I remember being 10 years old and listening to worlds for the first time and it really blew my mind. It was one of the first albums I listened to fully ever.
I love Worlds to death and is heartbroken to hear he wouldn't go back to that sounds. But his reference about his favorite MMORPGs shutting down, then coming back, and it not being the same really resonated and provided the closure I needed. I've also experienced my favorite MMOs getting shut down, and years later coming back in a private server form. But the environment, the players, and even I am not l the same. The memories of those games and the memories of seeing Worlds Live will forever live on in my heart.
Yeah, I think that last part is key. We are not the same as when we listened to it back then. Having Worlds 2.0 will not hit the same no matter what it would have sounded like, because I am 10+ years older.
Same, Worlds was actually something made me have a bit different taste in music and makes me discover more with other amazing artists since I'm getting sick of mainstream music that sounds like soulless trash especially back then.
BON IVER MENTIONED 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥 wonder if he feels the same way about virtual self that he does with worlds, since its a whole seperate alias instead of an album. i really hope he revisits it
Porter is absolutely right about Worlds. It's still my favorite album of his, but I wouldn't want him to go back to it and try to replicate that sound, unless it was just for fun or something. If anything, I think "Is There Really No Happiness?" captures that nostalgia-driven bit quite well. Trying to replicate it now would be chasing the dragon. The bit about the storm is cool too. I live for cool weather like that and it's a huge source of inspiration when it happens. I especially love it when it snows outside at night and sometimes the sky turns a weird hazy, very subtle orange, but because the snow is reflective, it bounces that light back and basks it in an ambient glow. Same with when it rains and it turns super orange. I had a night like that a few days ago and it was really cool, because even though you couldn't see the sun, everything was a hazy deep orange. Tornado weather like that is much the same way, and I often wish those moments could last for longer than they do.
Saw Worlds Live 6 times and I’d gladly see it another six. To this day that is probably the best production I’ve ever seen. It’s awesome to see an artist grow and evolve, to take risks and do things that drive them. I mean, that’s how expression is supposed to work. My favorite artists have all pushed their boundaries and brought the fans along. Bjork, Radiohead, Bowie-all have timeless albums that sound current even in 2024. It’s awesome to see Porter keep growing artistically ten years after the release of Worlds. Not gonna lie though , a week long run of Worlds at the Sphere in Vegas would be pretty epic….
I think the greatest thing to come from this interview was confirmation on the tour he's not just playing the new album that will get some worlds in there which means we'll probably get a little bit of everything and probably even more importantly live versions of everything kind of mixed together !! Which is what makes Porter The most unique artist in the industry right now
Been a fan since Spitfire and both nurture and smile I've had to grow into a bit because of how different my expectations are for new music from Porter. There's definitely elements of them that are reminiscent of his older music, but I do appreciate him being able to change up his style and make music that speaks to him. It just feels so authentic in that sense. And just like him there's lots of nostalgia tied to the music just because of where my life was at when those records came out, but that's just the beauty of good music that speaks to your soul.
Hearing that worlds is gonna be in SMILE tour made me immensely happy I wasn't there for the worlds tour but I wish I was, so I'm happy I get to hear some of it when I see him in Philly!
I can actually hear some of the elements of the Worlds, Spitfire, Virtual Self and nurture songs in a bunch of Smile's and that gives me the impression that the songs were designed based on changes in Porter soul and worldview from the past and wasn't created from nothing. Such hints of the pure melancholic or full of fire and energy past in the somewhat strong and positive narrative of the man who survived make me feel good of the path taken in which we didn't devalue our past experiences and thoughts
While Nurture will probably always be my favorite Porter album, i cant deny that Worlds is also an absolute masterpiece through and through. Looking forward to the show so much.
as an og porter head just wanna say i fuckin love this dude and will always support him. nurture was the best album of 2021 and smile has been just another epic evolution. i also know exactly what he means when he says there’s traces of worlds on there.. you can’t definitely hear it on cheerleader. also, yeah.. he snapped on fresh static snow. i’ll never get tired of that song
completely out of topic but i remember on an interview after he released nurture, he said he was gonna propose to his gf a year later and now that i see the ring on his finger im so happy about it 😭
and different personalities of porter: smile!:D - not sincere and fun, letting your feelings out and happy. nurture - face reality/serious and sincere WORLDS - imaginary worlds and fantasy game like, "fuck you" based music Spitfire - Electronic festive.
I remember the world’s tour that album changed my life and that tour was amazing. After seeing that show I realized I needed to get clean. And world’s definitely was exactly what I needed as a coping mechanism to push thru
i feel like a piece of shit for only recently becoming a porter fan but i think genuinely SMILE is already meaning to me what worlds seems to mean to other people

I very love a Worlds
Worlds completely changed the way I view music. I don't think I'll ever have as strong of a connection with an album as much as Worlds.

22 a million is one of the most genius albums. Truly a masterpiece
Sad Machine at Coachella 10 years ago, I was 22. What a great memory

I feel so fucking validated, knowing that Porter also thinks he cooked on "Fresh Static Snow".
The number one Worlds song I've been my favorite was probably Sad Machine since they're the first song that I discovered from you.
Worlds was such a moment ❤
been hooked since the spitfire & language days. been a wild and emotional ride

Star Wars Galaxies was the shit dude, i'm glad that Porter has a soft spot for that game. And I totally agree with his take on not "redoing" worlds.
I hate that Porter won’t go back to Worlds, but I’m happy to hear his artistic integrity is unwavering. I love him for that.
This dude is talking about star wars galaxies is actually insane to me. What a good memory
4:04 holy f*ck I snapped!
In case you see this in another ten years in a masturbatory sense, thank you for dropping the album, anime boy.
Just release a worlds live album, that all us worlds fan want.
