      Matthew Wolfe I've been extremely impressed with my mavic mini only had it for a week now but I live RIGHT on the beach so if I wait for no wind I'll never be able to fly..so I've just been learning how to deal with it and it's done great with wind for me so far! Up to 15-25 mph winds in sport mode no prob! The visual got a lil fuzzy and skipped once but was for a split second and came right back on! Great drone for first timers (IMO)..but if you normally end up buying aftermarket parts for other things you might out grow this drone really wuick

    Based partly on your enjoyable & informative videos I've bought the "Fly More" combo & I'm very pleased with it. One thing I do know is that when wind blows around any object such as a building (or even a person for that matter), when it "meets up again" on the other side of it there will be a bit of natural turbulence as it coalesces & a small zone where the wind speed will actually fluctuate wildly & even increase. So when you walk around any drone in such high winds (presenting us with a sweet view of the drone trying to cope), keep this phenomena in mind because the drone may suddenly lurch forward directly at you when you're upwind creating this spot of artificial turbulence & while seeing you have to dance about (& perhaps even perform a quick dirt dive) might be entertaining, I've certainly no desire to see you (or your drone) injured in any way. Thanks again for your Mavic Mini videos.

    First, I want to say thank you for doing the test, with your drone, to help prepare the rest of us, as to what the drone can do in this environment. So helpful. But, I'm sure there are many others who watched this video, and you made a few comments as to whether the video would look ok, well as I'm watching this video, I was in awe, as to how well that 3 axis gimbel held such an incredible steady shot, that was amazing. The camera systems on dji, especially a $400.00 dollar drone, held up, under intense winds. Thank you for your time, and sharing such great information for the rest of us.

    I'm a storm chaser and plan on using this drone to take some storm photography. I am amazed that this little 249g drone can handle itself in winds 20-30mph! Granted, flying in these kind of conditions is not the smartest, but when in range of a supercell or any other type of intense storm, these conditions will likely be unavoidable. I was in the Big Bend area of Texas (basically middle of nowhere) this past weekend and the wind was a steady 20ish mph. I made the mistake of flying downwind and my mini didn't have enough power to fly back home against the wind. I put the drone in sport mode and even with full stick it was drifting further and further away. I had to think fast... I dropped altitude until I could get some lateral movement and was able to fly it close to the one and only road for miles and land. I hopped on my motorcycle and found the drone over two miles away. So yeah... there is definitely a point where the mini will become a kite and will fly away.

Today I accidentally flew it into some tree branches because I lost sight of it behind another tree. I lost sight and simply let go of the sticks and walked over to where it was without looking at my fpv. It was hovering perfectly still between the branches! I just backed it out and kept flying!! Really good product for the money! Thanks again for the vids!!

      I don't understand why the weight should make a difference. Ground speed is just air speed minus wind speed. You just need your maximum air speed to be significantly higher than the wind speed. That's true no matter the weight of your aircraft.

    • @billsomrak
      @billsomrak 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobFisherUK So, apparently, you're of the opinion that its just as safe to fly a Piper J3 Cub in 30 mph winds, as it is to flying a Boeing 747 in 30 mph winds. They both have maximum speeds higher than 30 mph. FWIW, I've flown in light aircraft & commercial aircraft in 'winds'. Riding in the former is like riding a bucking bronco compared to the latter.

    I live in the Land of Entrapment and we get nasty winds. Seeing this kind of tells me what my next drone purchase will be. Thank you. I'll look to see how it handles the indoor flying on a different video.

    Would love to see side by side with the spark with the strong winds. Do you recommend someone upgrading to the mavic mini from the spark ?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      For the better 2.7k cam and great video stability / flight time I'd upgrade but you lose some app functions and sensors the spark has.

    • @098Chris
      @098Chris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yeah the cam and flight time is sooooooooooo good, and the portability is huge for me. I hope they update the app to bring some of the features over. I don't care about the sensors really, and they don't have any *real* bearing on some of the follow features, but I bet DJI will keep it somewhat crippled.

      @@098Chris Try flying the Spark with the sensors off, it is much more fun. I'd only leave the sensors on when I knew I was going to be flying near obstacles. I was planning on buying the Parrot Anafi and I was worried about having no sensors so I tried switching them off. It was five months later before I ever switched them back on. The speed difference is amazing, it flies almost as fast as in sports mode but without that "has it just broken its neck?" panic.

      @@MartinWillett i never used the sensors on the spark, they are a total waste.

    For a super light weight drone, the video is very steady. I think the mini is a fantastic deal for $399. Great Drone.

    The Mini is an Ultra Light drone and not safe to fly in winds over 10 MPH. If you fly it in 15 MPH winds and you buzz around so much you end up with the drone downwind the likelihood of a gust pushing the drone out of range of a RTH maneuver is actually pretty high. A lot of people have lose their Mini because TH-cam content providers seem to be marketing the drone to flyers that should be using a Mavic Air.
    The Mini switches to P mode (18mph) when it goes to RTH and by the time newbies can get control it is already so far downwind they can't do anything about it.
    I'm very glad to hear you tell people to fly into the wind on windy days. But 15 MPH winds are too much for the Mini, the limit should be 10.
    A newbie would have lost a drone trying to do what you did here.

    Think the smaller form factor is the future. Minimal damage if you crash and no one will report what they can't see!
