    Pale Communion is the album where "new Opeth" really started kicking into gear, this is one of the songs that made me properly start liking their new direction, as big a fan as I am of the death metal Opeth as well. From the kings of progressive death metal to noveau royalty in classic prog rock!
    Edit: Really should highlight the rhythm section of Martin Axenrot on the drums and Martín Méndez on the bass, what a goddamn power duo for most of Opeth's modern discography!

    • @ParallelusReflection
      @ParallelusReflection ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here!! I was listening to the album on headphones under a star-lit night sky, feeling quite poetic. And then, when this track kicked in, I was like "holy mother of 'all that is majestic'! this song (among this album's other very good tracks) has that spark!!! the kind that sealed my heart upon the altar of creative progressive masterworking!! The mojo! The poetry! Hell yeah, the city of the Moon is having a concert once more in the halls of cosmic storytelling!
      Opeth liveth! Long live Opeth!

    It's such a shame that Opeth is not a much bigger band. The quality of their music is just so next level. They deserve to be a household name on the same tier as The Beatles. They may not do anything "new" in terms of composition but what they do is done so well and carefully put together.

    • @progperljungman8218
      @progperljungman8218 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      People who know who Opeth are. Revere Opeth. They almost fear having to play after them if they are touring with them as it is nearly impossible to follow them. Their fans are there to see them and they are purists about SOUND and while they won't walk out on the following bands, they will critique their every move.

    That abrupt turnaround that reminded you of Yes reminded me of something Mikael Akerfeldt said in an interview about the Metallica instrumental "To Live is to Die." He said Opeth wouldn't exist without that song, and he points to the super abrupt heavy-to-soft switch that occurs in that song, which is partly what Opeth is known for these days.
