Phenomenal Game and Great Story in my opinion. But, we all knew it wasn't realistically gonna win GOTY last year. But it was definitely a top 3 game. Good review too btw.

The story was really bad, especially the third act. They took a very personal Spider-Man villain (venom) and made his motivations completely impersonal to Spider-Man. They made kraven continuously show up on screen to scowl at people then leave with no direct Spider-Man interaction. Multiple times Spider-Man had a direct line of sight on kraven who is a literal terrorist and just let him go. Kravens motivations were also completely weak, just “wanting to find an equal to kill him” with little reason. Kraven spent time and money to figure out each villain so he could surprise attack and cheaply kill them but with Spider-Man he just straight up fought him? Makes absolutely no sense. Also, why did kraven ignore fighting Spider-Man until near the end when he was looking for an equal the whole time- but chose instead to fight everyone that SPIDER-MAN HAS ALREADY BEATEN MULTIPLE TIMES. Spider-Man was the obvious choice in the first place. The symbiotes taking over the city concept is not only overdone but doesn’t match the character of venom whatsoever, they should’ve done a more personal plot between Peter and venom. They built up the betrayal plot between Harry and Peter the whole game, made Harry start to hate Peter, made Peter reject the symbiote- made Harry get the symbiote through his pure rage against Peter- only to FORGIVE PETER AND WANT HIM TO JOIN HIM INSTANTLY??????
I think ur right about some of the problems the game has, and using those to generalize the whole story as bad. Up until Venom is introduced the story is great. Kravens motivation is perfectly in line with his character, and he does lure Peter into the arena like he does with all the villains. Also I can’t think of a time when Peter let Kraven go without reason, normally because there were civilians in danger, or because Connors needed the cure, both of which were more important than stopping Kraven in that moment. However, you are completely right about the critique of Venom. And while the symbiote invasion makes for fun gameplay, it definitely doesn’t fit Venom’s character for him to be the one leading it. I feel like they should have saved that for if they make a Venom game, and have Venom fighting through a symbiote city. Also Miles is way too underutilized when he’s supposed to be the co-protagonist.

They should’ve had a small boss fight in the church at least because why did they just talk? Kraven literally at that point blew up a mega boat carrier, lit the east harbour on fire, kidnapped and murdered multiple people, and had direct intentions to kill dr Connor’s who Spider-Man needed to remove the black suit. If Peter stopped kraven it would’ve saved doc without even needing to cure him first- curing him first just lets kraven kidnap him again and then kill him- which I don’t get why kraven didn’t do. Nothing could be a greater priority than stopping Kraven at the time. it also still makes no sense that he would go for Spider-Man last instead of first because Spider-Man was clearly the most superior opponent compared to all of those villains. Kraven literally just started having the villains fight eachother to find out who the most superior one is when he literally could’ve gone straight to Spider-Man and SHOULD HAVE. That’s what he does in 99% of all other comic adaptations of him. and as I said; with his other direct kills he cleverly devised a plan to kill them. With scorpion he found out how to pierce his suit, with electro he must’ve thought of something too since electro is basically immune to any physical attack. why didn’t he plan anything other than using his bare hands against Spider-Man? And yeah they totally underused miles, it’s really sad tbh. Hopefully he gets more light next time.
Agreed, the part with kraken was pretty good. The issue with kraken is, a lot of his story was discussed through my investigations, such as reading about why he's doing what he's doing....."show, don't tell." Major parts of the game such as miles and venom, almost seem pretty insignificant, even tho we're told.how important they are, but it doesn't feel that way cause we had little time when concerning them. Personally, had they focused more on the characters and stories we wanted to see, instead of them forcing nonsense like Mary Jane and her existential crisis over wanting to be more popular than spiderman.....then maybe the story might've been more well put together.
The gameplay is fun, traversal could've been much more like Web of Shadows (best web swing traversal, way better than SM2). And the combat is much more challenging, I'm not a fan of parrying here but after Bloodborne and Sekiro this isn't as challenging... On the other side the story, world building and character development is... Not great. Something is wrong with Peter that he is in the need to be rescued a lot by his less experienced sidekick... -MJ is annoying and uglified. Also she betrayed Peter. -Miles contributes very little to the story. -Rio Morales is more concerned about music instruments than Mr. Negative out of jail. -Hailey is forced to be playable and also uglified. -Norman Osborn is the most concerned and caring evil father. -Where is the police? -If Kraven is the best hunter why does he need an army? -Danika and Gankee are extremely annoying. Ufffff... There is so much more but I'm getting angry with SBI and Bryan Intihar...

It socks as well as like the end like how come anti venom can't just cure Harry or how come Peter can't just take it off and make anti agent venom for Harry and the killing of Peter's rogues gallery I feel like some things just wasn't Don well or was flat out bad ideas
Me personally, I think it did, all of the big 3 contenders both had there flaws, tears of the kingdom was way too long and boring, and baldurs gate 3 is straight dogshit. People just say that the story sucked because it's not as good as the first one

Everyone don’t seem to realize that the first game doesn’t receive any awards either.
That's to be expected though since it was also going up against RDR2 and GOW, but atleast one award should've been given to it
