Road Trip to the Tallest Trees on Earth

  • Visiting the world’s tallest trees in a DIY truck camper! California is home to both the tallest and biggest trees on planet Earth. However, the “tallest” and “biggest” trees are in two different places! The “biggest” trees by volume are found in Sequoia National Park, whereas the “tallest” trees by height are found here in Redwoods National Park. Super cliche to say this (I know) but wow. I was not expecting these trees to be this big! It’s impossible to fully convey the significance of these beautiful monsters on camera. Their presence is massive.

People can say what they want, but California is super awesome. Snow to beach in around 3 hours. gold. Redwoods. 420. I absolutely love living in nor cal. I'm an hour from the coast, and 2 from the mountains. Enjoy this place while you can.

I'm sure you're long past by now, but if you get back this way, you CAN stay right in the redwoods -- Jedediah Smith state park is right by the national parkland and has a campground pretty much on the river, under a canopy of giant redwoods. It fills up quickly in the summer, but is totally worth checking out in case there's an opening. There's no feeling like waking up amid giants! :D

Fern Canyon! One of the magical places I've ever been to. They filmed part ofJurassic Park there. Glad you made it there. There's a great campground near the Smith River off of the main highway, landside. I think it's a state park site. Great little sites with a creek leading out to a private beach area and a hike going toward mountainside.

You are parked at the boat ramp, the place above that is myrtle Beach to tourist and slant Bridge to locals. It has an amazing jumping or diving rock at the swimming hole and the most calm waters, safe for children and families. On the other side is second bridge and it has its own Instagram page and above that is the south fork of the Smith. You are at the forks. So beautiful. The south fork is also beautiful as it is pristine. Trails everywhere.
