Got to say I found this absolutely fascinating! Loved the story about the river as well, they really need to start boat hire there :) Thanks so much for this video, I'm no fan of the heat but really fancy going here!
Just a little note for any travellers in Oz - ALWAYS wear a hat and ALWAYS carry water with you. A fine look around a very interesting part of Australia. Happy travelling.
I've never travelled with my parents as an adult, and now it's too late because my dad has alzheimer's disease and my mum can't leave him alone for days to go travelling. Therefore, watching you and Blair travelling together is just great. It really puts a smile on my face. 🙂
amazing footage. Very endearing that you check in with your son to see if he is having a nice time. It’s a privilege to spend quality time with your dad… sometimes we only realise that when we’re reminiscing. Your a star and it’s admirable the effort put into the vlogs💛
What an awesome trip! On the face of it the itinerary seems quite unusual, but the beauty of Australia is that there's so much to see and do that almost everyone can come up with their own unique adventure and have an amazing trip. Looking forward to seeing the next installment :)
We travelled on The Ghan a few years ago, Alice to Adelaide Gold Class, and it was wonderful! There were some folk climbing on Uluru then (2017?) but it was frowned on. We got up at 4am to see sunrise on Uluru - it was magical! We also had an outdoor evening meal in the bush near Uluru with an astronomer pointing out the wonders of the heavens under beautifully clear night skies. The old Telegraph Station in Alice is worth a visit, too.
Always go out with a hat and preferably Polarised sunglasses. When I told my optician I was going to Australia this year he wagged his finger at me and said get the best sunglasses you can afford preferably polarised as the sun is very damaging to your eyes there because of high UV. So I did! Loving these videos by the way!
Thank you for posting this. I’ve visited Perth and Queensland, and really enjoyed it, but you have saved me the time and expense of visiting Uluru. It really does look commercialised and awful.
I've been lucky to travel all over Australia and the one area I wouldn't recommend is Alice/Uluru. A long, long way for not very much. I principally remember three things about the trip: a visit to the Flying Doctors Clinic in Alice due to an aggressive (suspected spider) bite; poor, drunk Aborigines clustered on the Todd riverbed and the folly of watching people climb Uluru despite the fact that it's a sacred site and doing so was incredibly disrespectful. Looking at the volume of buses now, tourism has exploded rendering the whole experience even more unpleasant.
Whilst I'm never going to get to Australia now, it's great to see how others perceive the country from their travels and I thank you for sharing your trip on this channel. I am enjoying reading your book immensely; so again thanks Scott.
This was a great video guys. I flew to Ulluru from Alice in 1992, and stayed there overnight with yours to Ulluru and the Olga's. It was expensive so you were probably better to take a bus. But it was breathtaking
Yay! I've bought your book to take into hospital with me soon! I need a quiet place to read it uninterrupted. I'll think of you. Love this film, thank you 🎉❤
Great to see more of your trip to Australia especially to Alice Springs Uluru and Lassiters Casino have a great rest of your trip take care and thank Scott and Blair.👋🇬🇧🇦🇺
I'd forgotten about them having left Perth for Europe in 1989. At this year's Bathurst 1000km touring car race Chico sponsored one of the teams. I was wondering if it was the same thing and sure enough it was.
Had three nights in Las Vegas on a business trip (like all paid for). Dragged to one if the casinos. First time. Dime machine. Fourth pull won jackpot! $11,300..
Glad to see you are coming to our great state of WA! You will love Rottnest, dont miss the tramway tour, well worth it. Kings park also a must. All public transport within Perth city linits is free.
OMG Alice Springs is one of my dream travelling destinations, but it is unlikely that I will visit there in near future, mostly because of the cost. Thanks for sharing your experience in here!
Hi Scott. I loved watching your epic 'End to End' journey and I have now bought your much anticipated book on the subject. Thank you for sharing this whole experience with us. 🙏🏼😁
Hi Scott and Blair what another fantastic video of your time in Australia. Uluru Ayres Rock looked so amazing as does Alice Springs. Thank you for making this video.
I loved visiting Uluru! You could still climb it when I visited, but out of respect, I walked around it instead. Took me forever but I did it! Nice to see Alice Springs again too.
Alice Springs definitely on my bucket list of places to see/visit - something about its remoteness I find intriguing. It's interesting how look of Uluru changes as you get closer to it. Quite a trip for both Scott/Blair. Nice win for Blair.
I climbed Uluru back in January 1975, and our group pitched tents in a camping ground nearby. Alot has changed since then , so it was lovely to see it again today. Thankyou
We did the Ghan 3 years ago, can highly recommend it, did North to South, some if the stop off are really good especially the one at midnight to see the stars where we all got of the train to see them, which was fantastic.
About ten years ago I spent a fortnight in Alice Springs, thoroughly liked it, and then cycled from there to Uluru which took about a week. Not an easy ride by any means but the Roadhouses where I stayed were fantastic. In Alice I stayed at the youth hostel, which is an old cinema, and one night they put on Crocodile Dundee. So I can at least say that the first time I saw Crocodile Dundee was in the Northern Territory! Fantastic. Liked your film, by the way!!
Don't go walking the Tod after dark, in fact don't do it at all. Definitely don't walk around town after dark. Alice Springs has become one of the most dangerous towns in Australia now.
Bought and read your book - thoroughly enjoyed it. Always fancied a trip to Alice - in my youth my ambition was to go to Ayer's Rock (as it was then) with a 6-pack of Swan Lager and see the New Year in on top of the Rock.....sadly it never happened, nor will it now.
Hello Scott & Blair!! This was a very interesting episode!! Lots to see "down under." You help me travel the world virtually!! Chuck in Northern New England
Hi Scott, an old friend of mine lived in Alice Springs until fairly recently. She said although it was overall a great place, there was a lot of youth crime and was assaulted a few times herself. Happy to have lived there but ultimately moved elsewhere after a few years.
Just ordered your book Scott. Really looking forward to reading it. I’m in Seattle, was born in Edinburgh, moved to Burnley at age 8, lived there until I moved to Seattle in 1987 after serving 6 yrs in the Para’s!!!! Really enjoy your content, please keep it coming, I really really enjoy your dry sense of humor!!!! See you can see I’m a Yank now, I can’t spell humor anymore 😂 Great video!!! Can’t wait to see you ride the Ghan Train in the future!!! Glad to hear that reprobate didn’t get into your hotel room, Blair woulda chinned him though 🥊👊, the quiet ones are ALWAYS the toughest!!!
Wowed Scott you and your lad are brave to be just walking around the Alice, it has had a number of issues recently. Uluru is a lot further from Alice then most people realise
Thanks for the tour of Alice Springs and area. I always fancied taking the train, but I guess you’ll be flying to Perth. Don’t forget your sun hats and SPF50 cream when out in that sun.
Did the tour back in 2019 just before they closed off the rock for climbing and has a night under the stars which was great as it was a lovely clear crystal night and we could see everything also got some aboriginal art work at the centre. But the 4 hour coach ride to Alice Springs was a long journey.
Our family with another family drove from Peth to Adelaide in the late 60s / early 70s and then onto Melbourne. Our family of five had a For Cortina 440 and the other family (also five) had a VW Combi. At least we could move around a bit in the VW. I took a coach trip from Perth to the Australian F1 race in Adelaide in 1986. It was 36 hours to the Barossa Valley. We stopped for food stops and maybe a comfort break or two. The next year I caught the coach again but flew back.
Cheers for another class video I stayed in Alice springs before departing on a real outback trip.to adelaid it was like a backpackers trip no fancy hotels lol.xxx
I am not surprised you were worn out doing a day trip to the rock. I went there and stayed at sails in the desert. It took almost a day to get there from Alice.
Now in Vienna and just back from Bratislava but not the way you did it by walking. We came back to Vienna by the ferry. Will buy your book when I am back home in a week.
Great to catch the Ghan on its way through, shame it’s so expensive…..hope you do get to cross it off the list…..very similar to the reaction I had when I found out that the Whiskey Train in Scotland was £9100.00 for 4 nights and 5 days….😲👍🇮🇲. PS Book ordered , can’t wait.👍👌🇮🇲
Hope that you get to go on The Ghan in the future. The route that it takes now is different to the route it used to take many years ago. BBC 'Great Railway Journeys Of The World 🌎' took the original route back then in the 80's. Looking forward to your next Aussie adventure.
My word, that looked hot and dry, especially the river! My cousin climbed Ayres Rock when it was still allowed. My favourite bit of film was the two galahs fighting, so funny. Blair will have to treat you to a small refreshment from his winnings, won't you, Blair? PS I have your book, Scott, that was some trip. I love travel books and have just finished it for the second time.
Got to say I found this absolutely fascinating! Loved the story about the river as well, they really need to start boat hire there :) Thanks so much for this video, I'm no fan of the heat but really fancy going here!

@@Im-Brian I am thinking the same. Looked lovely.

Absolutely, sunglasses, hat and water. British people always dress inappropriately for hot countries.
I was there in 85 and climbed it,absolutely terrifying glad I did it !
Thank you for sharing. So nice to be able to share this homecoming with Blair. He is creating his own memories.

It makes me so nervous seeing you walk so close to long grass with all the snakes in remote Australia!
Ah, "she'll be right, mate"!
It was lovely to see you and your son together.
Fun factoid the flight path from Melbourne to Singapore goes over Uluru and is visible on a day time flight (assuming no cloud cover).
Thanks Scott and Blair.

Wow Lassiters Casino I played in a band there in the 80s. 👍🏻
Great video. I must say as an aussie, that you are pretty brave venturing around Alice Springs.
