They obviously knew that this guy is extremely dangerous, trying to help her or call the police is not an option, otherwise they're putting their safety at serious risk too.
If they tried to help her and he found out, he would hunt them down and terrorise them, and she won't have wanted that.

Yes, most probably because of fear of retaliation from this psycho and his intimidating gang members. After all it is a small community. Everyone knows everyone.
Being associated with gangs can lead to being isolated from friends because they do not want anything to do with you or the gangs and in some cases the loss of family members because of the association. It is a terrible predicament to be in- especially when like this lady- did not want to be in a relationship with this horrible thing called a human.
In saying that, the cop should have had more sense and know there would have been consequences for that woman after she approached him for help.
At the end of her 16 years of all her abuse and trauma and because of her daughter's intervention of another suicide attempt - She took steps to heal herself and when she did this and joined the Suicide Prevention programme - her life changed. It was good she finally told the police of her 16 years of hell. Good job that gang got rid of him. That man should never be let out.
He is a danger to society and to this woman.
Well done Zarnia - You are a strong beautiful woman.

I knew another woman who was in a predicament like this. She had 5 kids including a sick baby who was in and out of hospital. She was from up north and her case was so bad that The Women's Refuge up there arranged for her and her children to move secretly to Napier and she moved into the flay next to mine. Her 5 month old baby was again admitted to hospital with a serious lung disease. She knew her ex was looking for her and she was living in fear. I told her if she needed to she and her kids could hide out in my place. Anyway, something must have happened because next thing she moved out suddenly in the early morning hours and was gone. This started with a home invasion and imprisonment of the home owner. I can't wrap my head around labelling this DV. There was no relationship. She doesn't even remember what happened on the night she met him. He could've slipped her something. He took everything from her. He systematically and psychotically destroyed her life. 18 years isn't long enough and DV isnt the right term too describe what he did.
Anyway, her bravery is astounding and her life is on track. She and her children deserve all the happiness and peace and love in the world.
Just curious about her employer. They must've realised what was happening. She must have had many sick days. I don't know if she stayed with the same employer or not. I'm just thinking that her job was kept for her. She had a few hours of safety at work, but noone offered her anymore than that.
The police officer certainly didn't. Her family and community, put the potential risk too their safety, above hers. She was only 21, making a genuine go of her life and noone protected her.
Saying at the end that the gang had no idea and would help her from now on and would take better care of their women folk. Yeah right, I don't think anyone believes the cosy idea that gangs are the families of the disenfranchised and left behind kids, any longer.
