While I find Dennis Skinner a bit outdated now, he is, and speaking objectively here, one of the more honorable politicians sitting in the Commons. He claims no expenses, well the last time I looked at his expenses record, he pays for all travel etc by himself. He also has one of, if not the best attendance record in the Commons and the best voting record. He really is a dying breed of politician that actually serves their constituents rather than forgetting them to get to the top.

I hated the fact that she loved Britain and gave millions of working
class people like me a leg up to buy my Council property.I was hoping to
get subsidised housing for the rest of my life.
My Family hated her as she ruined the London Print where 6 people did
the job of 1 person and 5 hour Lunch Breaks were Normal. At least the
Owners had no say there, at the time, in who they appointed...the ruddy
CHEEK of them just because they put the money in they wanted a say !! (
can you imagine that bullshit ? )...The Docks were great for thieving
and the GLC ( Greater London Council ) was like a Holiday Camp and she
    closed that down as well.
Flying and supporting Britain was the worst, though.

Dont kid yourself, the heavy industry and manufacturing of the UK would NEVER be able to compete with USA, Chinese and Indian manufacturing. the same goes for mined resources and miners, there would be mass unemployment, all these companies would go out of the business and the entire UK economy would collapse. What she did was future proof Britain by giving us a service economy, something which can compete on the world stage.

    • @TheCookieGamer523
      @TheCookieGamer523 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

NooneLikesDan that's simply not true. If you think the UK was 'paradise' before Thatcher then I suggest you look up the winter of discontent.
If you classify a country where both the lights and heating goes off every night and where rubbish is everywhere in the streets as a paradise, then you have serious problems. Allow me to put it simply. When she came into office the country was in decline and when she left it no longer was.
To say it only benefitted the rich is absolutely absurd and makes you look like an idiot who has no idea what he's talking about.

    According to Ernst & Young:
The biggest UK companies are sitting-on a sum of £750bn that was amassed under the present tax regime. So their problem is something other than a lack of cash. Their unwillingness to invest is more likely their realisation of their prospective customers lack of cash due to the very high rates of personnel debt accrued during the past 30 years [the seed of which being Thatch's Big-Bang financial deregulation of the financial sector - 1986].

Q: How difficult is it to resist editing the comments on "your" threads so as to promote your opinion rather than to facilitate an frank & lively exchange of views??

ON THE ISSUE OF WHETHER THATCH WOULD HAVE LET THE BANKS FAIL:
For the banks who'd become "too-big-to-fail" to have been allowed to fail; it would have required the monies held by their retail customers to have been protected by gov't whilst the banks bond-holders took the hit. Only this would have prevented a catastrophic run on ALL the banks.

some things will always have to be subsidized by the govt.
however the free market should be allowed to exist as far as possible.
lets take trains as an example..... in order to get the price of a ticket down u need competition. there is no competition. why is that? because anyone starting a new rival bus or track or airport has to compete with a giant system that cannot run out of other peoples money.
yes private companies are not perfect. at least they have to compete.

i actually have no problem in subsidizing trains and other forms of transport. yes in some areas traffic on roads is so bad that trains are needed.
but please do not kid yourself too much. many trains still run on diesel.... but lets just pretend that its all electric for a second. that power still has to be generated and by far the most used method is burning fuel.
there will be many train journeys that per person use more fuel than a person in a car.

And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It's our duty to look after ourselves and then, also to look after our neighbour.
