I am reading Michael McDonald's memoir titled What a Fool Believes and he mentioned this song and how much he dug it, Ive never heard it before. Its great.

To be honest... The backing vocalists were booked in for the TV performance alone and we only spoke very briefly but they were well seasoned guys and I recognized at least one from The Drifters. More than that I cannot remember.. it was 35 years ago.
Edwin Starr, Voice of Nottingham.
Had the privilege to see this legend in 1971 and was mesmerised by his performance, and have enjoyed listening to this record ever since
Edwin is a killer performer. The range and passion behind that voice. Man!
Still the best live performance I’ve ever seen

Oh what memories of days gone by, Edwin Starr's great voice with superb backing musicians, these sounds will live forever.
I understand Edwin is buried in Wilford cemetery, which is a mile south of Nottingham.
White boy Rick brought me here. I had no idea Edwin Starr sang this oldie but goodie.
What a performance that was!
Love them countrymen! "SOS"...I'm only "25 miles from home".
Miss my baby! August 5,2022❤😢

Drums is what I noticed..
I saw that too.
Awesome, awesome video and performance... hey is that a young Louis Price on the far left singing backups?
Interesting you asked that because I was wondering whether the guy on the right was Freddie Gorman from The Originals!
To be honest... The backing vocalists were booked in for the TV performance alone and we only spoke very briefly but they were well seasoned guys and I recognized at least one from The Drifters. More than that I cannot remember.. it was 35 years ago.
No! That's me "Butch Leake" from The Drifters...
@@BUTCHLEAKE Who were the other two Butch?
Another un-sung diamond! So many hooks...should have been a hit. Usually bad management or lack of support from record co. was culprit.
It was #48 in the US-pop-charts
