Opeth is a rare example of modern days "free to go anywhere" band, when you can not predict what will they do in the next album. Not only they are great musicians, but they have that power to "surprise" in a good way. I hope you do more reactions to this band as you sure will enjoy that ride - Opeth never disappoints.

One of the best songs in the Opeth catalogue.

Yes!, or Opeth - do not bother you with their Prog approach because they give you enough time to fall in the groove and feel the taste of their changing musical fragments. Bands who do not let you get used to the groove and change their key, timing, melodies too fast - do not let you feel comfortable and really feel the Music, they cut out your Emotional response and leave only Intellectual response. Intellectually you understand that they do something complex, but without Emotional connection it feels empty and hollow. So, cheers, to discover such great bands as Yes or Opeth as they do let you connect emotionally with their super complicated song strutures.

This was my first reaction when I first heard it as well. But the more I listened to it the more I appreciated it, and now it’s one of my favorite prog song of theirs. There’s a song on the album that’s more emotional and more consistent as far as tempo. It’s called faith in others, and it’s another top song on this album with top notch and heartfelt lyrics.

Love this song & album. I really wish they’d play this song live. There are a lot of good songs on the Pale Communion album that i don’t understand why they don’t play live.

They actually play it in their recent european tour setlist. I was there in Plovdiv and couldn't believe my ears. Some other deep cuts as well - they also played Nepenthe and The Lotus Eater. Very unfortunate this tour didn't get a professional recording like the Red Rocks one, but you can find fan recordings on youtube.

They played it live when I saw them twice back to back in feb 2020 in nyc. Loved it!

Cute kids. Moon above sun below is a song that takes a few listens to really get. That being said it’s one of the best songs on the album, a prog masterpiece.

I do wonder how you two would feel about their softer ballads.. Benighted, Harvest... Or anything out of their album Damnation... For vin it won't be too long, lyrically incredible and emotional, musically brilliant..

    It's good, but highly forgettable.
    Sorry, but I'm a 2001 - 2008 Opeth fan.
This isn't heavy enough, and the growls are gone.
If I wanted to hear Yes, or Jethro Tull, I'll listen to Yes and Jethro Tull.
    Sorry Mike.

You don't like progressive metal when you don't like the most influential Progressive metal band of all time. He likes Tool, either that or he likes the T-shirts.
