Do you have tips to keep back from rounding? I keep trying to straighten it but then as soon as I drive, it just rounds back again. I look like a lumbering gorilla lol
It is a bit easier said than done - but we find that really trying to force the hips a long way forward (the aim being that you need your hips in front of your foot as it lands) helps with this quite a lot. Let us know if you have any luck with this.
This is a really interesting question. The answer we normally give is that your "strong" foot is normally considered to be your kicking foot (if you are kicking a ball). However, your strong leg is actually the other one, the one that balances you as you kick the ball. This should be your front foot - so the answer is yes in this scenario. Your fast foot is then your back one, which does the fast action in the first step as you drive out. Make sense?
I'd probably just bring both my feet about 5-10cms nearer to the start line, but generally get the same sort of position - that is because you'll get less grip on the ground, so you'll need to push just a little more vertically, rather than horizontally. However, it is not a big change overall.
Hello, i am a speed skater and i want to develop my starting technique based on the track and field technique. I have on question : why putting a hand on the grounds helps taking a good start ? is a crouch start better than a standing one ? ( if you have no starting blocks ofc)
In athletics, this is for two reasons. Firstly, it is closer to how sprinters are forced to start in races. Secondly, they are in this position in races as when using blocks it allows far great force to be generated in the correct direction. Without starting blocks, it would depend on the athletes strength. We do teach crouch starts to very young athletes - but often they are quicker from standing. It also depends upon the grip you can get on the floor. Spikes help crouch starts, but if in trainers standing may well be better or you'd slip as you push off. Not sure about speed skating, in terms of how much grip you'd get.
thanks a lot for your answer, it is so on point ! Our biggest issue is generating grip at the beginning of the start. And we mostly use a standing start. I checked your video of standing start, and i learned a lot, thank you @@MomentumSports
Help!!! Please i need to know If one person starts with a crouch without a block start and the other is just leaning without touching the ground who who would pick up speed earlier ?
If the person doing the crouch start does it properly, it will be them. The key is to drive forwards from this position, not just stand straight up, or it will be slower than a standing start.
I always have a fear of falling while doing a crouch start that too without blocks..This has been holding me back to get a good start..Atleast once I want to get a good start..I start in a slow motion to avoid falling while crouch start 😭😭😭 Pls help me anyone
It is important to get as many of your spikes in the floor for when you push off as you can. That way you'll get decent grip. Keep the arms upright in the set position and trust that the spikes will do their job as you push off.
This athlete knows this isn't ideal (no athlete has perfect technique) and we are working on it - but it is worth noting that his start is one of the quickest around and the main reason he isn't quicker than the 10.6 athlete he is is speed endurance. He regularly outpaces those with quicker times over the first 20m.

Does your strong foot doesn't need to be infornt?

My school started doing crouch starts while i had to stay isolated for 2 weeks
Hopefully we can help you understand them better than your school friends. You can practice at home (stay safe and don't run into a wall!)

How would you adjust this start if you are running in regular sneakers instead of cleats?

So you don't push with your dominant foot ? Because you mainly push with your front foot know ?
Ideally you push with both. The front one for a bit longer than the back one.

I’m confused. I always thought the dominant foot needed to be the front foot.
@@FutureStyles think of it like your take off foot. Your dominant foot is the one you swing fast as you jump.
Back foot is wrong position
Second strides shouldn't be lift up , pull forward
You say push with our legs but elite sprinters say it’s a push with front leg and pull with the back
@@thegraciefighter102 push with both for about two strides.
That back curve is making me sick

I can not do this
Just keep practicing. You'll get there.
