This is one of the most informative, and effective video's I've seen on TH-cam. It's also extremely well done. No shaking, out of focus, eating while you babble on about useless crap. Thank you Antystein for helping me NOT have to buy a new printer. I've had this printer a long time and even though the new ones are relatively cheap, and inexpensive, I hate to give up one that does everything I want. I was just about ready to throw this one out when I found your video. Again, THANK YOU!
You are f genius. I got a free hp photosmart c8180 from internet (used one). May be guy didn’t use it for a long time. When I bought new cartridges it wasn’t working. Only two colors where printing. After hundreds of inbuilt “print head cleaning”, it didn’t work. Then I thought to open printer but I didn’t find any informative video pertaining to C8180. I saw your video and boom… the hardest part for me to take off top cover. After seeing this video I’m I got a clue how to release those lock to remove top cover. Thank you very much
Great guide. Resurrected my c5180 In a hour :) i didn't go as far as slicing the printer head away from the block I just very carefully rinsed it still attached. Then gave the ribbon connectors a good blow out. Put it back together and the machine working good as new. Thanks for your time creating this very informative video. Thumbs up!
Thanks to youtubers of old for such useful content. My C5180 is still in use after what seems to be decades of ownership. Inks are now being discontinued and I will be installing a CISS to complete the design, that this printer had well before its time. Separate inkwells. Have replaced the rockers on the print head ( hand made more durable ) and replaced all caps on the main board. Truely an amazing unit in function. Need a video on the inkwell cleaning though, for those that continue this legacy.
I also replaced the caps once. The originals where bad. Now my paper feed gear broke...have to take the whole machine apart and switch it with a printed or machined gear. I bought a brand new, never initiates C580 some days ago but it doesn't print black. Couldn't initiate it because the original cartridges are bad so I just threw in my cuss and black has an issue. Got another free C6280 (broken paper feed gear) and a D7180 (perfectly fine but no LAN port) which could donate a print head. This project Byer with CIS has save me thousands of €€€€ over the last 15 years.
I used to repair Apple products and HP Inkjet/Laserjet printers for a living. I own this printer. The method I always used first was to clean the head as well as the rubber wipers, gently, with a cotton swab with 90% isopropyl alcohol and re-test the print. If any stubborn lines still appear that the self-cleaning and deep cleaning modes won't clear up, then you can go further, otherwise you risk contamination and misalignment of the head (you may have clogs later on...). This method works 90% of the time for micro-nozzles, and there is usually no need for using the cleaning modes that only waste the ink. If you do have to remove the nozzles, make sure your final rinse is with distilled or filtered water, and/or isopropyl alcohol, but never tap water.
Hi antystein, after ten years my Photosmart C6180 stopped printing Magenta. Followed your great instructions and now it's alive again. THANK YOU. I just had to add a factory reset procedure step at the end: unplug the printer power, hold down # and 6 on the keyboard and plug the power cord back in while holding the keys until printer turns off by itself, press power on button to go through printer initialization - as when it was new.
Thanks for the video! Helped me fix my Photosmart 3200 series which has a very similar print head assembly. I was able to get mine cleaned without completely taking it off by using alcohol soaked paper towels to dissolve and wick away the clogged ink in my black print head. Thanks for the great video.
I have a Photosmart C7200 Series. Due to your tutorial I was able to save the printer from scrapping. Thanks a lot. The disassembly was for the most part identical. It was easy to wing the differences. One actually needs two different size torx drivers size 6 for the smalles screws on the printhead itself and size ten for the rest. Of course it may be different with other models.
Omgoodness! Omgoodness! Super big thanks for this tutorial! I haven't been able to print any pictures of my daughter who is almost three now! So this worked for a clogged printer of 4 years! Lol I was only getting blue yellow and green. Then following most of these steps, and inked all over my hands ITS FIXED!!! i love my printer I hated trying to get a new one. Especially since this one went without use for too long and tnats why it stopped working. I followed with the exception of the intimidating cutting of black caps to detach printhead for rinsing. Instead I ran super hot water in a shallow bowl so it flowed around giving me a current to carefully hold the hanging head in to rinse. Sure enough the magenta was clogged! It was so bad I couldn't see anything through it questioning if it was black. However with patients and more patients it came unclogged. I could see ALL CLEAR LINES. Dried with paper towel and swiped with a lil alcohol. Reassembled. Then printed a small copy, followed with the printers printhead cleaning. ThN k y o u! Thank you! Oh by the way this was for my hp photosmart c7280 all in one. Oh and thanks again!
Thanks for your comment! I am glad I could help you!

Thank you man. This saved me ~80€ in new bought inks that I couldn't use because the printer complained about hardware failures. I had to dissasemble it and play with the hidden menus (shown after pressing left+setup, then OK or right) but finally got it working.
Just used this video to get HP Photosmart C6280 printing again - both light & regular magentas were blank on the self-test report (printer not used for several months, and just refitted with new inks). Worried it might have been a pipework blockage, but followed this video and after a couple of hours deep cleaning, self-test report shows all 6 colours as expected. I did change a bit though - at ~3min mark, I didn't want to cut the board from the print-head so just used a cup of hot water - just balance the block above the cup with the head dipped into the water, swirl and change out water a few times! No idea how much time this saved and how much a repair would have cost! Great help, and easy to follow. Just keep pausing the video at points when you reach a time-consuming bit. Thanks!
I was desperate and about to buy a new printer => I followed step by step your guidelines & it's magic : new beautiful colours again !!! Thank you so much !
A fabulous tutorial! Used this on a D7160, so the different case and spring hinges slowed me down a bit, but the print head info was spot on and it appears to be printing black correctly again. Thanks VERY much for putting this together!
Superb video, thank you so much. I cannot understand why 49 people would give a thumbs down for this why? Did you want the man to call to your home and do it for you?
Printer HP C6180 sat for 6 months in 2-3% humidity. Only blue would print. Watched this video. Printer is working like new. Brief additions: Removing scanner is the toughest part. Hinges have tabs that have to be pushed back. Five cables to disconnect, Two additional, silver, screw on back panel need to be removed, top has a plastic attachment on the left side, as viewed from front. Printer would not print for more than 10 copies. Figured that the ink pumps needed to be activated. "Set up Menu", "Tools", "Clean Printhead". Pumps activated and the rest is happy printing. Did have to purchase a tool to remove the printer head screws, (Radio Shack) Would like to learn how you produced the video, lighting, camera, etc. Very Clear
Thanks Pat. I was about to write my own correction to this video re c6180 difference from c5180 (in the part of scanner detachment). However you've already done that. Excellent work!
Finally someone who actually shows you how to do it all the way! Do you have a vid for the C8180? People seem to gloss over that one, but there there those of us out there who would love to see this done for that machine...and in English, not Spanish! My q is, what about the electronics on the C8180 printer head, I hear you cannot clean that as easily and need to watch any water getting onto that board...a special syringe is very necessary to clear and clean that one...but, most other parts are about the same to take apart... Thanks! Vicki
Very very nice tutorial dude. I am stuck with one such printer with punctured hoses between cartridges and pump. I'll go the extra mile cleaning the head as well. You made my day !! Thanks !!
Great instructions, all processes worked fine. After powering up got a ink system failure and have not been able to clear , reset or even turn the unit off. This was a great printer Printed over 10K pages in 3 years. Time for a new one.
Hello antystein, thank you for the helpful Video and the annotations. I successfully cleaned the print head and the scan glass of my HP Photosmart C7280. I did it without removing the electronic board 3:06 I simply rotated the white board with the holes 90° and cleaned it and the black rubber plate carefully also with tap water. The difference and difficulty was that mine has 2 cover holder on 0:36 but I managed it. The scan glass had a stain on the lower side so I had to remove the screws and rotate the ADF 90° antt-clockwise while opening the strap.
I used to have patience to try this but I don't know. Iol I can tell this video is acurrate. I had mine so long I bet my printhead is jacked up. I will buy another. great job.
Brilliant video. Thank you for encouraging me to take a Thorx 10 screwdriver to my C7180 "all for one and none for all" printer. Some notable differences, such as different lid attachment and needing to start with the front right panel (with power button), then side, then lid is connected differently. There are also numerous areas full of ink inside. The attachment of the final part (in above video) where ink is delivered, is riveted and cannot be unscrewed. I made a mistake or prising off the cover to find it was glued ... I glued it back. I had most trouble with the lid's connections to the circuit board. Reconnecting them was easier if I unscrewed the circuit board. Not sure if that worked since I reassembled it and plugged it in and it was DEAD.- No spark of technical geeky life. The C7180 was DOA. It was so dirty and 10 years old, that trying to save it was an enjoyable waste of time. It was probably 800€ in Helsinki in 2005, but the replacement is
Thank you! saved me some time opening similar models (ps 8250, 3110, 3210 etc.) I often encountered ink failure message. Reset on these models by temporarily removing printhead flatcables on pcb which often clears the problem.
Thank you, this video saved both the money in my pocket and the printer from certain disposal. An additional note to those that may encounter an error message '0xc18a0201 Error' . 1. turn off the printer, 2. Turn it back on while holding down both the Help(?) and the OK buttons. 3. Keep these two buttons held down until the printer finishes doing what it need to do. In my situation, it asked me to confirm what language I wanted and then printed off an 'Extended Self test diagnostic page'. Thanks again
This is very similar to the Photosmart 3310 (Q5861A). The biggest difference is that you need to also remove bezel around the memory card slots to remove the right side panel. There is one screw above the right side of the paper tray, and you also need to remove the top grey screw in the main bezel (removed at 1:09) labeled "1" to lift up that main bezel slightly to release the catch on the memory card bezel.
Great video! I would just add that the screws are Torx T6 (for print head) and T10 for the rest. Did everything as shown but for some reason when the printer goes through a reset, it pumps an incredible amount of ink that goes everywhere. I thought the print head probably was not torqued enough with the four little T6 screws, but that was not the case. The gasket looked good and all parts were clean and dry and properly seated when assembled. Did not want to strip the threads, but those screws are in tight! What a shame! Spent a lot of time cleaning the ink hoses and reservoir that had dried ink. Had to turn the pump and draw a vacuum at the other end before the ink started flowing again, but now the printer just draws too much of it. Any ideas before I give up completely on this?
The C8180 also has to have the printer head primed after cleaning it...so that may be a problem. Also go into the tech menu on that to get a full nozzle print out, as that will help prime your unit after cleaning it. You have to print out a lot of photos to get it running right again. Keep printing to see if that helps to get your unit cleared. Try also some alcohol on the front pins where the unit connects to the ink wells. Those can get blocked as well or use the kit below as the tech her recommends. You have to use your printer at least 2 times per month to prevent the inks from clogging your systems. It is the nature of these types of ink systems. After doing a ton of tests and checking others, this is what I have found out. Hope that helps!
I've had to change the capacitors on my mainboard but cleaning the printhead looks like a whole other pita. I hope I never have to do that! Love this printer...the CISS retrofit saved me ~5000€ for ink over the last 12 years.
Hello antystein - I hope you get this message because so far I have not been able to find a diagram of all the parts for my HP C6180 all in one printer and here is my issue. I have torn apart my printer, as you have done in this video - and my many thanks to you, as your video was very good and I was able to continue to look upon it as I was tearing it down and now Im in the process of putting it back together. When disassembling it and removing the things those little gears kind of flew off that you describe where the arm of the printhead slides onto. Well when this happened - I only noticed and found "ONE" gear that came off and that was the top one that the arm of the printhead slides on top off. I have looked everywhere and do not remember whether the bottom one was there or not and it is surely not inside the printer as I have checked that out thoroughly! There is a hole where one would go, but Im pretty sure only one came off! My question is - could this printer have run without that bottom gear? Does the C6180 have the same gear under the top one? I cannot find a diagram of parts. I have never had this torn apart and Im telling you - I dont think it was there? Now obviously if it needs it, it had to have been but I obviously am missing it, which would suck because everything went pretty well! (I think) If I need this what is the part called? The cartridge does move back and forth with no problem that I can see? On another note I might mention my issues with the disassembly. It is comical that the biggest issue I had was removing the top lid which took forever and a day! I was ready to take a hammer to it! The other issues became a couple of the screws, which were a nightmare on the printhead itself. I didnt have the smallest tool for those screws and around the last screw some of the plastic broke off and I glued it back. Whether it lasts remains to be seen but it didnt affect applying the piece back after cleaning as only alittle bit of the plastic around the screw cracked off. I will say HP does not make it easy when it comes to these darn screws and the lid! Anyway I would appreciate your help if you read this and I would have rather emailed but this is the only way I knew to ask you. Im excited to see if this runs and corrects my problem after all this work! I also found a couple small pieces of paper inside that obviously was causing one of my problems with the paper jamming constantly - the other was with the black cartridge not printing. I used to tear apart computers and put them back together and I found that easier THAN THIS! LOL. This really became a pain in my *** :) Many Thanks!
The bottom gear engages with the gear at the far left of the head travel. It is used to move the lever and prime the head with ink. I don't know if there is a part number for it. I would think that it is hard to jump out of the printer. It should be still inside, maybe if you turn the printer upside down it will fall out.
Well Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I have turned the printer upside down, side to side, every which way and nothing comes out. I also cannot hear anything. For the life of me I have no idea where it could have went? I did not notice it before because I wasn't taking that apart - the top one just popped off, and apparently the bottom one? That sucks because if I did everything correctly, that little piece stands between the whole printer functioning now. :( Thank you.
Man, you really make this shit look easy! I'm currently on the Push Tab part to get the top part off, but my C8180 newer design has 2 of them (one on each side) and they are NOT easy to Push/Pull! *Whew* That part took 45 minutes, alone, and that was WITH Mineral Oil Light Lubricant on the Push Tabs! Hopefully, that was the hard part. Man, this sucks. I can't finish this in one day -.- For some reason, my screw heads for the step @2:41 are 5x (maybe more) smaller than all of the previous screws and my entire toolkit of 30+ tools with 5 Star-Head Configurations and a set of 20 Alan Wrenches cannot fit these screws. This sucks. UPDATE: I needed a T6 Hexagonal Screwdriver Head to unscrew the 4 screws @2:41 . UPDATE 2: *Sigh* I did every single thing right in this video - even double-checked every single step, but in the end, I downgraded from not being able to print Photo or Regular Magenta to not being able to print a single color, at all! UPDATE 3: So, you need a T-10 socket for most screws and a T-6 for the inner print heads. UPDATE 4: I opened it up multiple times and kept checking every single step. I don't know what's wrong or why this is happening, but now the LCD Display won't show up. I swear, I've serviced, disassembled, and rebuilt dozens of entire Desktop PCs, but this Printer is making problems that don't make sense!
Damn you are rock ! you did good job on fixing that printer. I own one too been trying to clean it and it keep jamping the paper too ..the colour is kind of change from one to the other.
The whole world is talking about sustainability. That's exactly why I want follow your fantastic instructions. Thanks a lot. Can you please state what size and kind screw driver you were using. What do you call that green spatular properly and the glue you are using is that the kind that maintains some resilience or is it tough when hardened through. I am thinking about a follow-on disassembly.
Volker Miesek Thank you for your comment! The screw driver is called "torx" I am not sure about the size at the moment (could be torx 10). The plastic tool I am using is part of a mobile phone disassembly kit, and the glue is just plain CA glue (superglue).
If anyone followed the steps in this video and still can`t print after doing a head cleaning six times then you most likely cut the trace on the circuit board that`s attached to the head while cutting the two pieces that are holding the circuit board. i put a piece of clear box tape over my traces and my friends printer is printing great again. if you didn`t cut the traces and your sure you put everything back together correctly then you could have a bad pump.
It is normal to have some delay for the ink to start coming out of the printing head. Printing some test pages and doing several head cleaning cycles does the trick as mentioned by other users too.
Excellent Video Antystein, thank you. I am now trying to dismantle my Photosmart 8230 and I can't see how to unclip the two corner strips. These are a darker grey and run down the left and right sides of the top, the left and right front sides and curl around the front base for a short distance. There are three recessed latches on the top and depressing these frees the top portions but it is still firmly latched down the left and right sides and where it curls around the bottom front. Any ideas on how to free these sections?
Just went through the entire process in your excellent video but I must have missed something because when I turn it on the carriage travels across and back then stops and says carriage jam. What did I do wrong?
+Jons01 I replied earlier to you about doing the reset, plugging the power in while holding the 'Help'(?) and 'OK' button until the printer powers off, and then power it back on. I just replaced all my cartridges with 2013 expired genuine HP 02xl cartridges, ($26 on eBay) except for the original black which was full. I let it run through the setup, which takes a few minutes and then ran alignment, (which is a crucial step). My C5180 is working like new after sitting in a closet for close to ten years. I didn't have to take it apart, I cleaned the head using the paper towel method of running the heads over a damp folded paper towel in the channel beneath the head. I washed out the reservoir sponge with dish soap, to get rid of excess ink. There may still be hope for your printer, but the hard reset is the only way you will restore printing. If you replaced the capacitors, and the head is not damaged, you should be able to print again. Good luck. The only problem I am having is with paper pickup in the main tray, so I may have some more cleaning to do on the rollers, but getting the new carts was well worth it.
+Mooncalf2012 Thanks, I had tried the hard reset before the caps went bad and it worked. I replaced the bad capacitors per others with the same issues posting instructions on the web.But now it appears that the control panel has quit working. But, I am afraid this is beyond my ability to repair. Sure was fun giving it a shot.
Well done very nice video !!! I have exactly the same model and after a general solution for cleaning I do not remember where this part is placed Do you know?
Thank you for this fix. Having streaked black color printing outputs i followed all the procedure to clean the printhead since the printer has not been in use more than 2 years. After disassembly and assembly of the machine, when i turn on the printer it shows the ''ink system failure'' message, error code 0xc19a0002. I have tried all the solutions found in the web for this error code but nothing works. I have opened the upper cover having jammed it and the ink carriage seems to roll ok. I removed the printhead's black plastic cover and turned on the printer but it seems that the ink does not reach the printhead as there is not flowing any ink in all six trasparent printhead's hoses during the printer's initialization process. I seems that when pulling out the hoses from the printhead during disassembly the hoses took air inside. I will try to use the method(syringe) mentioned below by another comment to fill the hoses with fluid(distilled water). I hope it will work.
Hi, Great video but I wonder if you can shed any light on replacement of a damaged printhead carriage belt on this printer. I have inherited one from my late Father-in-law and the belt is shredded in a couple of places so the carriage stutters and stops during travel on start-up. I suspect it's had a jam at some point. Short of following your dismantling procedure and working out how the belt is anchored and the timing critical assembly, I'd rather hear form someone who has possibly done it. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Great video! Just wondered whether you have any tips on what to do if you have a 'carriage jam' message - it's actually a mechanical fault - rollers won't pick up the paper, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing it, and haven't beeen able to find a video that deals with fixing the plastic gears which is what I believe the problem is - any direction would be gratefully received.
Any suggestions for clearing the microscopic nozzles completely when rinsing under running water doesn't work? I've tried that for a long time, it soak in warm water for a couple of hours. The only parts that clear are the parts that line up directly with the holes on the other side. The rest of the "lines" are still saturated. Thanks for the help.
i have the c5280 and was looking for a teardown/disassembly video but this one is completely different even tho exterior wise is almost the same thing. one of the rollers part of the roller pick up broke and i am trying to figure out how to get to it to try and glue it back together, if not buy the part for it. not sure if teardown will help or not but i will try.
Very good tutorial....A friend gave me his old C8180 which was stored in his garage for almost a year. With a lot of patience I washed the printhead and put it back. But now it makes weird noises and I have the following error "Ink System Failure. Ink system has failed. Unable to print. Refer to printer documentation Error 0xc19a0028. Turn Power off, then on again". Any clue how can I fix this error?? I'm almost certain I reconnected everything! Thanks!
The biggest problem I have is finding the screwdriver for the screws to remove the printhead. The instructions also work for HP D7100, with some differences in the opening of the cover (a real pain)
ok, good video. I have a HP Photo C6180. Did everything on the video.... I think. But now my printer is spitting out blank pages. Before I took it apart it wasn't printing red. But now I get nothing. Any ideas?
Thank you for the video. When I reconnect the printer it seems like the carriage is locked to the far right position. The display will show the HP logo with the bar scrolling, the question mark will like up for a brief moment and then the printer turns itself off and then back on and it repeats that cycle. I do hear a lttle clunk inside before it shuts off, that is why I somehow think it is related to the carriage being stuck. I have had the machine apart multiple times checking and rechecking the 4 ribbon connections. Any advice?
I have a c5180 that has been sitting around for a few years. After basic wiping down and checking ink liquidity, the yellow cartridge was not cooperating with the Print Test. So happy to have found your comprehensive and clear video! I have followed it-now disassembled and reassembled the thing 3 times-to no avail. It gives me Ink System Failure Unable to Print Error Code 0xc19a0002. It will not run an Align or Print Test, or Clean Printhead. I have reset factory defaults, I have pulled the power cord while it was on and held the OK & Help buttons several times... What did I miss? Or do wrong? Any thoughts? Thanks to all the comments too, even though I have as yet been unable to sort the issue out.
Left button+the wrench button, OK button and then 2 times to the right in the service menu. There you can erase the failure memory. Do it 3 or 4 times...then the ink system failure is gone and it will print again.
I didn't had Black color. But after operation I was printing white paper... (I hardly had some blue and yellow after many alignment color/head..). And now, I rechecked but I probably broke the print-head by removing it once again. Were can I buy one?? (exact same printhead for HP C7820)
Antystein, I know its 8 years since you made this video. It helped me a lot in the past. Now I'm facing a problem with a bogus 'paper jam' error. I've opened the case as you showed and checked, there is no paper jam. I think the paper feed mechanism is just not able to pick a sheet of paper and move it through the feed for printing. Is there any tips you can give me to solve this? I've used this C5180 for nearly 15 years, with a Continuous Ink System, really saved me a lot of money through the years. I don't want to junk it, because it was still printing perfectly until a couple of days ago when this 'paper jam' error came up and won't go away.
Hello, it's surprising that I still get comments on this video after all those years! It is normal for the printer to give you a paper jam if it knows that the paper has stopped at a certain point or if the paper doesn't arrive to a certain point at the expected time, which is your case since the printer can't pick up the paper. It is not uncommon for the rollers that pick up the paper to go bad on printers and photocopiers. You can usually clean them up with alcohol to make them sticky again so that the paper doesn't slip or try to find a replacement. I really don't remember where exactly are these rollers on this particular printer but I think they should be accessible from the back or from the underside of the machine
@@antystein Hey, thanks for your quick response! Yes, I agree, it's very likely a problem with the paper feed rollers being unable to pick up the paper. If I reset the printer so that the paper jam error disappears, and try again, I can hear a clicking sound as the feed mechanism tries to pick up the paper and fails, then I get the paper jam message. I have taken the outside shell off and can see the paper-jam sensor on the back, and all the paper feed mechanism is also clearly visible. I'll try cleaning them with alcohol, as you suggest, and then see if it works. I actually have another C5180 in my attic that worked for years, and then quit with the same problem. If it works for this one, then it will probably work for the other one as well. Thanks antystein.
Hello Antystein ! Your video was really helpful to know how to clean the printing head. Now that I reassembled the printer I have an issue with the head carriage. I did like you said @5:30 (put the head to the right side and rotated the transparent wheel anti-clockwise until the end), so the head is down and locked. But when I start to print, the head goes to the far left side and it seems to be a problem with the 2 little white gears we see @5:37. They don't grab the gears from the head unit, it's noisy, and an error message appears. I don't see what's wrong, I don't know what to do :( any idea ? thanks !
lol. love how he just pulls the electric cords out of the green board. warning: I tried to use pliers & broke the cord. you are not to remove the white component attached to the board like I did. love how he made look so easy, but when your inside it, seems more complicated. 😀
I followed this guide and I am getting the same error code as +popotit0 - 0xc19a0028 Ink System Failure - When it runs through the self test at startup, the head slides over to the left side (facing the printer) and the gears (the ones that fall off the print head assembly in the video) move up left and right a small amount then a large amount and it slips off the bracket from the print head then errors out immediately after- any ideas? Is this normal - could you record the gears on a working self test on startup?
Thanks for the great photosmart vid antystein. Added to my watch later vids for when I start work on my C6180 which appears very similar to the C5180. Noted the others comments about some of the difference to watch for when disassembly. I pulled my C6180 as it was failing to print on 4x6 photo paper correctly. After replacing the printer I discovered globs and streaks of ink both on the surface that the printer was on and on its underside - facing the front of the printer the ink discharge was on the right bottom from front to back. It appears that is the approximate location for the waste ink pads. My guess is that they are saturated and overflowing. Assuming they are some kind of foam can replacement foam be cut to fit? I noticed you mentioned using absorbent towels folded up. Plus can you add any comment about getting at the waste ink area? Is it just some kind of covering screwed on it? I hope to work in the C6180 in the month or so. My C6180 last several years - I hope to put it back in service for at least photo printing since with the HP advanced paper it printed really nice pictures. Granted the replacement Epson Workforce 3640 that I installed does an ok pic. The WF-3640 does have the bonus of smudge/moisture resistant ink AND a removable/replace-able waste tank.
i have a hp c 6180 printer. i am having trouble removing the top scanner bed. i unhooked the right side and on the left side released the tab but the right side remains stuck... what am i missing. sam 423 381 7051
We have a C6180. Have watched video but we get stuck at the stage of removing the top cover (at about 30seconds in). There seems to be a slight difference in the design of the clip housings. Also there appear to be clips on both sides and we have tried pressing both and lifting. Any ideas?
+Tom Diccon Harry King Sometimes when it is the first time you take apart plastic parts that have clips like this printer, it may require a considerable amount of force to un-clip. Take it slow an look for any hidden screws.

Thumbs up!
I've never seen such useful and helpful video, every steps are clear and easy to reproduce, thank you a thousand times
There shouldn`t be any thumbs down because this video is EXCELLENT.
Best video I've seen regarding these Photosmart HP 02 series printers. My C8180 thanks you!
Excellent tutorial. Clear, concise, well-edited and no unnecessary chat.

My admiration and everlasting gratitude for this !
Ty for this video, as a mechanic I have a notion to attempt this on my gfs c7280. Your video was inspiring to say the least.
Definitive explanation of the process. Doubt the average owner is up to the task.
Amazing vid! Your attention to detail is highly appreciated. This will help a bunch with my c8180... and my c5180 .
Awesome!
Did have to purchase a tool to remove the printer head screws, (Radio Shack)
Would like to learn how you produced the video, lighting, camera, etc. Very Clear
Thanks Pat. I was about to write my own correction to this video re c6180 difference from c5180 (in the part of scanner detachment). However you've already done that. Excellent work!
maybe you could be more vague, but that's doubtful
Finally someone who actually shows you how to do it all the way! Do you have a vid for the C8180? People seem to gloss over that one, but there there those of us out there who would love to see this done for that machine...and in English, not Spanish! My q is, what about the electronics on the C8180 printer head, I hear you cannot clean that as easily and need to watch any water getting onto that board...a special syringe is very necessary to clear and clean that one...but, most other parts are about the same to take apart...
Thanks!
Vicki
Excellent. Just used this on a Photosmart C6280 that was not printing magenta or light magenta at all. It worked very well.
Большое спасибо за видео!
Вы нас спасли от ремонта в сервисном центре.
Brilliant video, served as my companion through the whole process - thanks for taking the time to make it :)
Hello antystein,
thank you for the helpful Video and the annotations.
It was probably 800€ in Helsinki in 2005, but the replacement is
antystein you deserve way more subscriptions !!!
Thank you! saved me some time opening similar models (ps 8250, 3110, 3210 etc.)
I often encountered ink failure message. Reset on these models by temporarily removing printhead flatcables on pcb which often clears the problem.
Thanks for posting this. It made this process so easy. I appreciate you making my fix simple. Good Work!!
Great Video, One in million video for this work, great !!!
Thx Much! Got my Photosmart C6180 running, thanks to your vid. Much appreciated....
Thank you, this video saved both the money in my pocket and the printer from certain disposal.
An additional note to those that may encounter an error message '0xc18a0201 Error' .
1. turn off the printer,
I have this hp-printer. But it is down. I found this video a few days ago. It seems to be what I have been looking for. Thanks for sharing
Vielen herzlichen Dank, Alle einzelnen Schritte super gezeigt, hat mir sehr geholfen.
Thank you for this video you have saved me a lot of trouble.
Thanks so much for this guide. I successfully got my printer working again.
I almost destroyed my printer with a hammer, thank you very much for this awesome video.
LOL. This really became a pain in my *** :)
Many Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful video. So clear and helpful. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MAKING THIS!
Absolutely brilliant & informative video! ;) thx veeery much for this tutorial perfectly made :)
Yay, thanks for helping me fix my C3210!
I have a c8080 and this is similar. The think this is the best video for this type (hp 02) of printer
Gonna try this in couple days with my c5180. Good job!
If anyone followed the steps in this video and still can`t print after doing a head cleaning
six times then you most likely cut the trace on the circuit board that`s attached to the head while cutting the two pieces that are holding the circuit board.
i put a piece of clear box tape over my traces and my friends printer is printing great again.
if you didn`t cut the traces and your sure you put everything back together correctly then you could have a bad pump.
Superb Job all round! Thanks!
Best video I've ever seen
ok never mind. ITS WORKING!!!!!!! I printed a test page & cleaned heads.good looking on the video.
Fantastic video. Thank you so much!
Excellent tutorial, thank you so much!!
Just went through the entire process in your excellent video but I must have missed something because when I turn it on the carriage travels across and back then stops and says carriage jam. What did I do wrong?
Still relevant - thank you
thx it works on Hp C7280.
All color back after one was bad.
Top Cool
This is an EXCELLENT video. Unfortunately it didn't fix my issue. But I know how to get into the printer. Thank you!
+Jons01 Thank you!
Sure was fun giving it a shot.
how did you do that damp paper towel cleaning?
Спасибо огромное выручил!!!
Excellent job on this video. Thank you very much!
Keep the printer as level as you can!
Thank you very much!
For this informative en wel documented video.
It was very helpfull!
Well done very nice video !!!
I have exactly the same model and after a general solution for cleaning I do not remember where this part is placed
Do you know?
Great video but did not fix my issue. Still getting the print head error. I wish there was a way to force a hard reset.
Thanks!!! You just saved my world:D thanks thanks thanks
VERY VERY VERY GOOD JOB !! THANKS !!
i have the c5280 and was looking for a teardown/disassembly video but this one is completely different even tho exterior wise is almost the same thing. one of the rollers part of the roller pick up broke and i am trying to figure out how to get to it to try and glue it back together, if not buy the part for it. not sure if teardown will help or not but i will try.
You are the best! Thank you.
This is a great disassemble video. I have 4 of the colors not printing.
Very helpful video, thanks so much for posting!
ok, good video. I have a HP Photo C6180. Did everything on the video.... I think. But now my printer is spitting out blank pages. Before I took it apart it wasn't printing red. But now I get nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot ! You help me !
Any advice?
It looks like the head cleaning system is jammed. Try rotating the gear as shown at 1:22
I have a c5180 that has been sitting around for a few years.
Veel aan gehad, bedankt!
I didn't had Black color. But after operation I was printing white paper... (I hardly had some blue and yellow after many alignment color/head..). And now, I rechecked but I probably broke the print-head by removing it once again. Were can I buy one?? (exact same printhead for HP C7820)
This video helped a lot. Thanks
I don't see what's wrong, I don't know what to do :( any idea ? thanks !
Hello, make sure that you have installed the two gears shown at 4:51 correctly!
Just watched the video again. Does the little pin on the gear go into the open slot on the print head?
Yes, it goes into the slot so that it can slide in there as it rotates.
lol. love how he just pulls the electric cords out of the green board. warning: I tried to use pliers & broke the cord. you are not to remove the white component attached to the board like I did. love how he made look so easy, but when your inside it, seems more complicated.
Szuper videó. Thank you very much!
+antystein Make sure that your printer is out of warranty before cleaning printhead!
i have the same problem. did u ever get the scanner top removed. i am stumped.. sam 423 381 705one
