Hope you guys are ok with this subtitled episode. It just felt more natural for us to make the talk in Swedish, and this way you also get to hear our super broad southern accents 😂 Thanks for supporting our videos! Absolutely OK. I really enjoyed this conversation and it is enlightening that Kristian was scared at various points, as you both seemed so relaxed in the videos.
Did not mind the subtitles. Felt like this video was needed after you posted those epic videos. This was a perfect follow up. Still...all the great Swedish metal and yet you listen to Metallica :)
This is great stuff Juan, chatting so casually with a coffee about your epic adventures with absolutely no egos. This is what I love about your Chanel, so calm and chilled!
I love this! The best stories are when you get two guys reminiscing about one one the greatest experiences of their lives. Just imagine this talk when you’re telling it to your new child, and to their children. Believe me, you will be hero’s to many generations to come. If only more families had incredible inspirations like you in their family history!
Hi guys, I love this episode and the other Antarctica episodes, I worked for British Antarctic Survey for 6 years and sailed this exact rout many times, as part of the crew on the RRS Ernest Shackleton, visiting deception island, South georgia and the weddel sea, I really respect the effort it would have taken to do that in a fiberglass sailing boat with limited charts and equipment. So loved to hear your experience of that. Keep up the great work!
It’s nice to listen to your mother tongue (even though I need the subtitles) I didn’t realise you were a blogger all that time ago! You guys must be Swedish celebrities now! Strong friendships and lifelong bonds are forged in adversity. You guys have that special bond for life. A great video, thanks to you both for sharing your memories. 🙂
That's funny. I was just rewatching the Antartica mini series again the other day, and wondered what Kristian had been up to since. And here he is! Great to see you've kept that friendship.
Loved it. The best adventures are always the ones with the unforeseen twists and turns on a road or heading you never expected to be on. The necessarily appropriate attitude makes it priceless.
I've heard you mention several times the passage to Antartica, it was awesome to see the footage and hear the story. I love that Kristian is with the woman he met on that trip. It's the things you could never imagine happening that makes those journeys so important to take.
Johan, you seemed so calm and collected during your recent travels into the pacific. I can see now that you certainly felt death screaming in your face during the antarctic expedition, so the pacific trip was a walk in the park. Yes antarctic leaves a person with wondrous memories. Congrats!
You two surviving that trip involved a great deal of pure luck. Years from now I expect there will be another video with three salty sailors reminiscing about their adventures, Johan, Malin and Johan Jr.!
Have a look into Shackleton. Less "luck" than You might think - more seamanship and crewing and resiliency, and being young and of Viking descent in Johan's and Krillen's case, of course.
A brave adventure, fascinating story and a great recap thanks for sharing. It really bonded you two for life that level of trust and mutual respect is only gained when facing danger together.
I really enjoyed this episode. Loved the format. I felt like a guest taken along by you to Kristian's house, sipping something nice and listening to you two reminiscenting on the events at your own pace. Swedish sounds like a perfect language for telling stories :D. Thank you
Outstanding....acquaintances, friends, life long bond. Johan and Malin, you're showing us all that life long bond you two share every week. Thank you for all your hard work. 🇸🇪
Just awesome!!! I had a smile the whole way through. The best part for me, was when Kristian said that you were the only he would consider to climbs Mont Blanc.
What an awesome interview (and no problem with the subtitles either). I still watch that Antarctica series from time to time. To see Johan and Kristian reflecting on the experience so many years later is great. Good work! 👍👍
I just loved this story, and the original series from the Antarctic trip. And now I know why Johan is the master weather strategist that he has become. Nothing like learning from personal experience, if you survive it, why proper weather planning is so important!
Most people who head to Antarctica do months of training, are sponsored or support with lots of cash, have support team, technology, air support etc. Hats off, you are true adventurers.
Thank you, Johan, for sharing this with us! A truly epic journey you did together. I always believed, that the experience of sailing together builds trust, has to, in order to survive. You learn to trust each other!
Mate thank you, that was great, yes I don't mind hearing your language and reading the subtitles. So often we don't record our early adventures. Thankyou again.
thankyou for sharing this, what an amazing life changing experience and I'm sure that you will both be sharing with future generations as you get old :)
Wow! Looking at the footage and listening to the chat it is very apparent that you two blokes are the masters of the understatement....laughing and joking about some really tight and almost fatal incidents! Talk about being laid back.....great work and I enjoyed the Swedish banter, it made me pay attention to what was being said even more! Two very braves sailors but it MUST be in the blood. Thanks for sharing!!!!
I really enjoyed the chat with Kristian. The subtitle were fine and it was great to hear you speak it in your native language. That was one amazing and sketchy adventure. Thanks for sharing!
That was a fascinating chat! Possibly the most I've ever laughed watching RAN Sailing! And I have to agree, it was totally appropriate and far more natural to have it sub-titled. Thanks Kristian and Johan for sharing. I've watched the Antarctica series twice and remain fascinated by it.
My wife and I are heading to Antarctica and South Georgia Islands in February. I am glad we are doing it in a 100+ passenger ship. At our age our sense of safety wins out over our sense of adventure.
Johan- I can hardly wait for the book! We really enjoyed the chat - two old friend telling tales of their youth- great “ war stories” as we say in TV News.
Fascinating discussion - thought I'd only watch a for a few minutes but was hooked throughout. The Viking spirit lives on in guys like you! Great decision to publish this.
Thank you for sharing something so personal. I enjoyed the sub titles, it felt more like sitting a the kitchen table and reminiscing. All our best to all of you.
I really enjoyed the Antarctica miniseries, I remember after the first time I watched it I went straight to the bookstore to get Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage. Great insight from Johan and Kristian in this video, I love hearing stories of when people really put themselves out there... Hope you’re having a great time in Mexico. Cheers from Vancouver.
Antarctica....hell of a detour as Kristian's mentioned his expectation that Johan was heading for the med where they would work as carpenters! 🤣Hilarious and an amazing adventure you guys had...thanks for sharing! 👍
@@RANSailing That's pretty much like the Brits pressed their sailing warship crews amongst the farmer's sons in rural Scotland and Wales back in the days ... no matter what You tell as long as they're coming.
I am absolutely enthralled with your trip to Antarctica. If I was only young and stupid I would love to try something like this... thank you so much for sharing it. There’s a lot to be learned here...Just go do it and figure it out along the way...Time is your enemy.
The most fascinating conversation in a strait forward format! You provided lots of insight into this hair-raising corner of the world. I'm looking forward to the next segment. Thanks.
So, he met a girl in Argentina fell in love and that wasn't his answer for the best part of the trip? Did she make him sleep on the couch after that? :D
Johan, that was really great. I remember watching the videos of you and Malin leaving Sweden in winter and feeling afraid both of you. Your Antartica adventure seems like it was truly dangerous - and even a bit reckless in the way that young men can often be. It's a great story for you and your friend to have from your past, but I don't know if I could watch you do anything like that with Malin. Thanks for sharing the story with us.
Fantastic video! One of the main reasons I did my own trip a few years after. And I must say it was a lot that took me back there in memory from seeing this; Antarctica, the Horn, storms, failures, South America and friendships that lasts.
Really fun to see you on in a younger version! Didn’t know you guys made this trip and that you Johan had all this experience of sailing before you and Marlin took off. Thanks!
It was nice to hear a conversation in Swedish..even if I didn't understand it! 3That was some trip & conveyed the realities of what you felt & experienced. As he said it was a privilege that few have, though many think they would want to do. I don't think I could handle the cold. Great Vid.
Was awesome. It is odd that I was thinking about Christian yesterday, where he was, what he was doing now. Considering the craziness of the both of, glad you made it back in one peace. Good luck to you all bro.
Thank you both.....this was a very interesting adventure. After such a trip, you two probably felt almost as close as brothers. With plenty of provisions on board, that volcano sounds like a great shelter from the cold.....
Fantastic conversation! You guys are an inspiration. Also, great to hear such an honest recap of your feelings from being scared to feeling unprepared. Ah, but then it would not be an adventure if such feelings and circumstances were not experienced.
I am so glad you both survived! This was nice, thank you! I remember watching this a year or two back and thinking what brave smart guys you were but in reality you were just very lucky! ;-)
awesome episode...had no idea you had done the pole to pole sail...waay harder than around the world at the equator.i will watch the mini series now...thanks you three
This was fascinating, thank you! Love hearing you guys talk in swedish. I'd love to hear the story about Kristian and Kayla (?) meeting and falling in love in Argentina!

"With what I know today I would never do it again"
and Johan is thinking,
"Once we get the baby and bigger boat, we are definitely doing Antarctica"
Good, I now know one word in Swedish "is". So if you argue a lot and your Swedish bowman starts shouting 'IS' it's not much good shouting back isn't.
You guys are stone-cold Viking's! What an accomplishment. To be friends after all that is even better. Much Respect!
