I completely agree with your statement at the end, if I can't beat the monster solo it feels like I didn't beat the monster. And I refuse to join sos flares until I have crafted the full armour set for the monster which I find is enough experience solo to begin helping others on sos flares
you know what, been rather bored ever since fatalis became a push-over. Might join your community challenge and help some of the community through their hurdles.
i remember while is was still trying to farm fatalis i joined a sos flare where some guy just tried to sit at camp the whole hunt once everybody realized we all just left
Yeah personally i dont get what the other player gets out of it by afking, well other than loot at the end. They'll never learn by doing it but i gues ssome people dont care
i had a similar situation also , joined a SOS where we had to hunt 5 monster and when i got there it was absolute chaos , the host was afk , a another dude was exploring and the third one was trying to carry , good thing the third guy had safi weapon to deal the host left close to the end , same for the second guy and we manage to complete the quest with 40 sec left , to finish that , the game crashed right after so i couldnt even et the xp-material from the quest :(
The community took such a hit when MH went mainstream and I hope things het better as the fortnite kids mature a bit in their mh career. So many salty little assholes being, well, assholes in the rando world
Usually i'd call out the afk player to join the hunt, whether they'll fuck up the hunt or not And i've also encountered my fair share of people using shitty equipments with wide range & free meal just running around and healing without dealing any damage to the monster whatsoever, doing that is actually only making the hunt harder because of the monster hp will be bloated because of multiplayer hunt
This shit pisses me off. I came across this one guy that keeps joining my SOS and then leaves immediately after carting 1 to 2 times leaving us 3 hunters having only 1 remaining try.
Hilarious, would take notes soloing fatalis instead of SoS.I tried SoS alatreon to progress but I finished alatreon by myself, So hard seeing people joining with the status/dragon weapons, just to get instacarted because you cant elemntal topple Aatreon
I tried to solo fatalis it didn’t work out very well but I have completed it many times in a group of four. Best tips for beating this thing if u r calling SOS is to use a light bowgun with Status ammo like Sleep, para and poison.
@@godz4681 im not gonna SoS fatalis as I feared it would just be frustrating and shameful for me to rely on others, the only time I had SoS is alatreon because I didnt knew what element to bring, reading guides helped me well and I can confidently take him down
@@SicklyShogun U dont very high chance of completing this quest with SOS even if u r pretty decent at the game and can stay alive because the people who join will faint all over the place most of the time. Best way to beat him is group of Four with an LBG status user or 2 players that knows wat they r doing(I have done this before playing spread LBG with a Lance tank).
Recently got my first Fatalis kill, but along the way I ran into some players who answered my SOS flare and were apparently upset with my low DPS and the fact that I died in phase 1... Wish more people understood the concept of being new to something like you do.
They're responding to an SOS call so that means they're supposed to help the person not be mad at them. I wish they had the least amount of common sense.
bruh how are you gona be mad at someone dps in the non competitive quest lmao. nah people like that exist in every multiplayer game just ignore them the monster hunter community is alot more accepting then that and the ones that obsess about dps are just people who think that having enough dps will make their father come back
@@diveblock2058just avoid pre-world's communities, they will non-stop talk about how world and rise are somehow the worst ever and even outright harass people for simply liking changes that world introduced that IMO are great QOL features such as the scout flies and unlimited whetstones
@@diveblock2058 tell that to Twitter and most content creators discord servers, aka the only places to try and find anyone to hunt with aside from SOS in world. Just started into iceborn and the sos flare makes the fights so much more bearable. Also the multiplayer shenanigans are keeping the game fresh. Yesterday a hammer player hit me with his golf swing that send me flying which led me to mounting the nargacuga we were hunting.
But the solo experience is where monster hunter truly shines. It forces you to take your time and learn the monster, instead of letting three other MR 100+ guys do all the heavy lifting. The feeling of finally defeating a monster after some failed attempts is something that can’t be felt when you’re being carried.
@@MistikCoweird gatekeeping my guy. Whilst I agree that having high level hunters join and carry you through a fight, where MH really shines is with a party of people around the same skill and equipment level. It is a co-op game primarily. It's on the high rank hunters for joining an urgent quest of a low ranker. I know this BC after you get to the end game I enjoy the game even more, BC every body is around the same skill level and has the same level of gear, so fights take an appropriate amount of time
@@JackdotC And how exactly was that statement gatekeeping? I never said they weren't a real hunter if they don't play solo, I merely stated what they were missing out on by going down the route they choosing. If they enjoy how they are currently going about it, that's fine, however you can't argue that the excitment that one feels after overcoming a massive obstacle by themselves is the same as overcoming that same obstacle with three other random people, making the obstacle less challenging overall. Also, even at endgame, which is after the main story, there is still a decent discrepancy in skill between hunters. A prime example is how I can usually predict how a Fade To Black(Fatalis event quest) will go the second I respond to an SOS and look at the MR of the people in it.
@@MistikCoagreed, usually if players have a yellow name, i trust them, but everyone messes up sometimes, idk how he thought you were gatekeeping either lol
The real curse of the SOS flare is killing the experience of doing multiple hunts with the same group of randoms repeatedly. World was the loneliest I've ever felt playing a MonHun game, and that's despite me having a dedicated group of friends to play with frequently.
I don't play world but I share the sentiment from Rise, long gone are the days of newbs entering a high rank lobby asking for help, well you see it from time to time but it's much less common now and overall it feels harder to find a consistent party of 3/4 before getting to the end-game as compared to MH 3/4
@@Punkqurupeco In all fairness, I remember back when 4U was still relatively new, and it's where I did most of my online play, but it seemed like the vast majority of people wouldn't help newbies, roasted anyone that didn't run the meta equipment, and were all around unfriendly and quick to ditch the lobby for any reason. I can't remember a single time in 4U where I was able to get in a lobby with even one person staying for more than one quest. Frankly, it's part of why I ended up soloing nearly all of the MP quests (well, I also finished all the single player stuff and wanted more stuff to do. I learned that Fatalis with SnS solo when scaled for four players is brutal).
You’ve inspired me. My favorite monster in the entire series is Rajang, and I also adore his Furious Variant. But I also know many players struggle with Furious and end up quitting the hunt entirely after several deaths. I’ll make it my goal to use my expertise with Furious to assist players in defeating him so that they can feel the same satisfaction I did when I got my first Furious kill
was getting my but kicked by furious Rajang earlier today. It feels like it's just his move where he jumps in the air and shoots a bunch of balls of lightning that explode twice that is messing me up. Advice?
@@jacobpinson2834 ok so first its hard to say without knowing your weapon but basics are ice is his weakness and weapons that do high stun damage destroy him. if you want to embarrass him then bring one level of tremor resistance easiest attack to doge is his slam it looks intimidating but rolling away once will completely invalidate it and give you some down time he then might follow that up with a change in which case just roll towards him and you shouldnt take any damage if he jumps and plants his hand in the ground you can either roll past that or literally just walk around it most of the time you dont even need to doge it if he does his 4 piece combo then that can be doged by just going under his armpit most of the time (or if you are good at positioning just walk around him) if he jumps in the air and does a frontflip down to you, you can avoid damage either by rolling or just walking he likes to follow this up with a arm plant and then a slam if he ever jumps and does the shooting attack that explode if you roll once towards him you will be right at his face (be careful in enraged since the downtime this gives you is a bit lower) and lastly the slam attack where he creates cracks can be avoided in two ways either he does it close to you and you just go to his right or he does it far and you go between the gaps sorry if its not detailed enough but if you tell me your weapon i can see if i can give a more in depth breakdown
I just found this video after struggling for HOURS last night on alatreon, i was posting Sos after Sos, and I had an average fight time of 3 mins. This has rekindled my determination to beat this fight, and im gonna try more after work today! Thank you for this video. Fingers crossed, i get my first completion tonight!
Check out the Kjarr weapons when KT comes back this weekend(?). The elemental damage they do is insane and can trivialize the elemental topple mechanic depending on the weapon type.
@ZennyHunter ,he is dead, I got the dragonsphire first run, too! (I have all the materials to upgrade the dark claw to its rarity 12 form.) Thank you for this video!
@@IsaacG97I ended up using the safi iceblade with upgraded elemental damage, will definitely go for kluve weapons this weekend tho, I only fought him once mid high rank, so I never got his rewards
I'm playing Iceborne for the first time with a friend since the end of December, we've just defeated the Ebony Odogaron and the Acid Glavenus (don't play in english so don't know if that's their name in english) and having a blast so far. I have a full-time job and I'm studying a master's degree at the same time and have to babysit my siblings quite often so I don't have much free time, so I appreciate all the help I can get when I play and it doesn't reduce the enjoyment at all, which is what games were made for. Thanks to all the people that join SOS quests!
I also started out as someone who got carried through the Fatalis Special Assignment, four years ago. I played very poorly from my perspective today, I remember that two of the three SOS players even abandoned the quest within the first 5 minutes. However, the one player who remained carried me all the way through, I was so impressed that I had even uploaded that run to pay respect. Nowadays I've beaten dozens of Alatreon and Fatalis in SOS myself. I sometimes wonder if that other player still plays the game today.
This was very wholesome :D I’m happy you could help some of these players out - especially if they had been failing to kill the creature again and again. That must be incredibly frustrating… and then sooooo satisfying when they finally beat it, thanks to you guys!
Tbh, if Im farming investigations for decorations or monsters in the guiding lands I usually send SOS flares. We all know we are there not because I need help but to get the juicy loot fast. I know thats not the intended way of using the SOS flare but it always feels good when a player doing a high reward investigation or with a max level in one of the biomes of guiding lands send a flare, it really helps the grinding. Also, feels good to play repeted monsters with other people, first time I always want to solo them for the experience (except cases like behemoth, kulve or safi) but after that is always more fun doing them with more people around, even if they make you fail sometimes.
To be honest I feel like most players use SOS in this way and theres nothing wrong with that, the players that join likely already know thats whats going on anyway
Same here. I am not going into tempered teostra for the 1000th time solo... I just wanna have someone around to play with so it's not mind numbingly boring ( and often times its faster to do it in a group)
But to be honest, they should make the dps check a bit easier,i was FORCED to beat Alatreon with Kulve Taroth weapon(Due to having crit element,i can't do it with regular element weapons),so i gotta endure rng shits before even hunt Alatreon, its bullshit
I like to find hunts where its past the 10 minute mark and theres still one person in it. even if the monster is almost dead I want to go in and help newer players on those really hard hunts nobody else wants to join. its a good way for me to learn a new weapon and help a newer or struggling player
i noticed that almost no hunt fails due to lack of damage. people get greedy trying to get their dps in and cart in an unlucky spot. so i try to help them with dust of life and wide range. keeping your fellow hunters alive is more important to success than than that perfect tcs just before the quest fails
Great video, i tried to help people with fatalis when i still hadnt killed him, it ended up being around 60 attempts by the time i was able to beat it. During the many tries the latter half of the attempts i never died and understood the "annoyance" of seeing a singular person take many carts. Immediately after beating him for the first time and being able to do the event quest i was able to beat him three times consecutive times with others who have also beat him.
As a verteran MH player since MHG(2005), I don't really see it as a problem. I actually enjoy party member getting carted or the quest failing because I see it as a learning experiences for them. Everyone was there at some point. If I do need the run to not fail, I just run solo. Besides, SOS flare is not mandatory anyway. I am afraid the minmaxing mentality is ruining the experience for players. A game with no fail is just a boring power-fantasy.
Definitely. I have no issue with people carting. Even back in the PS2 online days Monster Hunter wasn't an easy game and people learn at different paces. I'm always more than happy to be patient with them.
So instant sub for me and heres why: I had the privlege of Playing the Wilds Demo at Twitchcon this year. It was my first experience ever with a Monster Hunter title. I fell in love so hard and so fast, I came home, bought World and Iceborne and began my journey into my first ever Monster Hunter title. What attracted me wasn't Doshaguma, or even the weapons. It was that 4 complete strangers got put in a room, told what they were hunting and went about it. The sense of accomplishment and pride that we just took down a beast was addicting. Yesterday I got my first Alatreon clear with friends. Im now MR 119, and im running the Brachy LS Build. I have a journey ahead of me before I face Fatalis for the first time but what you said toward the end stuck up. You may prefer to play solo, but you're not toxic and say 'guh thats not a real victory, do it solo' a kill is a kill. Doing it with community just makes it better. Happy I found this channel. Cheers from the US.
That's an amazing story, I'm sure I speak for the whole community when I say It's great to welcome you in! Yeah a lot of people gate-keep other players according to their own personal sense of approach, like how the soulslike community *can* (not always of course) be condesending to players who opt to using summons for example. The MH community is the best out of all the games I've played in my personal opinion, I started in World also and witnessed first hand how willing they are to help new hunters - I suppose now im an "experienced" player I want to pay it forward too, maybe you will end up doing the same in wilds :) Happy to have you here mate, thanks so much for subbing!
Sometimes SOS flares are an enjoyable way to watch other people play and show off their skills. There are those who demonstrates to you how to absolutely destroy a dragon, those who share the same braincell as you, those who plays the support role in helping everyone get through the hurdle. That said, there are of course people who leechs, and makes the fight much more unbearable than it has to be, but those are the few bad apples inbetween. I do agree with the solo win first, before you ask for help, or help others, though there is no shame in needing help either ways.
One problem is that SOS replaces the "I wanna join a quest but my session group sucks" button. There are no alternatives for "randoms" or a cross session join feature other than SOS.
That darn fatalis flame he does that fans out has carted me way more than I want to admit. But once I beat him, it was such a cathartic experience. Add; I now occasionally join people doing the special assignment just to help out, he can be such a pain but having someone focus on the things no one else will i.e doing the seige weapons, or keeping tenderizes up, it always feels great when they thank you and dance around. Had one poor guy that had spent 3 days fighting him, and we beat him for his first time.
At 7:50, while the player might not have made it to the gate, you can hold down the button for the lever. You'll grab onto the lever but you won't pull it until you let go of the button, making it easier to time these moments.
The singular quest that gets me the most thanks for joining on SOS is highrank nergigante. There also seem to be always hr nergigante SOS at all times of day in my region
4:55 i’ve been doing this for like 2 1/2 weeks now it’s one of the most satisfying things to help someone do something that they’ve been stuck on for God knows how long but even better when they start asking advice on how to be better at the game.
About Alatreon, just yesterday, I joined a SOS sent by a player that was properly built for the quest. But then 2 hunters joined with non elemental weapons... We had a really hard time covering the elemental damage. Another issue, was that we only had 1 cart, but only me and the dual blades guy were constantly hitting the monster, so we almost went through the third ultimate... At least guys seems to be happy with the win.
I enjoyed your vid and wish more players would watch it to learn from your experience. That said, I do think there's one part of your assertion that may be discounting one important aspect of SOS - My experience is that it's most commonly used to just let other players hunt for mats, even in more end-game dlc hunts. When I'm farming for parts, I fire the SOS first thing not because I need help, but in case other hunters need the materials from the hunt. Anyway, keep up the good work!
When doing a good handful of sos quests for some of the late iceborne monsters that aren't quite black dragon tier like rajang and raging brachy I noticed most often that the people causing carts and wipes were the other randoms joining on sos, at most the host would cart once. Although this does actually give to me context for why they made the dlc monsters have separate quests for once killed vs first kills, if you want to use sos to ranodm matchmake multiplayer for farming if you think multiplayer is comfier, you'd join the post kill quests so there's a clear marker for who is expected to be struggling and need help vs who wants to collaborate on easier farming together.
I've been playing Lance and now killed everything except Arch Tempered Vek, so now I've made a Hunting Horn build with Fatalis and plan on just joining SOS' to help others
I was trying to farm Fatalis and I joined a hunt with some pro players but at the 2nd phase we were on our last faint and I was pretty anxious since I was the one who always gets low health instantly, I usually bring a farcaster to restock but I was like "Should I stay up here and let them kill Fatalis?" knowing Ill most likely die but I decided to go down there. Long story short I died and we failed the quest
I have personally used SOS Flares in only 2 situations: -To get the trophy for firing one. -To let a friend join an expedition I was on. I’m glad they’re there for people that need them, though I do hate joining a lobby and seeing the one quest that’s posted being filled entirely with SOS responders.
Also dude you should test AT Velkhana SOS Flare, ESPECIALLY if the person asking is ranged. AT Velkhana is literally impossible in groups sometimes, even worse than Fatalis. Solo AT Velkhana is easy as hell imo but man in a group he likes to 1 shot everyone who isn't close
The advice of how to use the SOS itself is honestly insightful. I felt that firing a SOS without first looking for someone else's might be a bit selfish, but I'm definitely one who might struggle. I've been most contemplating SOS as I struggle against AT Nergigante.
im a recent MH player (started with World as my first and about 250 hrs in) Tbh, Alatreon and Fatalis was quite hard when i got to it especially when my equipment wasn't up to date and my LS skills weren't really on par. The friends who invited me to play MH:Iceborne even hated Alatreon and refused to help me fight it, so i had to kill it myself. Same with fatalis too. Dozens of carts and SOS calls later with strangers i managed to get past both. However, during my first Fatalis clear, a SWAXE player with overlay commented at the end of the hunt that I did only 16% of the damage of the entire hunt. That made me extremely mad so now with both drags cleared and new equipment, i learnt to get better and started learning new weapons, and made sure i knew fatalis in and out just out of spite lol. it probably took me a month or two before im now helping people clear their alatreons and fatalis in special assignment because seeing people clear it for the first time is a good confidence boost and is really sometimes their only obstruction just like mine.
I dunno, I don't use sos flares as a clutch but rather because I enjoy playing with randoms. Be it joining or using one myself. I can solo just fine. I just enjoy playing with others.
Agreed, I find it lovely to join random hunts in all the Mon Hun games I've played. From helping new hunters through MSQ, helping new hunters plan their progression builds, and vibing with veteran hunters have given me the most joy within the last decade!
Back when i was in high rank,i tryed to solo a toaster and after dying 2 times in a row(vitawasp res and feline skill to not count first death)i called for help , and i got matched with a Guardian armor noob that died 3 times in a row trying to use a bow thus ruining my run that i mostly did in solo 🤦🏿♂️
Personally i didn't interact much with sos as i was interested in the solo/friend experience, but after finishing the game and becoming very familiar with most monsters i did take the time to join sos just to help out folks. I've carted (even multi-carted) as an sos helper, it just happens sometimes, but by and large the experience that i had while helping others was often that the people joining were very competent and wouldn't mind the host carting or playing poorly.
I like the SOS mechanic, I hope they bring it back in Wilds. For the most part, I agree with everything you've said about them, and the idea of not joining unless you're confident you can help is a big big thing folks often times ignore. But that's alright.
I love the sos flare its always fun seeing the absolute madhouse it is, i was doing shara ishvalda for the first time and called for sos and it took like 15 minutes to get to phase 2 with out people dying, did it solo and i finished the quest so much faster with no deaths
i really enjoy helping others, its probably the biggest source of enjoyment i have from mhw right now. cant remember the last time i started a solo quest!
great video! I can confidently solo fatalis by now but the fight is so much harder in multiplayer for me because it doesnt just target you, making it easier to be caught off guard by an AOE attack. I'd love to help others beat fatty but i feel like its much more dangerous in multi
Will never forget an SOS I joined this one time. It was the Fatalis special assignment, this one guy with the full Fatalis set and weapon joined and no joke used 5 of the 6 carts we had (felyne insurance), with the host using the last one. I get people have bad runs sometimes but something tells me he got carried for that set
3 days ago i called an sos for silver rathalos and golden rathian hymn of the sun and moon quest. I was so mad, when all 3 players i called in had no clue how to fight these 2 monsters and constantly got hit by the supertailswipeattack all 3 of my carts were my 3 sos partners. I tried it solo today and beat it first try solo. I didnt need the help, but i wanted to beat the quest faster than the 45 minutes it took me to fight the two of them together but bad sos players made the experience so bad i dont think ill call in sos for any quests again. Ill leave it for investigations and events
You for sure get mixed results when calling SOS flares, as mentioned in the video many players use this to try and get carried themselves which is a shame. Thanks for sharing you experience with this :)
I have 800 hours in monster hunter world, i have spent at least 300 in sos quests helping others. I tend to stat away from assignments and special assignments because i dont want to hard carry someone who isnt ready for that level of challenge up into harder quests that they will have to rely on more help, or joining others quests to complete it.
I will say, I love SOS flares in that they offer a list of multiplayer quests I can choose to join. I can assess the state that they're in, and how good the odds are that they won't immediately triple cart. So much better compared to Rise with random ass matchmaking.
Yo, I was a VERY toxic player as a child without knowing. I thought "Hmmm, I should join SOS quests because they are closer to being done so I can farm material faster." The problem was I sucked and I died all the time, sorry to all the hunters out there who's quests I flubbed up. I cringe in retrospect.
Alatreon was my first real wall. I tried to SOS him, but it was basically impossible due to people not even knowing that you "need" elemental weapons and them carting in the first minute and failing the quest before we even got a few hits in (I also carted very quickly and a lot). Fast forward and I spent a few days / weeks trying to solo Alatreon every once in a while and managed to do it. (well I did it together with a friend so technically we duo'd him, but we learned the fight is my point). Made me a way better hunter and the satisfaction of finally beating him was the best.
I remember when Alatreon came out and it felt like it didn’t matter if you joined an sos or used it yourself. Everyone had to learn the mechanics and I didn’t really mind all those failed hunts to Escaton Judgement.
I remember sending an SOS flare to hunt shara ishvalda since it was my first time fighting it. It took me i think around 5 or 6 attempts to finally beat it. I wasnt frustrated after a few attempts if people carted since I also carted but there was one person who ruined 2 of the attempts by carting a total of 6 times. when shara ishvalda was doing its rasengan the dude went to the middle twice. On my final attempt he carted twice and then we managed to beat it. By the time I was on my final attempt I managed to understand the monsters pattern and avoid getting carted.
There's a reason I literally never touched the SoS flare. In the past I consistently hunted solo of my usual group was unavailable as I learned very early on in my MH career not to rely on randos. I have gone down to help newbies but never have I trusted randos outside if siege quests like Kulve because I had to
ANOTHER ZENITH BANGER HOLY MOLY! I love the sos system in this game, after getting every piece of equipment I wanted, whenever I play all I do is join people who need help! My only rule is if I see you sitting out I'll sit out too, because I don't expect you to be good and you won't learn without trying so try your damnedest and I'll do the same. I'll come back to this after I beat the hard version of this challenge!
for me the most frustrating part about SOS flares, is the amount of times you or the other people could DC. and when yall were full squad, no one else can jump in to fill up the slot again
i fully expect the sos guy to cart or play badly since they're the one to call for help. the sos guy triple carted? that's fine! but it's a different matter if ur the joining hunter💀 i havent played world in a year bc i'm playing rise, but back then i always helped people with the alatreon special assignment (that doesnt use blast weapons) and a lot of times, their reaction would be extremely wholesome and it's really sweet to get that kind of interaction
When I was trying to kill fatty/ally/AT velka, i noticed people join your quest to eat up your carts. So i killed em solo until I had all my gear. Now i just go to help SOS, though, neither wide range utility nor HH buffing can prevent people from dying. So the best way i found to carry fights is to dps as much as i can without dying. When you do 1/3 of the damage alone, the fight goes better as long as parts are broken or elem dmg is thresheld
I'm still on of the people struggling for their first Alatreon kill. I'm practicing against the easy mode version, but I just haven't found the openings yet.
My son and I play casually and I always tell him: Your first job when outranked is to stay alive; second, learn the monster. I play horn and just don't do the damage other hunters do, so when I'm in shar or other tough fights, I buff and heal and do damage as I can. I think it's most important to have FUN, first.
@@guitboxgeek Completely agree with what you say, I don't have anything else to add other than wanting to share that it makes me smile to see a father talking about his son duo. I in this case am the son with a dad duo, wish you two many a great hunts and fun.
an update for the curious: I beat the weak Alatreon with Insect Glaive. Now on to trying that on tough guy Al. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement.
i finally took my first fatalis down 2 days ago, doing it solo since i have a similar mindset to yours. when i wanted to farm for gear thinking now that ive done it solo itll be easy in multiplayer i was shocked at how easily and often these sos responders would cart... done like 20 or more runs in the event quest, only 2 of em resulted in a kill. one of those kills was with a friend i know is good at the game, not with random sos
I was in the same boat, after solo killing him I tried it in multiplayer for a faster material grind but quickly realised how low the success rate of multiplayer fatalis hunts are
i had to do a tempered kirin quest recently, struggled with it so i had to SOS. one dude with (i'm sure it's legitimate) MR 999 joined, only to cart a few minutes later and left the quest instantly. then someone else joined and did the same. i hope some of you guys have better luck in the future 😇
Doing Alatreon SoS is funny. I have like 10% success chance with Blazing Black, and like 50% in the event quest. Boils down to just people not bringing elemental weapons. I just laugh when I see lightbreak weapons on the host search and no one just joins. On Fade to Black it's kinda smooth like 80-90% success chance since everyone usually know what to do and if they don't it can at least be enough for me/ any one other team mate to be the one smokebombing and using the ballista and weapons for fatalis
I actually made a set to be the support especially for SOS with a Kjarr Para SnS and the usual Wide Range so the player i'm helping will mostly do the damage and learn the monster moveset (even tho I get Critical Eye 7 and shit ton of paralysis status)
The thing that drives me nuts is people joining SOSes and playing recklessly as FUCK and never topping up their health. I was helping with a Savage Jho event and watched someone stay at 40~% health after my lifepowders ran out and I swear that they never healed themselves. Drives me nuts because these are usually the people to cart stupidly, not the person who sent the SOS.
I did play some SOS and myself send some SOS. I met only good players. I do not mind other hunters dying and failing the quest because we all learn. I myself died when I sent some SOS. So just be friendly, have fun, try to help other hunters because they later can help others.
I've found that the SOS flare is generally 75% useful before like midway through master rank. You start to encounter a larger amount of people who don't know how to play around there. However, when I got to the late game, that completely reversed. The few times I did SOS, I got people who absolutely could solo the quest we were on and were there just to spice up their MHW life by helping me. So all in all, the SOS flare is generally a positive thing to use. In my opinion.
On a little note that make the alatreon fight incredibly unfair when doing SoS. He switches phases on a timer, but this timer start when the mission does, not when start fighting him. Basically, if you join 3 minutes in, even if everyone stayed at camp, he will switch to dragon... And yes, 6 to 7 minutes and he wipes you for free.
Yeah you're right, I think a lot of people wait in camp untill someone joins the flare which detracts from your dps window (unknowingly making the hunt harder)
side eyes the long sword players who joined my teostra sos, tripped me all over the place, carted, and then didnt wait for me to set up my bonks to wake the monster
haha we've all been there, I make sure to run flinch free in multiplayer so everyone can do their max dps without worrying about where everyone else is standing
I use all of the weapons regularly. Seeing ranged weapon users in Fatalis quests always makes me feel phantom pain, because I know from experience what it means. The awful head hitzone and gunner armour scaling causing you to be oneshot by way more of his attacks makes this fight so much more difficult for ranged players. It may seem appealing to some due to the ability to hit the head all the time, but the downsides are absolutely massive. Because of this I rarely ever use a ranged weapon for the fight myself, unless someone im playing with needs the wings. Additionally, most players play the game with a controller. And while I myself don't know how much of a problem this is due to using keyboard and mouse, I can imagine that the difficulty of tracking his head properly would only amplify the issues even more.
My experience commonly, was getting players worse than me, whenever I would SoS for master rank KT and players would cart almost instantly on the first zone.
In the final fatalis fight the player could also have been waiting until they could eat again to gain some extra resistances, but being too scared is also likely if this was their first kill. I've done a lot of sos quests and I might even go so far as to say that I'm a wide range main rather than x weapon main with sns and lbg being my main weapons which are both great for wide range. I don't expect other people to build wide range sets just to help others, but it can be very rewarding. If you decide to help someone I think that you should bring some dust of life. People will be very grateful if you save them from carting and not failing quests is always better than failing them. If you want to help people here's what I do. If I'm joining someone in the base game with a low level then I usually downgrade my weapon and maybe have some fun using a new weapon. The reason I do this is so that I don't deal 90% of the damage and the new player doesn't learn anything. I often also use an overlay to check how much damage I've done, but that's not necessary. There quite a few veterans who just want to get through the game quick so I often ask how experienced people are. Another thing I often do with newer players is help them learn new things. Show them where a base camp is that they haven't unlocked yet, how flash bombs can take down flying monsters, etc. When it comes to master rank I usually don't bother downgrading my gear unless I'm playing along with someone. Low level mr I usually still take care not to do too much damage. The difficult quests are definitely alatreon and fatalis and these you should really expect to fail multiple times when joining random sos. You really need to have the right mindset for this as otherwise it will be very frustrating. A lot of people struggle with these monsters and join other people's sos quests so you often end up with multiple players who are bad at the fight. For these quests I usually see this as giving people experience with the fight and hoping that they learn something. I also usually join the quest leader's lobby if the quest fails (search for players you've recently played with) and help them until they've completed the quest or either of us is done for the day. I'd say alatreon is very doable to carry someone if needed even if you're not the best player like I am. With the right gear you can do enough elemental damage for multiple players. Fatalis I struggle a lot more with when 1 or multiple players you're helping barely do any damage, especially if they don't target the head and you don't have another player who knows what they're doing. Another thing I often do is join quests for which you no longer receive rewards and either nobodyis helping yet or it's multiple low level players. Nobody is going to join these and taking a long time, especially for early quests, is often a sign of someone who needs help. Sometimes they'll be almost done but I've also joined hunts that were 30 minutes in and they had barely made progress. I recommend joining a discord server dedicated to hunting together if you really want to help people with monsters like alatreon and especially fatalis. It's a lot of fun and easier to get through the fight. I've done hundreds of sos quests but I've rarely had people do nothing. If it happens it's usually the last cart and they're afraid to ruin the quest. What does happen more frequently with quests like fatalis is that people give up when someone carts early and they just leave. Good luck everyone who decides to help others. Have fun and talk with people. Most people don't say much unless you start talking to them.
My only SOS request was on HR Nergigante. After failing over 10 times, I started sending SOS for help, but no one ever came. OK, fast forward to attempt 23, I got a very good run, had lerned his moves and specially when to use the superman dive. I sent him limping to sleep with 2 lifes left. On my way to his nest, pretty confident I would win, someone joins. I placed 2 bombs on his head and this guy just did that triple charge with the greatsword, exploding everything and killing Nergi on the process. Now I just killed Velkana, but seems like the DLC will still go for a while (my 1st playthrough and I'm trying to spoil the least I can). I don't know how MHW matchmaking works, but I can't never find people asking for help on Anjanath, Legiana, Rathalos, even Teostra (either in Elder's Recess or on Wildspiral Wastes), which are fights I'm pretty confident I could help.
Well, challenge completed I guess? I really like joining Alatreon and Fatalis SOS to help out, that's how I got most of my 117 Ala and 161 Fatalis hunted (they are my top 2 most hunted lmao)
The SOSs I join for own benefit are guiding lands to ask if they can spawn it certain monsters I don't have in my world 😅 After doing what they are farming obviously
Funny enough, I consider joining an SOS as an added challenge. Kill the monster before the new guy dies 3 or 5 times, it gives a nice feeling beating it that way.
Personally, I've always felt that if I didn't beat it on my own, I didn't beat it at all... But the time it took me to beat Rajang for the first time in World (three tries and a near time out) killed whatever enthusiasm I had in _ever_ fighting it again.
IMO I don’t care what happens after the flare is popped. Joined the quest for some easy loot and cart? No problem, shit happens. Fired a flare and cart 3 times? Meh, better luck next time. It’s a video game not a job, stop taking it so seriously. People already feel like shit when they cart and ruin a mission for multiple people. No need to bag on them to make yourself feel better, just do it solo. I’ve always admired how the MH community adopts a very “ce la vie”/stoic attitude. It’s conducive to a learning atmosphere. In short, be chivalrous, don’t forget your manners, and have fun!
I almost never join or fire an SOS until I’ve completed the quest itself ahead of time. After that, whenever I’m hunting the monster I fire off an SOS flare to say “Hey, I need X part, you need X part, let’s work together on this one” Of course, I do make occasional exceptions to this, mostly for layered armor, since I’m really just there to get what event material I need and leave.
Great video! I'm already over MR500 and I do exactly this, just join SOS to help people out, I remember when I was struggling with some hunts and some cool people helped me out, I think it's just fare to return the favor and help others achieve end game.
I feel like the cart limit shouldn’t immediately end the quest, but make it so there are no revives so that remaining hunters can attempt to defeat the monster with less help
Nah rookie stuff, I will never forget the high HR player (almost MR) who joined my lobby in MH4U and helped explain elements and hitzones worked and helped me not only reach HR but understand (slightly) how skills work and would rejoin me for multiple sessions to get me to keep improving. Now I join new players lobbies and try to help them get into the game. And wherever you are 401Khezu after hundreds of hours through multiple games, I am now at a level I never could have thought of back in those 4U days, keep hunting and stay frosty, hope to find you in the Wilds.
This is extremly true. Usually i play solo but sometimes I encounter people that aren't able to do much or giving cards like playing MaoMao. This isn't that bad by itself because its ok to still have a lot to learn in MHW even with MR100+, but the person we all joined used a feature to call for help... Why does someone who needs help looks up for a mission in a section where people can call for help? Why not calling for help either?
Without the SoS I would have quit at kushala that boss can die in a fire and I hope it never returns ever. Other than that I use SoS all the time, sometimes its just faster other times you know people are looking for carves. I just make sure if im joining someone else SoS I come geared, the worst feeling is carting in someone else's sos. Ive never been the reason one has failed but I have seen some people use all 3 carts and you just shake your head and want to say go stand at camp but I don't.
The issue isn't the game, it is the players. More and more people don't know hunting etiquette. I don't hunt with others unless I have to. It is rare that a player knows what he is doing.
Be sure to stick around to the end of the video to get involved with a special community challenge!
Challange accepted but tomorrow :D.
I'd accept if I had ps plus. Too broke to get ps plus
7:55 you had exactly 2.1 seconds left before the hit box would have conected and yes the last player would have made it in time
i remember while is was still trying to farm fatalis i joined a sos flare where some guy just tried to sit at camp the whole hunt once everybody realized we all just left
Yeah personally i dont get what the other player gets out of it by afking, well other than loot at the end. They'll never learn by doing it but i gues ssome people dont care
I leave these hunts too, im much happier if they try and keep failing then just sitting completely hands off.
i had a similar situation also , joined a SOS where we had to hunt 5 monster and when i got there it was absolute chaos , the host was afk , a another dude was exploring and the third one was trying to carry , good thing the third guy had safi weapon to deal the host left close to the end , same for the second guy and we manage to complete the quest with 40 sec left , to finish that , the game crashed right after so i couldnt even et the xp-material from the quest :(
The community took such a hit when MH went mainstream and I hope things het better as the fortnite kids mature a bit in their mh career. So many salty little assholes being, well, assholes in the rando world
Usually i'd call out the afk player to join the hunt, whether they'll fuck up the hunt or not
And i've also encountered my fair share of people using shitty equipments with wide range & free meal just running around and healing without dealing any damage to the monster whatsoever, doing that is actually only making the hunt harder because of the monster hp will be bloated because of multiplayer hunt
I joined an SoS the other day. Some other guy said "zenny sent me" at the end. You're a legend.
Oh my god thats so cool haha, I should have set up a twitter account or something so people could send over screenshots. Thanks for watching mate!
It's practically iconic for someone to join a SOS Fatalis, cart very quickly (maybe even more then once) and leave.
I tried to solo fatalis it
didn’t work out very well but I have completed it many times in a group of four.

Just started into iceborn and the sos flare makes the fights so much more bearable. Also the multiplayer shenanigans are keeping the game fresh. Yesterday a hammer player hit me with his golf swing that send me flying which led me to mounting the nargacuga we were hunting.
I had that also! Was helping low rank with Kushala and the guy knocked me with his swaxe which I converted into a mount
Love it man, let me know how it went once you've beat it!
was getting my but kicked by furious Rajang earlier today. It feels like it's just his move where he jumps in the air and shoots a bunch of balls of lightning that explode twice that is messing me up. Advice?
@@jacobpinson2834 ok so first its hard to say without knowing your weapon but basics are ice is his weakness and weapons that do high stun damage destroy him. if you want to embarrass him then bring one level of tremor resistance
easiest attack to doge is his slam it looks intimidating but rolling away once will completely invalidate it and give you some down time
he then might follow that up with a change in which case just roll towards him and you shouldnt take any damage
if he jumps and plants his hand in the ground you can either roll past that or literally just walk around it most of the time you dont even need to doge it
if he does his 4 piece combo then that can be doged by just going under his armpit most of the time (or if you are good at positioning just walk around him)
if he jumps in the air and does a frontflip down to you, you can avoid damage either by rolling or just walking he likes to follow this up with a arm plant and then a slam
if he ever jumps and does the shooting attack that explode if you roll once towards him you will be right at his face (be careful in enraged since the downtime this gives you is a bit lower)
and lastly the slam attack where he creates cracks can be avoided in two ways either he does it close to you and you just go to his right or he does it far and you go between the gaps
sorry if its not detailed enough but if you tell me your weapon i can see if i can give a more in depth breakdown
I used to dread Rajang as well. Now, he's like an old friend with the best theme song.
You got this mate! Let me know when you take him down :)
Jesus, Faty came out 4 years ago. I feel old
lmao same to me@@Warpded
This was very wholesome :D I’m happy you could help some of these players out - especially if they had been failing to kill the creature again and again. That must be incredibly frustrating… and then sooooo satisfying when they finally beat it, thanks to you guys!
Thanks for watching, a lot of people quit the game at monsters like those so hopefully the communities help might inspire them to stick around!
I auto-ignore Alatreon SOS quests whenever I see the host not using an elemental weapon. There are a LOT of them usually with Raging Brachy weapons.
They’re about to learn the hard way
But to be honest, they should make the dps check a bit easier,i was FORCED to beat Alatreon with Kulve Taroth weapon(Due to having crit element,i can't do it with regular element weapons),so i gotta endure rng shits before even hunt Alatreon, its bullshit
@@OMGYOUARER8GHT A lot of people have said that Frostfang weapons + fight knowledge is enough to beat Alatreon.
@@casualgamerdad2878for less elementally inclined weapons, maybe some ice decos. but besides that, this remains true

I like to find hunts where its past the 10 minute mark and theres still one person in it. even if the monster is almost dead I want to go in and help newer players on those really hard hunts nobody else wants to join. its a good way for me to learn a new weapon and help a newer or struggling player
Actually so annoying when you are struggling with a monster and then youre partner that joins you is struggling aswell and throws the whole hunt
i noticed that almost no hunt fails due to lack of damage. people get greedy trying to get their dps in and cart in an unlucky spot. so i try to help them with dust of life and wide range. keeping your fellow hunters alive is more important to success than than that perfect tcs just before the quest fails
Yeah same feelings. I'm a solo first hunt purist, but whatever other ppl do don't bother me
A lot of people gatekeep to feel superior it feels like, they need to learn to just let other people have fun
I solo everything the first time the spam SOS
Never used or joined SOS flare because I'm afraid to fail but I agree
Its guilty pleasure for me now looking at carting randoms 😂
It's all fun and games until you see a guy wearing nothing but a pot on his head and some underwear.
Let Me Solo Her would be the god of SOS flares
So instant sub for me and heres why:
I had the privlege of Playing the Wilds Demo at Twitchcon this year.
You may prefer to play solo, but you're not toxic and say 'guh thats not a real victory, do it solo'
a kill is a kill.
The MH community is the best out of all the games I've played in my personal opinion, I started in World also and witnessed first hand how willing they are to help new hunters - I suppose now im an "experienced" player I want to pay it forward too, maybe you will end up doing the same in wilds :)
Happy to have you here mate, thanks so much for subbing!
Well said, especially as a new players its really cool to see veterans join the hunt and put the work in :)
One problem is that SOS replaces the "I wanna join a quest but my session group sucks" button.
There are no alternatives for "randoms" or a cross session join feature other than SOS.
Very true, unless you have a group of friends to play with multiplayer feels very impractical to get into
That darn fatalis flame he does that fans out has carted me way more than I want to admit.
Even if my help convinces only 1 player to stick with the game I can walk away happy!
@@ZennyHunter or better yet inspires them to help others too.
I'm not sure why, but i started to choke up a little at around 9:30. I think it was a combination of your great advice and proof of a hero playing
I have personally used SOS Flares in only 2 situations:
-To get the trophy for firing one.
Someone else suggested this and I've been meaning to get around to it, maybe I'll do a youtube short about it 🤔
The advice of how to use the SOS itself is honestly insightful. I felt that firing a SOS without first looking for someone else's might be a bit selfish, but I'm definitely one who might struggle. I've been most contemplating SOS as I struggle against AT Nergigante.
7:51 Thats what you deserve PATRICK!
Some times you've got to show them who's boss 😂
im a recent MH player (started with World as my first and about 250 hrs in)
Tbh, Alatreon and Fatalis was quite hard when i got to it especially when my equipment wasn't up to date and my LS skills weren't really on par.
A great and refreshing way to look at the sos mechanic. I can’t wait to go out there to help out some hunters 😊
Agreed, I find it lovely to join random hunts in all the Mon Hun games I've played. From helping new hunters through MSQ, helping new hunters plan their progression builds, and vibing with veteran hunters have given me the most joy within the last decade!
Thank you mate, make sure to check back in after helping someone beat Alatreon/Fatalis and let me know how it went!
I'd love to help others beat fatty but i feel like its much more dangerous in multi
alateron fight, is literally astera jerky twice depending on how much elemental damage you did or health booster and jerky.
One of my old characters was "Hammer Bro," when I just played Hammer and used Speed Eater and Wide Range, basically being the support of the team lol
I thought "Hmmm, I should join SOS quests because they are closer to being done so I can farm material faster."
The problem was I sucked and I died all the time, sorry to all the hunters out there who's quests I flubbed up. I cringe in retrospect.
We live and we learn haha
MUshroom Val'Hazak is often an SOS flare fiasco. SO many people joining don't even have the res jewels it's crazy.
I swear Archtempered Velkana has the most scroungers coming in and getting oneshot 😂
Someone else in the comments asked me to try that hunt in SOS so I gave it a go... I can confirm it's impossible haha
While I tend to join people for my own benefit, playing team support with HH or Mushroomancer SnS is a fast way to get the love from everyone...
Love it, I'll throw a community post out in a couple days to check in aswell!
for me the most frustrating part about SOS flares, is the amount of times you or the other people could DC. and when yall were full squad, no one else can jump in to fill up the slot again
i fully expect the sos guy to cart or play badly since they're the one to call for help. the sos guy triple carted? that's fine! but it's a different matter if ur the joining hunter💀 i havent played world in a year bc i'm playing rise, but back then i always helped people with the alatreon special assignment (that doesnt use blast weapons) and a lot of times, their reaction would be extremely wholesome and it's really sweet to get that kind of interaction
Im fine with soloing monster but I feel sad and lonely hunting it so I turn on an solo flare
Same bro
But you have your palico D:
@@ZioLisi palico or not it feels better to play along with other players
Keep at it, it was the most difficult fight for me, At velk or even Fatalis was easier.
Watching speed runs with my weapon is what helped me the most, its the easiest way to see where the openings and damage windows are
My son and I play casually and I always tell him: Your first job when outranked is to stay alive; second, learn the monster.
On Fade to Black it's kinda smooth like 80-90% success chance since everyone usually know what to do and if they don't it can at least be enough for me/ any one other team mate to be the one smokebombing and using the ballista and weapons for fatalis
you got a new subscriber that is me XD thanks for being so nice to other play and saying all of does things
Thank you so much!
I actually made a set to be the support especially for SOS with a Kjarr Para SnS and the usual Wide Range so the player i'm helping will mostly do the damage and learn the monster moveset (even tho I get Critical Eye 7 and shit ton of paralysis status)
As a hunting horn main, it's my job to respond to SOS flares, be a goat, make hunters immortal, and leave without elaborating.
Gotta get to Alatreon and Fatalis myself first, but after that im definitely going the sos rounds!
My experience commonly, was getting players worse than me, whenever I would SoS for master rank KT and players would cart almost instantly on the first zone.
is your hunter... dressed as ninomae inanis????
Just googled that name and you know what... you're not wrong lol
The SOSs I join for own benefit are guiding lands to ask if they can spawn it certain monsters I don't have in my world 😅
After doing what they are farming obviously
Funny enough, I consider joining an SOS as an added challenge. Kill the monster before the new guy dies 3 or 5 times, it gives a nice feeling beating it that way.
Alatreon is the monster that made me switch from HBG to LBG after spending the entire game dedicating to HBG.
After that, whenever I’m hunting the monster I fire off an SOS flare to say “Hey, I need X part, you need X part, let’s work together on this one”
Of course, I do make occasional exceptions to this, mostly for layered armor, since I’m really just there to get what event material I need and leave.
Why not calling for help either?
i did carted twice in mew is number one quest. I was so embarrassed that day i have to leave the SOS.
The player staying in the base when fatalis was close to death was kinda cute tbh. He didn't want to disappoint everyone :D
He did the opposite. He became a MASSIVE disappoint since he let them carry him. He doesn't deserve the win.

I've been seeing a lot of mhw stuff on TH-cam lately. Maybe it's time to finally try to beat Fatalis.
