Good old Battersea, where I grew up! It's a very different place today though. In my day, a restaurant selling empanadas and chorizo there would have been unheard of! Behind you at the beginning of the video, you can see the house that one of my oldest friends still lives in, we've been friends since infant school (many years ago 🧓)!

Gosh!!!!!! that looked so lovely and incredible good pricing. That steak was a generous portion and You left with a smile on your face and given a good score. Santa Maria Del Sur gets the Gary seal of approval. Thankyou for another great video
The 3 courses looked spectacular Gary. The flavours and quality were outstanding. Fully deserved your rating, possibly a 9. Many thanks for sharing this treat with us, much appreciated. Until next time 👋👍👋👍👋
My friend lived opposite that place. It never really needed the Ramsay input tbh. For that part of town, it's very affordable and the quality is decent. What non-Londoners sometimes don't realise is that many flats/studios here have kitchens which are so small, cooking is challenging, so people need affordable local restaurants. In some flat share situations, you might not even get access to the kitchen. You often need something simple, hearty and quick. This place does all that!
One of my oldest friends still lives opposite there, and has done since the 70s! You can clearly see the house in the background at the start of the video.
@@hmu05366 You could argue that most of the theatres are based in London, and there are probably hundreds of free museums here, and London is one of the greenest cities in the world believe it or not! We have more green spaces here compared to most major cities. You can live quite frugally as we have Lidl/Aldi here!
Great review as always and good to see your pet fly appear as usual. I also appreciate you doing your summation with a building full of ghosts over your left shoulder. Very unique 😊
As a butcher of 50 years once told me, rump from the right breed is the best cut you can have. Average in price but massive in flavour. He used to buy female carcases at a higher cost he said for many (and obvious) reasons. It's still my favourite cut overall. The whole meal looked well cooked, well presented and of course the review was well delivered & filmed.

That food looked quite simple but extremely delicious. The sandwich……..well, I was trying to eat it with you! lol . I was drooling lol. A definite 9 for me and worth every penny for that amount of food. Hope you had fun xxxx
That looks good Gary - I's be there in a heartbeat. In Portugal they call a steak like that a "naco", literally a chunk of beef... and normally top rump as opposed to the English cut. It's tasty and tender..... but no fat. At the price asked, that was a gift.
Chimichurri sounds like something Mary Poppins🌂should be eating! Just had to look it up on Wiki as I wasn't sure what was in it! Now I know, it sounds delicious! Hi Gary, been there a couple of times and it was really good, the service was impeccable, the empanadas is really good and when we went there they were almost perfect, even according to Spanish and Argentinian standars. The other dishes we had were really good as well, especially their chicken and of course the beef, cooked to perfection, with a nice sauce and nice chips. For once the steaks are rested long enough after cooking so its still really juicy and nice. It's a nice restaurant and close to a very good wine bar, Blackbook Winery, another place in the area worh visiting. We gave the restaurant a 8 out of 10. Another fantastic review, mate, really happy for you and your family, you're are so good at describing flavours and textures so you make me hungry every time. But that's a reminder that we have to go back again and enjoy a nice and not too expensive meal with excellent service. Have a wonderful rest of your week and hopefully we'll speak soon, mate!
Great review and recommendation . My friends were from Argentina and their Dad was a Butcher , Every Sunday he would cook the best steaks , chicken and sausage you ever had .
@@hmu05366 Sorry . I don't remember . They came to Canada in the 70s like my family did from the UK . Nicest people in the world . would literally give you the shirt off their backs . I miss those Sundays . We all eat and laughed till our bellies hurt . LOL
Very nice indeed our Gary. This venue is totally different. I didn't expect that interior. I love the fact you cover as many cuisines as possible. Every one of your videos are different. You're such a unique person and have a unique TH-cam channel which I love. Very delicious food. The starter would have filled me up for sure. What an excellent price for all that quality food. Thank you our dearest Gary. Thank you for being you. Please never change. I and 1,000's love everything you and your son do. Thank you for everything you both do which takes extreme effort. Have a good week sweet x 😊
Hi Gary, I never watched "The F Word", but saw many "Kitchen Nightmares" over the years. Alot of the restaurants featured closed down after Gordon visited, but I think that was mostly due to the restaurants often being so financially in the hole & unable to come back really. Great to see this restaurant doing so well & with a good reputation. The empanadas looked incredibly yummy!!! Some of the best I ever had personally were in NYC. Steak & chips looked good too, but would have been better I'd say if properly medium-rare. Triple cooked chips definitely seems the way to go now! Outstanding sandwich also. £39 all-up seems decent value with enough there for two people. I'm getting good with matching your scores 😅... Near the end I said, that looks an 8.5 to me, let's see what Gary gives it. Ha! Great review as always & it's now approaching 6am here in Sydney & all I want is an Empanada. Take care & look forward to your next review. 💙
@@TelThePower Thanks so much Terry & same to you also. I think it's great that so many people get alot of enjoyment out of Gary's reviews. There are only two channels on all of TH-cam where I don't miss an upload... Gary Eats & Ruth Aisling. I hope you have a great week also. 😊
@@Erin-Christine Quick story... My first ever night in Aussie I booked a hotel in Bondi, for I believe around 40aus per night on the beachfront, that won't happen again lol... I then decided to stay in Coogee for a week or two, then travelled up the East coast, but... When I returned to Sydney, I stayed in Manly for 3 weeks, amazing! This was back in the late 90s Erin, when things were cheap.. I absolutely loved it, I never wanted to leave & return to the UK. I did as much as possible in the 6 months stay, loved it! Take care, have a good week! Tel
@@TelThePower Oh, Bondi can be a mistake! 😅. I currently live not far from Sydney CBD, but have visited Manly many times. My dad grew up near there & it's always been a favourite. I'm glad you had such a good time here & certainly with many fond memories I imagine. I'm planning a visit to the UK next year, mostly to visit Ireland. I've had great trips over the years to England, Scotland & Wales, but not to the regions of Ireland where some of my family come from. I hope you might have the opportunity to return to Australia for another great visit. 🥰
So good to see you expanding your culinary horizons Gary. Everything was top drawer. Hats off (or should I say Gaucho Beret) to the Santa Maria del Sur. A place to experience for sure. It's a 9/10 from me.
A disheveled man is busking on the side of the street in London with a sign that says “Falklands War Veteran” A well-dressed man notices this and feels bad, having himself been a veteran of the British Army. He pities the busker and tells him, “It must be a pity to serve your country and then come home to this. I served in the army, in fact, so I know what it’s like. Maybe this will help you out.” He then gives the man a rather large stack of cash. The busker is overjoyed, and as the well-dressed man walks away, he tells him, “¡Muchas gracias, señor!”
Seeing as you didn't give Hale and Pace credit for your 'joke', I will 👍 That joke is from the 'Falklands War Veteran' sketch by Hale and Pace... I can highly recommend watching the duos old sketches on TH-cam, one of the best comedy double acts ever!
Great choice for a review Gary. You can just tell it's a well run restaurant with great food and ambience. A hidden gem that's clearly well worth a visit. 👌
Nice place to eat. Driven past it many times. It's where I Was born. My grand parents would not recognize the area. Back in the 60s choice was fish and chips or pie n mash. I'll give this place a try next time I'm back seeing family. Cheers
Come on Gary. Santa Maria del Sur was deffo worth a 9 or 9.5, given your comments and on value alone. It was lunchtime too. I saw this Gordon Ramsay series and this restaurant won his best steakhouse award. The Star at Harome about 9 miles from me won his gastropub award and Papas in Hull his fish and chip restaurant award. I've eaten at The Star at Harome and it is popular and good. Papas used to be good but they have suffered from over expansion and are average nowadays. Recently, they even closed their Whitby f & c restaurant due to adverse trading and below average fayre. Iirc we visited our daughter about 7 years ago when she lived in Putney, we tried to book a table at Santa Maria del Sur for an evening steak but to no avail. Flat out busy and so popular. She subsequently went midweek and she was blown away by how good it was. Its great that they've sustained their popularity and your visit and review should perpetuate that.
I felt an 8.5 was fair. I understand the steak was a bit hard to cook but still if I give it a 9.5 then I will have others also saying that you rated it too high, steak wasn't cooked correctly, Graham. I saw the Papas in Whitby and like you said, did not have good ratings. Glad your daughter enjoyed her visit!
@GaryEats I would always trust your marks and judgement, Gary, as it's your palate that's being worked over by all this food. We just get elevated satisfaction levels watching your fantastic videos and being a key component in your well-deserved popularity. Thank you as always for taking the trouble to respond. See you on the next one.
Went to an Argentinian grill years ago in Amsterdam, weird I know, but they definitely know how to cook meat! Everything was fantastic, or at least I thought it was…could’ve just been the munchies! 😂
Another good video Gary 👌. I too was a little surprised at the 8.5 but maybe in the past you have been a little too nice in certain places so I found this quite refreshing 😁. Let’s see a tougher Gary 👌. Haha. Although it won’t be for you I do love your videos on the terrible places the most; particularly the rip off establishments and the horrible chain “restaurants”. Excellent channel; look forward to the next video. Richard 👍🏻
I am getting a little tougher on the scores, Richard, but this one was well-deserved. I thought it was great value. I really hope you have a wonderful week.
I think you are being slightly mean with your scoring on this one Gary, you got great food that was extremely reasonable, so i think a 9 or 9.5 is warranted.

Tell it like it is GARY best wishes from an avid devotee in Bristol you’re so refreshingly genuine KEEP IT UP
That’s very kind to say thank you
Well done another great review that sandwich looked amazing 👍
Thank you Craig and I agree
The Empanadas look great. Similar to a good pasty
Fantastic to hear Frank. Top man!! Have a good one and I'll get back to you soon
You and son are very busy with so many reviews. Thank you Gary and ‘X’ son. I enjoy watching them all my friend. Appreciated.
That’s very kind and appreciated thank you very much, Steven
Great review and recommendation .
My friends were from Argentina and their Dad was a Butcher , Every Sunday he would cook the best steaks , chicken and sausage you ever had .
Thank you very much and that sounds amazing, Philip
Where in Argentina?
@@hmu05366 Sorry . I don't remember . They came to Canada in the 70s like my family did from the UK .
Nicest people in the world . would literally give you the shirt off their backs .
I miss those Sundays . We all eat and laughed till our bellies hurt . LOL
Gary and The Cameraman . The Dymamic Duo. A great lunch. What more can you ask for. Jim and Harriet
Thank you very much, Jim and Harriet
Good to see a restaurant that has survived and thrived after all these years. So many others folded in the last few🤧😷
I agree completely David thank you
I remember watching the F Word back in the day. Looked like quite nice food Gary, a nice little restaurant. Great as always Gary.
Thank you and it was really great value Charlie
Very nice indeed our Gary. This venue is totally different. I didn't expect that interior.
I love the fact you cover as many cuisines as possible.
Every one of your videos are different.
You're such a unique person and have a unique TH-cam channel which I love.
Very delicious food. The starter would have filled me up for sure.
What an excellent price for all that quality food.
Thank you for all your hard work both you and your Son.
Thank you for sharing sweet x 😊
I really appreciate your lovely words as always Maria, thank you so much
Thank you our dearest Gary. Thank you for being you. Please never change.
I and 1,000's love everything you and your son do. Thank you for everything you both do which takes extreme effort.

Thank you so much Gloria’s 🇺🇸🇺🇸
0:20 . looks like a scene from scooby doo
Thanks for watching Anthony
Always so committed to the channel Erin, can't fault ya! Have a good week in Sydney 😊

Thank you ever so much, much appreciated Erin. Hmmm do you think I should visit NYC? Take care!
What a lovely vibe that restaurant has...I loved the chill out music. I'm not a fan of chips but those looked absolutely delicious!
Was a really nice restaurant Melanie, enjoyed it
Thank you for another fabulous video, Gary!🎉😊
You are very welcome
So good to see you expanding your culinary horizons Gary. Everything was top drawer. Hats off (or should I say Gaucho Beret) to the Santa Maria del Sur. A place to experience for sure.
It's a 9/10 from me.
Thank you very much, Robert. This is definitely an excellent restaurant. I would recommend.
Maybe it would be an idea they should go to Ramseys restaurants now(specially the Heathrow airport one) and show him how its done
I haven’t been there myself but I watched Gary’s review and I was shouting at the tv for him to send the food back!
I think that's a great idea Aiden
The meal looked pretty good, but the review was perfect! Excellent score!
That’s so kind to say thank you very much 💯👌
lets give it a go gary happy weekend🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
I hope you had a wonderful weekend
I missed this one first time around somehow. Looks great!
A disheveled man is busking on the side of the street in London with a sign that says “Falklands War Veteran”
A well-dressed man notices this and feels bad, having himself been a veteran of the British Army.
👍
That's a good one
You had me there, lol
Seeing as you didn't give Hale and Pace credit for your 'joke', I will 👍 That joke is from the 'Falklands War Veteran' sketch by Hale and Pace... I can highly recommend watching the duos old sketches on TH-cam, one of the best comedy double acts ever!
@@davidholgate123they're definitely underrated
Great choice for a review Gary. You can just tell it's a well run restaurant with great food and ambience.
A hidden gem that's clearly well worth a visit. 👌
I agree with you completely Roger
Nice place to eat. Driven past it many times. It's where I Was born. My grand parents would not recognize the area. Back in the 60s choice was fish and chips or pie n mash. I'll give this place a try next time I'm back seeing family. Cheers
It’s definitely worth a visit Lee
Hey mate those buildings in the background looked pretty amazing liked that
Looks good.
It was excellent value
Thanks Gary ,not much to say only another great review
That’s very kind to say, and thank you very much, Malcolm
The guy with the cap in the background couldn’t stop looking at you 😂.
Think he was a bit put out by the camera lol
I always feel like wearing caps indoors is a bit rude or childish. I'm not entirely sure why I think this though.
He was uncomfortable - to be honest, I would not want to be included having lunch - but then I would have moved to a different table.
Yes Sharon, it was hard but it was obvious we were filming for something
He was put out because he got caught out having lunch with his bit on the side 😅
Great review Gary. Looked really good and what value !!!
Thank you very much and I agree it’s great value
Went to an Argentinian grill years ago in Amsterdam, weird I know, but they definitely know how to cook meat! Everything was fantastic, or at least I thought it was…could’ve just been the munchies! 😂
Definitely I agree with you, a great steak 🥩
I know what you mean, Gibbo!
I'm so glad I've found you Gary. I love your content. This was a great review! Thanks!
That is very kind to say, and I appreciate you watching and commenting
Beef = Daddy Bear
Chicken = Mummy Bear
Ham & Cheese = Baby Bear
lol very good
Another good video Gary 👌.
I understand Dave maybe a bit mean
After your comments I think this meal did deserve a 9!!😂
A 9 plus for quality and price
@GaryEats i think you should consult your cameraman and reevaluate your score.
calm down 😆🤦♂
This one looks great. Really good food and another great video. Look well worth a visit.
Thank you very much. I think there are a lot of quality and it was great value.
