Hello my friend. You helped me a lot with this video. There was practically lost a program that activated a password without putting it in. It was a work of more than a month, and thanks to your video I was able to recover 90% of the work done. Thank you!
Thanks for the informative lesson. Since data storage is cheap, my method is to save a new version of my project almost after every change that I make. Usually it's before compiling and downloading to PLC / Simulation. Than I don't have to worry from losing a lot of work time, in the worst case I lost 1 hour of work (usually it's more like 10 minutes). And it's much easier to undo any changes that you make.
Very informative, I will check it out. But we should have some control how updates are made, I think better is to have established manual backup habit of saving versions regularly.
I just recovered the project from the PLC, everything went fine! Thanks..... My question now is, how can I do to recover the project from the HMI Comfort panel? I have read everywhere it's not possible :(
If I remember correctly when you are connected to the HMI and you click on the Tab "Online" in project view there should be some HMI maintenance options (including upload from device). But I could be wrong, have not done it in a while... The other way is through a Memory Card in the TP. You can save a backup on the card and retrieve it in TIA Portal
@@hegamurl7434 Actually I tried that today but this backup is a .brf or .bsp file that cannot be opened on TIA Portal. It can be used only for restoring it identically on another HMI (same model). If you know a way for editing or at least reading this .brf file I'll owe you a big solid 😊
Hi! Thank you for this video. Unforntunately there isn't any backup folder in my system (I am using TIA Portal v16). There are some projects that have a backup folder, but other ones doesn't have it...
I regularly got these until I stopped using dropbox for my project path. Dropbox would always open and lock files to synchronize and prevent TIA from updating it.
Hegamurl I think proper way of using any cloud drives is by archiving or retrieving it. Someone can always open a project on another computer and lets say you left your office with open project and then continued at home from One Drive or Dropbox, it would corrupt project. There is no lock file to tell TIA portal that project is opened from another computer.
@@plexiglasscorn Of course! Whenever I made a huge step with a program I make a project archive (made a video on that some time ago). But I don't do that everyday (even though it would be good, but I'm lazy)

Dear Sensei, please what's your opinion on Siemens open Library by the company called DMC? can we see some videos where u use their blocks? Thanks for the great videos and motivation.
Hi Chuchu! I have not used any of their components and libraries yet. These days I rarely find time to really read into new stuff unfortunately, I'll see if I can use it in the future!

Hallo Phil.....super gut erklärt. Ich hatte gestern bei einem HMI Projekt TP1200 V16 2 interne Warnungen beim Übersetzen.(Detail: Could not copy the file to the Generates directory, it won't be downloaded: C:\Program Files\SIEMENS\Automation\Portal V15_1\data\hmi\transfer\15.1\CP_7_9\WebContent.zip).
Hi, thanks for your videos they are very good. I want to ask you something about to save the backup in the folder *.backup. I saw you have two files data inside the folder. I tried to save my backup but it didn't create the folder and the files data, I had a file *pbkp. After the unzip there wasn't the file folder. Sorry for the question maybe it's "stupid". Thank you for your anwer
does this stil work in tia v17? the files in the back up folder are now RtData.idx and RtData.plf; is there an other way to do this now? would help me a lot :/
Hi there, sometimes come across with your lessons. If you are still accepting new themes of your lessons I would suggest one of pressing ones. It would be nice to consider a real hardware e.g. s7-1217 vs. s7-1511 vs. s7-1513 in terms of performance. What I mean: More or less experienced people know or capable to realize what means load memory or work memory. It is not so tough to realize that. Right? However, Siemens along with mentioned above "memory capacity", also measures its CPU's processing power in such units called as "bit-performance (ns)". I would watch on this comparison and the way by which it will be performed. This lesson will help to many customers to select a proper CPU and perhaps to not overpay. For example such a dependency like: the bigger program requires more work memory, for its part a huge amount of occupied work memory requires to be decreased such a parameter as "bit-performance (ns)". Or is it just a happy coincidence? I'm asking because, for example, the program may fit to 1511 work memory values, but it can be so picky to processing time that you will have to purchase 1516 (with needless work memory capacity) for example, to get the program working properly. I've already faced with such a problem. I can send to you simpliest SCL source file and you will able to perform some traces on different hardware. Normally you should see huge difference (the trace will be an excellent graphical example) between hardware capabilities. However, I'm still in doubts that trace function outputs plausible results at upper range of speeds/frequencies. Anyway this will be an excellent subject of discussion.
I am really sorry, but it takes a lot of effort to go through all comments! If there are more complex requests in them, I usually push them off for the moment and sometimes can't get to them at all... But here's a "Hi" from me!

If your IDE still does not support Git you must implement some crude backup mechanism....I am looking at you, Siemens!
Well done
