Dr. Rugenstein, any idea how to find a list of names from the past in the Mohawk area? Specifically, Helmer as the last name. It was around the 1740’s through the 1750’s. I live in South Dakota in the middle of all the Reservations. I show up as Native American but a small part. My wife is a Professional Genealogist and she has traced it back to that era. We have hit a road block. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. If you ever head out to the Dakotas, we could show you around to the different Reservations.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. A quick look I found that Helmer family is from Quebec so I would check with this reservation to start - www.akwesasne.ca/
Fantastic.. Thank you for sharing.. I hope you can make one in the summertime as well :) I have wanted to see the place for years... I never knew who my grandafter was - but was given some leads before my father passed away..They came with a western show to Scandinavia.. So i have looked and found the only Native Americans that came over to Norway and Sweden at that time - was a group of native people from the Mohawk tribe. I also had a very strange experience in a dream where a old Native Man appeared - and told me to find a circle of stones.. 9 stones if i remember right - he said his name that later turned out to be the name of a Mohawk man that lived around 1900.. So after that and DNA testing and some more digging it looks like i am Mohawk on my gradfathers side.. Would LOVE to go there one day to see if i can find any relatives.

@@goymedhundDogtrainingBehavior Hi, as for genealogy there are a number of Mohawk reservation on the US and Canadian side of the border. good job man i grew up here in canton new York i was born in Ogdensburg and I've fought a few addictions and i have an extensive past however the reservation has had some huge impact on this area and myself as an individual now that marijuana is legal and we can access it thru the reservation at 100 an oz is a steal is some cases because what a year or so ago we were having to get it third party from dealers for no less than 200 an oz and this stuff they got out on the rez is fantastic with paperwork for all its product and its amazing i love it i go out there once a week.
New Sub! Stoked to find this video:’) Just found out that my distant ancestor was born on the Rivère aux Saumons, north of Dundee ~ do you know the First Nations name of that specfic River?
The reduction from two lanes to one lane had nothing to do with the uprising. The twin overpass bridges adjacent to the Grasse River both needed rehabilitation. NYS decided it was cheaper to reduce to one lane therefore they would only have to rehab one bridge. There was always only one lane on the reserve. It only split to two lanes on NYS property.
@@The_Cultural_Historian_DrRGST I really enjoyed the video. I've worked for the Tribe for almost 18 years now and I travel from Massena to Ionkwakiohkwaró:ron daily via 37
While on the reservation, you can take a left on St. Regis road, travel a couple of minutes and you'll be in St Regis Quebec. However, you'll be landlocked. You'd have to go backward and cross the bridge to Cornwall Island and pass through customs before you can get to mainland Canada
well since you are a non-resident, you should have reported to the Customs and informed them are intend to go to the Quebec side. If you got pulled over by police they would most likely ask you if you reported to CBSA. Please report to customs next time if you intend to travel to any part of the Quebec portion of the reserve.
