- The small Wairarapa hapū of Ngāti Kahukuraawhitia had a dream in 2021 to buy back land in their rohe. Iwi throughout the Wairarapa had been alienated from much of their land since the 1800s. The lack of employment in the 1980s, including the closure of Waingawa Freezing Works, would lead to many whānau leaving the area and losing their cultural connection to the whenua. But Amber Craig and her whānau including her husband Tukotahi Phillips and cousin Sheree Dewbery, decided to turn to social media and started a GiveALittle Fund to buy a piece of land near the Waiohine River, Greytown. Three years later they are now turning to Pledge Me social media to raise $100,000 to help with the papakāinga phase of their plan to have whānau living back on the land. They are using a 3D CNC printer to create kitset homes under the company Te Whare Hangahanga Tapui Ltd. ➡️ SUBSCRIBE: / @thehuinewzealand

Hi Jess, perhaps through the Pledgeme page?

Pakeha are jealous of the beautiful connection Maori have with this land and their ancestors. It stings not to have an equivalent which causes pakeha to lash out and attempt to stop Maori exercising their ancestral rights.
🙏🙏🙏
I understand, but never forget, many of us tangata tiriti embrace Toitū Te Tiriti.

Awesome aunty Amber❤❤❤❤
Awesome! Love your mahi whanau. And what a lovely gesture from the whanau who realised how important you kaupapa is by settling for the lesser putea to help you realise your dream. Just goes to show there are still some people who's moral compass is still pono! All the best for the future, Mauri Ora! ☝🏽💚
