    Fantastic video, couldn't ask for much more without seeing it in person.
    I will be ordering one of these today. Every time you talked about downgrading armor or removing protection, I cringed. I hit a deer last month and I'm still recuperating. 😮 I had the pants they go along with this jacket, and they saved me from much worse injuries. I had upgraded the hip armor and that's exactly where I had impacts.
    Ride safe out there!

      We have a massive deer problem in my area, so I know what you faced. It's funny, your mention of hip armor resonates with me because I think that is probably more important than knee armor. Anyway, this jacket in the review I have now taken on three cross-country trips, each totaling 6000 or more miles. It has served me well and is still going strong. I did find the fit a little too roomy in the belly area, so I stitched up the sides to take up some extra fabric. Other than that, I've had no issues.

    Fantastic review. I just purchased this jacket 10 minutes ago based on your review and the comments above. Your follow up comments were particularly persuasive as well. Knowing that you put so many miles on the jacket inspires confidence in it's durability. Thanks!

      I'll be wearing it on another trip in a month or so. I really can't complain about durability. The only downside I found was that the fit around the middle was a little generous for my size body.

    The loop is for attaching a tether. Thanks for the good review.

    PERFECT review. Thank you for this. Its such a refreshing change from the gimmicks that we endure in other reviews. Thank you again.

    Great review I had this jacket as well and for my safety stand for it it is fantastic. I have a low side at 70 miles an hour in the mountains the long slide jacket perform perfectly, was torn in several places, walked away with no scratches, and I will be buying another one.

    The plastic loop is most likely intended for a dead mans switch. While these are not very popular on most bikes anyone doing off road rally type racing may be required to have one.

    I bought this in tan and the pants. I agree there are some oddities, but for the price and features you get a lot. The pants also have ton of pockets and vents as well. All in all, a good almost great combo for less than $500...you cant really top that. Also, when I bought mine a few months ago there wasnt many reviews about them either. I did get my first ride in the jacket the other weekend on a 70 degree day and had all the vents open. I didnt get hot on my FJR, but can see it maybe being an issue on 85+ degree days...however, I rode with a Joe Rocket textile jacket the last two years that only had two large zipper vents in the front and did ok all summer. Anyway, this was a great review on a good jacket. Thanks!

      Yes, I had the same issue--there are no detailed videos or written reviews of the gear, even from retailers! I bought mine just hoping I wouldn't need to return it. I decided to have mine tailored to take in the sides for a trimmer fit, and I did order replacement armor for the elbows and back. It seems like it will be good overall, though. Nice to hear that heat isn't too much of a problem.

      @@tinderboxarts taking in the sides will be good and still under the price of other jackets. I also upgraded the back protector as well. Hopefully the coat and pants will last for a good long while. Tourmaster has been doing gear for a while so I think we are in good hands....guess time will tell. :-) I look forward to your long term review. Also, my zumo xt is coming tomorrow so I'm super excited about that as well.

      I used this jacket on a 5600 mile 14 day trip a few weeks ago and it performed really well under a wide variety of conditions. I think you'll be pleased.

    TourMaster is not new to market. However as we all know a product can be jammed packed with “value” on paper and fit like crap and be uncomfortable wearing it. The rubber meets the road with how does it feel wearing it and in use? Maybe next video.

      I originally got this jacket because I was taking a two week trip with my son, from New Jersey out to Idaho and back. It was an epic trip, and I wore this jacket for all but a couple of days. The high temp for the trip was 102F and the low was 41F in heavy rain. The jacket performed admirably and I took full advantage of the venting and the versatility. I did not take the inner liner with me because I wasn't expecting winter-like temps, but I did have a lightweight bicycle style jacket I wore under the Tourmaster when it got down to 41 in the rain. On the hottest days I started out with the Tourmaster but switched midday to a full mesh jacket I had with me. The Tourmaster was okay up even into the 90s if you are moving, but once into the high 90s and 100s we needed every chance to stay cool. It was brutal. We soaked our shirts with water and our mesh jackets allowed for evaporative cooling.
      Comfort was excellent. It is a heavier jacket, but I like that--it feels substantial, like an old friend giving you a hug! My only complaint is that it is a boxier American cut. So for thinner or for shorter riders there is probably going to be too much fabric in the midsection. I ended up sewing pleats in the sides myself to take up the extra fabric, and that worked pretty well. If you have a bit of a belly or you are a thicker torso, you won't need to do that. All in all this is a versatile jacket which is comfortable and functional in a wide latitude of riding conditions.

    Excellent review! Amazing. So you say this is a 3 season jacket. Fall, winter and spring I assume. It seems like with the ventilation it could go summer as well. But, there is a lot going on with this jacket and I need to take it in. I am looking for a 3 season jacket particularly a winter jacket since I live in CA. How do you like the jacket now. How do you think this compares to an Alpinestar Andes 3 jacket similar price point I think. Thanks

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, there will be some variability depending on the rider and the bike. If you have a full fairing you will be hotter at summer temps than if you are riding a naked bike, for example. I wore this jacket for a cross country trip with a low temp of 42 and a high temp of 102, and I was riding a BMW R1200RT with plenty of wind protection. I was comfortable with the use of the ventilation options and layering underneath until I got in the 90s. At highway speed I could wear the jacket into the low 90s, but around that time we would pull over and I switched to a full mesh jacket. The Andes 3 jacket you mention is also something I looked at, but this has a little more ventilation and the fit and availability just worked out better for me. For Cali, I would think this would be just fine for winter, autumn and early spring. For late spring and summer you might find it hot if you have a lot of wind protection on your bike.

    This jacket is amazing you are just picky my friend

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You misunderstand--I don't dislike the jacket at all. In fact, I wore it on my last cross country trip and I'll be wearing it on another trip this autumn. However, the point of reviews IS to nitpick and point out any flaws or room for improvement so that others can be sure of what they might be buying and maybe the manufacturer will make improvements going forward. We can't improve unless we recognize areas for improvement, right?

    Do those outside pockets have a zipper on the top? I like to carry my wallet in a zipped pocket or do you feel that the inside breast pocket is secure enough?

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The outside waist pockets are quite deep, with a heavy-duty velcro. I'd have no problem putting my wallet in there. The inside breast pocket is fairly deep with a smaller patch of velcro, but it would also be fine for your wallet as long as you don't have one of those monster wallets carrying everything but the kitchen sink.

      The little plastic loop on the lower left front I used to hook my keys when I get off the bike. I also feed a Velcro strap from one glove through to the other to keep track of them when I’m off the bike also.
