliminate the development of cavities. I felt uneasy about using it and now know that I should have trusted my intuition.
The older I get, 67 the more I use it. I take a small bottle with me in my purse. I floss too but the wash refreshes my mouth during the day and cleans it.
I used mouthwash only when I’m scheduled to meet other people. And I floss only for the three weeks before each appointment with the dental hygienist.😮. Would that system work for you? 🤔
Dr. Perlmutter n Max. Thank you for the inspiring presentation. Really enjoyed it. I learned alot. I did want to comment abt the salt. Years ago I went on a high protein, low carb diet. Given to me by my personal trainer. Went from a size 12 to a size 2-4. He told me I would get used to food w/o salt. In a short time I did. With that, When I ate meat or celery, etc, I was able to 'taste' the natural salt in these foods. If I had a salad, I would dress it with extra virgin olive oil. All turned out well. Cpl months bak, had a heart check-up. Heart was fine. Nontheless, the nurse said to me, "watch the salt." Today, I still don't add salt. @ restaurants, I order my steak without salt. And for me, it's delicious. I'm 78. 🙏😊
I think the world needs to grow their own garden. Even the vegetables you buy from the shop have little nutrition. I was diagnosed with Type 2 and panicked. I watch carbs as well as sugar in food I buy. I lost 20 kilos (44lbs) and although I'm at risk, I'm no longer in the pre-diabetic category. I still have to lose 20 more kilos to be back where I once was as a 30 something young adult. And I'm trying to learn how to grow nutritious, organic food. There is so much on the internet to help you.
I saw a dr Howard Mandel describing how cooking rice, pasta or bread and then putting it to chill in the fridge makes the starch resistant to our gut enzymes and cooking or toasting it again before you eat will increase this effect which leaves it free to be digested by your gut bacteria which turn it into fatty acid chains keeping them happy. The best advice though was a doctor who had the best meal for cleaning your arteries... No Meal! He reckoned water fasting was the best way to give your circulatory system a rest and activate the cleaning protocol our stoneage relatives relied upon when short of food - breaking out the fat stores, clearing up dead and damaged cells and stimulating stem cell production to heal any wounds or damage! Made my day to hear him say what the wild animals have known all along - if you're sick take yourself off and chill that's why some animals hibernate and come out brand new and ready for break-fast!
What a great discussion and great guest! Love incorporating your knowledge into my daily life..thank you so much for getting this valuable information out to us!
Thank you for an excellent discussion, and a reminder to those of us who have pretty decent diets that mindfulness contributes to getting the best from our foods (no more dinners in front of the news!).
This was excellent! I've been on my nutrition journey for nearly a decade now and there was some new info I was Grateful to hear!! PLEASE, one cautionary note I wish had been brought up with the salt discussion: regular, iodized table salt is the bad guy! Yes, undemonizing salt is a good step, but let's tell people the good kind of salt to use. CELTIC sea salt, REAL salt, Hymalayn salt are all good choices. I wish I could remember the downsides of regular table salt, but for a good discussion about that, look up Barbara O'Neil, with table salt in the search, to get her presentation.. She explains it well. Thank you for a GREAT, informative discussion!!!
I Enjoy the kindness & straight-forward caring which Dr. Perl mutter shares in every interview…I Respect him tremendously!! Thank You for sharing so selflessly💫🌟🙏
I wish I learnt this in nursing school! Well 30 years after, through life experiences...I am now a holistic nurse. Such great information...needed in both nursing and medical schools. I don't like so much pills for treating Alzhemiers, versus diet, nutrition, sleep, social, exercise and spiritual/Mental support!
I finally broke down and bought a bottle of mouthwash recently at the dollar store - looks and smells just like that well known brand and I’m not giving it up!! Why, it is very necessary to calm down the itching when bitten by Fire Ants in the south!!! So it goes on my foot, the only place for mouthwash.
My great grandmother made everything she ate from scratch, grew many vegetables and had her own chickens. She was very active living in the countryside. And she got terrible Alzheimers...

She did everything “right” but wound up with a form of dementia called progressive supranuclear palsy. I had a $25.00 Scotch Fillet today. I don't usually spend that kind of money on meat but oh, it was lovely. As a pensioner, this was something that really was a (one of) and I appreciated every tiny bite. I'm a carnivore but never buy food that pricey.
Max, I love what you're doing! It fact it's changed how I live. My mom was diagnosed with onset dementia. Something you said...dementia starts 20 yrs before its diagnosed ! I feel it must be happening to me! I'm not the 30yr old I once was! I'm now 56. Just one question. Sodium is not salt. Salt is a component of Sodium. 99 percent of Salt sold or in food has been stripped of nutrients that the body needs to use ....Sodium. Without those nutrients Sodium becomes toxic! Please look into the research. My moms doctor, she's a peach, but she's adamant about her recommending certain health applications. I'm just a warehouse dude. I'm ignored. But you are changing even professional doctors. Please look into Salt vs sodium!
Dr. Perlmutter and Mr. Lugavere thank so much of all you input I am student of mental health where we have internal influence and external. Food science appeared to be embrace both. Thanks again
My Dad passed away with Alzheimers. He was highly intelligent and functional with few hints of what was to be diagnosed 7 years later, now obvious. 3 of the 6 siblings were diagnosed with Alzheimers or Dementia. How can it affect 3 of the 6 siblings have an issue with this mental disease? This information is so interesting. Thank you
Thank you for this advice. I respectfully suggest you read The China Study and understand the danger posed by eating alot of animal protein since cancer is so pervasive in the West. I recommend TH-cam reviews provided by Dr. Peter Rogers. I also think your comment that salt makes food palatable should be prefaced by saying if you have a risk of cardiovascular disease and/or obesity in your family, giving up salt may be alot easier for you as a risk mitigation factor. You might love your health more then your salt. Again you seem to be saying food is really about pleasure. Food and health is the topic and the key takeaway. Everyone is suffering because they eat for taste in the West. We dont need all this salt regardless of how it tastes. I really think meat and salt are quite toxic in the high quantities considered "healthy" in the West. Thank you both. Cheers
Staity varies from person to person. What enzymes are required to digest an egg which is a genetic material of a bird? Fruits have enzymes helps to digest starch, complex carbs and pulses etc.
Very complex information -thank you. I wish my GP would offer it to me in a compressed form. I would consider it as a caring, responsible way of working.
Pasture raised is the key. They should be eating all the bugs and weeds out in the sunshine. Even eggs that are called organic or free range can be raised indoors and crowded with no access to living nature.
There isn't much required that isn't in an egg, after all the chickens do well from it. The oldest lady in the world was a hundred and thirteen when she said all that she eats is an egg for breakfast and a biscuit for tea.
Interesting. In addition to mainly considering Himalayan Pink Salt why not take a natural IODINE sea salt ? Iodine is an essential nutrient and lack of it can cause too low thyroid function (hypothyroidism). Are you saying the Iodine supplement needs to be separate from the natural sea salt? Appreciate your input. Thanks
Amazing podcast on so many levels!! Do you have a link to the study on predicting Alzheimers based on stomach size please? ❤️ Thank you for everything you both do!!! 💞🙌🏼
I am really enjoying this video. I agree with the idea of buying whole plant-based food. I don't eat any red meat, but I do eat chicken, fish, and dairy in moderation. I really agree too, with Max's reference to dark leafy greens and avocadoes. Personally, I have been studying nutrition on my own for about 20 to 25 years, and I learned quite a bit. I will most definitely purchase the books you both wrote. Thank you!
I only disagree with the guest's statement that cruciferous vegetables need salt to be palatable. I eat cruciferous vegetables every day as a large proportion of my diet. I eat them raw in cruciferous salads, flavored with olive oil and apple cider vinegar with various peppers to taste, and I feel no loss that cries out for salt flavor. Same for sautéed in olive oil. I do appreciate learning that people consuming less carbs tend to need more salt rather than less, so I feel less guilty about how generously I salt my eggs and meats. I enjoyed this episode and look forward to reading the book!
Fascinating and complements what i have been learning recently e.g. impact of mouth biome on everything else. Towards the end he said distractionsnwhile eating lead to a 15% reduction in ?? I couldnt hear the word because the interviewer talked over him agreeing with him. I tried listening repeatedly to no avail. Thanks Eleanor (UK)
Yes Max, Indeed..."way to go!" Book looks good, just got my library copy today 😊 looking forward to getting into it. Thankyou both for this excellent segment xx
My dad had Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia. He was my best friend. My brother in law used him along with my sisters to destroy my life and my daughters, and used him for their greed.
Thank You, very informative. I have wondered about thoothpaste and artificial sun tans, -sugar...what might that do to our bodies? Since mouthwash is increasing the risk of dementia , type 2 diabetes.
I’d like to see a discussion between you and dr Esselstyne representing vegan whole food plant based diet. Giving up beef and other meat products got me off statins and other drugs. You all agree on eliminating processed foods. Once you stop salt you don’t want it.
Yup, Perlmutter is right, we must be careful about salt consumption. I read a report saying salt messes up our gut microbiome, like sugar, but of course, in different ways.
Want to understand nutrition and its impact on overall health? Look for Sten Ekberg's brilliant TH-cam videos. I'm retired physician and his free presentations blew me away and changed my nutrition forever! He's miles ahead of these well meaning fellas.
What about traumatic brain injury? How many people who played sports like football and gymnastics? Falling and hitting head from bicycle and car accidents? Seems not many people want to talk about the accidents that people have had head injuries from.
It's sliced, it's seasoned, it's dried. I don't think that qualifies as highly processed. What you read was probably sponsored by Big Food or a vegan group. Some people have problems with reactions to specific seasonings, or high carb content from added sugar in the seasoning blends. Beef jerky is a fairly healthy choice, especially when compared to loaf bread or Lucky Charms.
TY DR. Perlmutter. Perrier Sparkling Water is the only water Ive found with no sodium on the ingredient list, most have 10mg. Any confirmation on this? TY
I tend to agree on both of your recommendations on eggs consumption. I wonder what would Dr. Gundry’s comments on that. Nevertheless, 1-2 organic pasteuraised eggs is included in my diet 2x-3x a week. Thanks for the video. Love it! 🙏♥️
Mum suffered terribly for 10 years with frontal lobe dementia and alzheimers and died Dec 2022. She experienced very rapid onset in her early 60s and in the preceding years ate an enormous amount of low fat yoghurt. Everthing else in her diet was healthy. Impact of artificial sweeteners? She would have been an ideal candidate for a research study. We contacted several bodies here in Australia and none were interested.
Dr P, I am a physician, thanks for providing us information that we never learned in Med school. These talks should really be mandatory education for students in their first two years of school.
Completely agree, med education in this field is absolutely necessary!
Pharma will never let that happen
Big Pharma really doesn't want docs to push good nutrition as a way for us to be much healthier than the general population here in the USA!

Indeed, some of us don't want to change for better. These are profoundly toxic people. Keep away from those.
For some, they’d just rather pop a tablet than bother addressing the root cause of the problem 🙄
I find that unless one is extremely sick, they will keep on doing the same behaviors.
People are often overwhelmed by their lives, especially when their bodies are out of balance already.

I am privileged to hear that the much needed knowledge of food as medicine and preventative care is finally being understood and used in functional medicine. You and your kindred spirits are healing a hurting system. I love you and thank you again🙏⚛️💝🌹

@@MacSwan
You might as well just chew fresh peppermint or lemongrass leaves
I used mouthwash only when I’m scheduled to meet other people. And I floss only for the three weeks before each appointment with the dental hygienist.😮. Would that system work for you? 🤔

Kickboxing is the best for everything.
Use coconut oil for a mouthwash. 1 tablespoon and swish it around in your mouth for a minute or two. Look it up!
So enjoyed this interview with Max. Dr P you are a great listener & interviewer. Thank you
Thanks for watching, and for those nice comments
Ty❤❤
Good on you for trusting what medical practitioners say. I hope that whatever salt you DO still use is of high quality.😊
The world is finally getting caught up to Dr. Andrew Weil and Dr. Gerson, THANK GOD!!
🎉keep up the good work!!❤
I saw a dr Howard Mandel describing how cooking rice, pasta or bread and then putting it to chill in the fridge makes the starch resistant to our gut enzymes and cooking or toasting it again before you eat will increase this effect which leaves it free to be digested by your gut bacteria which turn it into fatty acid chains keeping them happy.
I had three egg omelet this morning with yellow squash, zucchini, red pepper, and cheese. This is quite often my morning meal.
Thank you for this interview! Mom was just diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I am ALL IN on getting her back! Ordered your book! Thank you!
Excellent, love the information Max & Dr Perlmutter share with us ♥️
So encouraging to listen to well-spoken experts!
!!! Incredibly brilliant and incredibly helpful video.
There are not words to describe how important this video is and how helpful it is!!!
Salt quality truly matters!
I Enjoy the kindness & straight-forward caring which Dr. Perl
mutter shares in every interview…I Respect him tremendously!!
Really? Hell, I've been heating spoons in boiled water and pressing the spoon on the bites.
This is brilliant info. Perfect way to educate myself during a long 10hr drive. Thanks so much. Greetings from Australia. 🎉
My great grandmother made everything she ate from scratch, grew many vegetables and had her own chickens. She was very active living in the countryside. And she got terrible Alzheimers...

Is there a good Alzheimer's?
Poor thing.😢. I wonder how isolated she may have been socially…? 🤔
@@1timbarrett my mother was physically active since childhood, ate well (healthily) & was socially active. She did everything “right” but wound up with a form of dementia called progressive supranuclear palsy. I am a fan of Max , his books and podcast 🙏🏻❤️🩹✨
Makes two of us!
Salt is a molecule that breaks down to Na & Cl. Both are doing their roles as they are absorbed by the organs. Na will hold the water in the kidneys.
Dr. Perlmutter and Mr. Lugavere thank so much of all you input I am student of mental health where we have internal influence and external. Food science appeared to be embrace both. Thanks again
What amazing information....on so many levels! Thank you! (One negative comment: Why ask him a question if you're just going to answer it?)
Thank you
Wonderful insights! So grateful that you presented information that I typically would not have time to extract!

MAX Lugavere.. So nice to know U, my friend!!
Cheers
Great episode of this show. It is full of important information we all need on the subject of food.
Super great informatiin. Thank you Max n Dr.Perlmutter. ❤🙏
I probably missed the answer, but would you mind telling me what chickens should be eating - the chickens from whom we get our eggs?
Pasture raised is the key. They should be eating all the bugs and weeds out in the sunshine. Even eggs that are called organic or free range can be raised indoors and crowded with no access to living nature.
Dr. Perlmutter is right about egg yolks as being good for you, specifically owing to choline. I learned the same thing as well.
There isn't much required that isn't in an egg, after all the chickens do well from it. The oldest lady in the world was a hundred and thirteen when she said all that she eats is an egg for breakfast and a biscuit for tea.
Great information and very sad to know about mouthwash. Though I have stopped long time ago.
Make sure the salt is Himalayan Pink Salt or other natural, real salt that's not iodized and then take a separate iodine supplement if you need it.
Interesting.
In addition to mainly considering Himalayan Pink Salt
why not take a natural IODINE sea salt ? Iodine is an essential nutrient and lack of it can cause too low thyroid function (hypothyroidism). Are you saying the Iodine supplement needs to be separate from the natural sea salt?
Appreciate your input. Thanks
Celtic Grey is another powerhouse for synergy and absorption
May i ask, why?
Amazing podcast on so many levels!!
Do you have a link to the study on predicting Alzheimers based on stomach size please? ❤️
Thank you for everything you both do!!! 💞🙌🏼
I appreciate this valuable information. Thank you,
Still not convinced our gut health depends on ingesting fiber, but I’ll stay tuned! Tx for this podcast! 🙏
Fiber is probiotic for the gut and helps do clean up as well as slow down the food for absorption...
Thank you!
Eggs have choline and inositol which is good for Alzheimers. Eggs also have lecithin which utilizes the cholesterol
Basaltic vinegar on vegetables 👍🏻

Thank You, very informative.
I have wondered about thoothpaste and artificial sun tans, -sugar...what might that do to our bodies?
Since mouthwash is increasing the risk of dementia , type 2 diabetes.
I’d like to see a discussion between you and dr Esselstyne representing vegan whole food plant based diet. Giving up beef and other meat products got me off statins and other drugs.
You all agree on eliminating processed foods.
Once you stop salt you don’t want it.
I personally find that once you re-start use of quality salt, you crave fewer processed food-like products.😮
Yes the same with using celtic salt
Spectacular presentation!
Yup, Perlmutter is right, we must be careful about salt consumption. I read a report saying salt messes up our gut microbiome, like sugar, but of course, in different ways.
I'm big fan of yours thanks for your dedication to health and science

Will hydrogen peroxide and baking soda kill good bacteria and inhibit nitric oxide production? What is appropriate to use?
I read somewhere to avoid meat jerky including beef jerky because they are highly process.
