You are the man. The main reason I watched your video was because I replaced the gear shifter for my a Navigator with a Ford F-150 shifter, as these break and Ford quite making them despite making them new only 8 years ago. I wanted to retain the leather handle and not the crappy plastic fake wood it came with on the F-150. Your video was the only one I could find that demonstrated this (and how to clean it properly).
Great video. Helped me replace my shifter (14$) after the tow/haul button broke. I especially appreciate that early in the video you list the tools needed including the torx bit sizes. You made an easy job of something that appeared daunting. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I had an issue with my 2012 F150 where the Dash lights stayed on all day and all night. I bought the part t fix it but had no idea how to go about it. This part is attached to the shift knob and every time you put your truck into Park it turns the exit lights on in your dash. The switch went bad and so the lights stayed on past the 30 or 45 second timer. It took six weeks and several dead batteries before I found the solution. Thanks to you I was able to disassemble the center console, find the matching part, disconnect it, install the new part and put it all back together. BTW, it was pretty dirty in there without spilling coffee. Thanks again

Very helpful video, thank you. Like others that have provided comments, I also had an issue where the chrome coating was bubbling off my OEM shifter. I bought another one on eBay for ~$40. If you're just replacing the shifter, you don't have to remove the entire center console assembly. Just remove the front piece (around the shifter with cup holders), it just pops right up. As shown in the video you can simple remove the 2 torx screws in the shifter, pop up the black piece around the shifter assy, disconnect the wires and replace the shifter piece. It took less than 15 minutes.

Still after all these years, great video, thanks for posting this. I just got a 2011 Raptor and the chrome is peeling on top of the knob. This will make replacement pretty painless.

I normally don’t watch these one handed videos but I watched yours. Thank you for making it. My shifter is sluggish right at the drive point and back. Not all of the time. It just started.
After watching your video I was able to change out the shift indicator piece in my 2015 Expedtion. Cleaning chemicals had completely disintegrated the sliding cover piece. The new one comes installed in the plastic housing with the lights and light harness attached for just over $30 which I considered a bargain. Whole job took no more than 15 minutes and no scratches or damaged plastic parts in the process.

Thanks for the video! I spilled an air freshener on the shift bezel and it ate through the paint and ruined the lettering and clear portion which shows which gear your in. Now, I just gotta find the black plastic piece...thanks again, what a relief, I thought I was gonna have to pull the whole console.

Great video! Very clear on all the steps. I have a 2011 F150 and wasn't sure if I had lights or not under the shift indicator. I thought I did but was't sure and your video confirms I should have 2 of them and mine must be burnt out. From you video it looks like just removing that first main piece might give me access to them but I guess I will find out soon enough. They look like bulb #194 if I'm not mistaken. Did you notice if there is enough room to access those 2 bulb sockets with just that first section removed? Thanks again
Looks like this may be the same set up as the 2014 FX2. I need to replace that plastic flexible part that fits around the shifter. its crumbling due to this Texas heat but I think it'll make more sense to replace the entire shifter cover. Do you happen to know the part #?
Loose change is a killer on these assemblies. My wife dropped change in the shifter and a piece of plastic broke causing it to shift intermittently. This guys video was a life saver.
Do have to do all this to change the bulb? I have a 07 expedition and I assume it's the same process. It took forever to find this video. I haven't finished watching the video yet.
the closest i could find is the actual plastic piece itself BL3Z-7D443-CA look that part number up on tasca parts website to see what it looks like, make sure you check fitment to your vehicle. it looks like that is the cheapest route i dont know the PN for the actual plastic inside this piece. But the next step up is the actual shifter assembly which is about 200$ which is probably not want you need BL3Z-7210-CB
video is good. my problem is that the shifter will not go into park enough that it'll let my ignition know to let my key go. so of course. my issue is removing the key...all the lights (R, N, D, M, 2, 1)light up orange but NOT the "P" when shifting . im right about 90k. thanks

I got mine apart because I thought something fell in there and was holding it from shifting into low...what actually happened is the little black piece where that spring is broke...do you know what that's for? now that it's off it works fine? It's the little ribbed plastic piece on top where the spring is attached...
@@vladyerus at 12:14 it’s at the top beside the shifter (easier to see from the side). The spring slides into it. I think it’s only a guide, but mine broke and of course you have to buy the whole shifter.
@@vladyerus also, it has a small wheel at the end that rolls in those ribbed moguls. I made a mistake the ribbed part is where my broken part rolls on.
Hi. Just got a 2010 with the same floor console. My shifter is not "tight", in the sense it just feels loose. I can wobble it around it's vertical axis. Like something is not tightened down properly. The black handgrip is tight to the chrome shaft, it is the chrome shaft that feels loose. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
auroraboycanada I think possibly in the video at 07:06 you might have to tighten those torx screws. as you can see removing those screws that chrome part is allowed to move freely.
auroraboycanada I pried off the passenger side leather handle this morning, and found the Torx screw quite loose. Once I tightened it up, the chrome shaft no longer wobbled. In prying off the leather handle, I noticed one of the tabs cracked, and another was missing the very end (the end piece of the tab that grabs). Everything seemed to snap back on OK, but will need to see if it starts to come loose. I never bothered to remove the driver side leather piece, as I did not want to break any more tabs, and everything seemed tight anyways. Thanks for a great video.

Thanks! The dealer quoted us 2.5 - 4 hours (and over $300) to replace the selector cover and this video made it a cinch.

Your video worked great for me, I just added a double USB charging port for the back passengers, very detailed. Now to mount my train horn switches.

Have you removed the entire console? Apparently the factory amp is underneath it that I need to access to bypass for aftermarket sound system.
I have not, i was going to upgrade the sound system as well but could not make the right financial sacrifice to do it :(

Where exactly is the switch that controls the instrument cluster lights, is it on the rt side of the shifter?
