The new Kawasaki Z500 brings some great value to the table in the world of beginner motorcycles! I can't help but bring up CFMOTO's 450NK to compare to this model - What do you guys think provides better value? Is it worth saving a few hundred dollars to get a bike from CFMOTO, or would you spend the extra cash to get a bike from a legendary manufacturer like Kawasaki? Let me know in the comments below!
Good to be back in the saddle again. See you in the next one.

@@leeinwis What do you mean?
Ive got just over 250 miles on mine. It's a daily driver to work and back along with some weekend riding. It's a fun piece of gear. Not super fast, not too slow. Easily capable of highway speeds.
@desertcoyote8291 not at present. I just load my pack and use it right now. I may make a set of saddlebags for it in the future for any possible long road trips. But I only average about 18 miles on my work rides there and back total.
@desertcoyote8291 Don't talk about his wife like that !
Does the handles vibrate at 80-90 mph
@@jacobjeffs3504 The bike vibrates at lower revs
@@jacobjeffs3504I don't notice excessive vibration at any speed.
I also live in MO and I also hate i70. I'm getting one of these bikes tomorrow, so I appreciate this video in particular. Subbed!
Awesome to hear you're getting one of these! Hope it went smooth and you've been able to take advantage of the warmer weather that has bled into these traditionally colder months.
Thanks for watching. Ride safe. 😎
@ I did get it on Saturday and I was able to learn how to ride it on Sunday! I’ve never even drove a stick but I was doing figure 8s pretty okay. I actually got the bike BECAUSE of the fact that our first frost date keeps getting pushed back due to climate change, figured I might as well save miles on my car and just ride.
Thanks brother! I hope to see you around 😏

18:29 4.8 seconds from 0-60 is about the same I got doing it from idle. It is not bad for a 451cc bike, but not that much different from the Z400. I do like it, the engine is a bit more smooth than the one in the Z400.
I got 3.9. It revs to 11k, give it the beans!
@@Astrothunderkat probably not from idle. Next to that weight matters and we do have the 45 hp model in Europe instead of 51 hp in the rest of the world.
Great video on the Kawasaki 500 series
Thanks for watching! Ride safe. 😎
The SE model would be cool if it came in Kawasaki green but I don't understand how a "special edition" Kawasaki that comes in red that just doesn't make sense to me. & I got mine for a good price otd so I'm not complaining, I really like the bike. I don't think most people need more power than this. I usually drive a Tacoma this is just my go out & have fun ride cruiser. These 450-500's are not beginner bikes anymore, beginners might be able to ride them but I have 20 years experience & still love these bikes. They're much lighter & easier to move around 'n just ride thru the city then a bigger & heavier bike
Very nice review!
I have doubts..... purchasing this Z 500 or the Honda CL500. I did a testride with both. The Z500 has a more active riding position. The Honda more upright. The engine. I liked the kawa engine but I also loved the Honda's engine. I had the feeling that the Honda does it all a little bit more relax. The Kawasaki can be driven faster and more sporty I had the feeling.
Can you compare with the Honda 500 engine? And how do you compare both those engines?
Thx for your answer.
Best regards from Belgium
Wim
Hi Belgium! Thanks for watching my video. The Honda will never do anything that is undesirable, and that's the best thing about their machines. They do have a tendency to be boring and maybe a little dull, but their legendary reputation for reliability is second to none.
Kawasaki is also a very well-known company when it comes to being dependable. They lean a bit more into the edgy side of things when it comes to releasing power figures and focusing on light-weight flickability.
I would personally take the Z500 over the Honda because it makes about the same power, is more lightweight, and should be offered with the same warranty. The Honda may have more premium suspension/brakes, but on small displacement bikes like this I don't worry a ton about those items.
Thanks for watching! Ride safe. 😎
@Omni_Moto thx for your reply. I know the things you mentioned, especially about the Honda being so good that it could be boring. In 2011 I worked for Honda Motorcycles as a salesman so I've ridden lots of their bikes back then. Let's say I tested them all then. But now more than 13y later. I was actually surprised riding the CL500 because I tested the CB500X 3y ago and after 20 minutes I was back at the dealer because It gave me, like you said, that dull, perfect feeling. No emotions, what so ever. So I bought something else.
Here in Europe, especially Belgium, Holland and Luxemburg Kawasaki gave 4 years warranty + 4 road assistance. (Flat tire, engine failure and go on). And Honda is 5 years warranty and 5y road assistant. And a good road assistance.
I don't look specifically in one direction of a model. It could even be a Royal Enfield classic or motorscooter which I've had but now I want a parallel twin. I was already downsizing last years and let's say 6y ago I had the duke 390, than the Husqvarna Vitpilen and my bike I just sold was a Royal Enfield Meteor 350. Loved that bike but I sold it after 2y warranty so the new owner has a year warranty left. Great bike but for overtaking and some highway overtaking it wasn't enough. No problem with the kawa and Honda.
I think I have to make a list with the pro's and contra's. I think the Honda is less high revving.
Thx again for your reply.
Best regards
Wim
First! Idk man, I'm curious how they're gonna play this out. We keep going up for beginners eventually we're gonna end up at 650s again. I'm not opposed to this idea but I genuinely feel we should be improving the lower displacement engines vs just making them bigger. I'm glad the Z got some much needed love though, it's about time it did.
i agree. i wouldnt mind a 250 or 300 cc sub 5k beginner bike
There's a big hole in the market for smaller cheaper bikes. I can't understand why anyone thinks a 400-650 is a beginner bike. I started out on a Bridgestone 90 back in the 60's. Most people started on 50-125's then. Fast forward 40yrs, I had a 250 ninja and loved it even though I'd owned bigger faster bikes by then. I'm 72 now riding a 23 ninja 400 and think it's a good bike for an advanced rider with advanced ego. We don't all need bigger, faster, more expensive bikes and no beginner needs one that goes 100mph in 1st or second gear. My 400 is faster in 2nd than my first bike was wide open in 4th (top) gear. Something like a retro cb 150-200 Honda would sell and that would be a great beginner bike. Royal Enfield is on the right track with their 350 which reminds me I also have an Enfield 650 because it reminds me of the old Bonnevilles.
@@jimt1240 trust me, I get it. I learned on a little 250 ninja. Don't get me wrong. The mid market makes sense for a powerful 400 to 700 range. But I really think the 300 to 450 range really needs to be explored more with more advancement. I really think CFmoto hit the nail with the 450SS and NK with a cross plane crank and tuning for better torque. These other companies really need to refine a bit more.
@@tyrant1178 yes to that. Also Ninja 400 with better tune, cam, exhaust, brakes all that aftermarket stuff we do to make it what it should be out the door.
@@jimt1240 completely agree
I can’t decide if I want this or the eliminator for my first bike!!
That's a tough decision since the engines are the same, but it can be narrowed down by deciding what is more important to you as a rider.
Do you want more comfort or more precision?
Comfort = Eliminator
Precision = Z500
Classic or new-age styling?
Classic = Eliminator
New-Age = Z500
Low Seat height vs. Taller Seat Height?
Low Seat = Eliminator
Taller Seat = Z500
Passenger Comfort?
More comfortable = Eliminator
Less Comfortable = Z500
Those are just a few criteria you can use to help narrow down you decision, but it always helps to write out the pros in cons of each one and do a more in depth analysis yourself to truly solidify which one is going to serve you best. Hope this helps! Ride safe. Thanks for watching.
Hey Omni dude! Wow, really have missed you buddy! Your presentations are incredibly funny!
That ad for Saint Charles was funny as buggery too😂😂 That is such a massive bike store! Multiple brands literally under one roof!
Why has Kawasaki pitched this against themselves with the Z400’s?
Are they going after Hondas 500’s?
Cheers & enjoy your summer! Working on your tan whilst I’m going back to white skin😉
That was an old ad I created for them that they unfortunately didn't want to use on their official media outlets, though I can understand why. 😅
I'm not sure about you all down under with the Z400, but that model has gotten the axe as of this year and the Z500 is the new flagship beginner naked in the states. I think it has a lot to do with Honda's 500cc bikes for sure, but also CFMOTO's introduction of their 450cc engines have given Kawasaki a reason to market their bikes as "bigger" even though on paper they're about the same.
Hope your Australian winter is off to a smashing start. Cheers Steve! 😎

This is on the short list for my upgrade bike next season. Quick question. How vibey was the motor? I had a 310gs I hated because it felt like I was holding a Hitachi "massager" in each hand once it hit the upper rev range (among other reasons, traded it after 315 miles)
The motor does not have a ton of vibration, but it is present. I actually touched on the subject in the Ninja 500 review I just posted if you want to hear my take on it. The only reason I mentioned it at all was because someone had asked a similar question in another video so I wanted to address it - looks like I had good reason to mention since you're asking as well 😉. th-cam.com/video/uUlcCrDvXSk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SZXqp-sqKb-_7bJk

Good video , nice highly visible helmet 👍what model is it ?
New rider here, been considering an mt03 and recently the z500 as a first bike. Any thoughts on that? Z500 is about $600 more but seems to be much more bike for the money
Z500 is easily the better bike of the two in my opinion. You get more bike for what you pay, even if it does come at a premium. The MT-03 isn’t bad, it’s just long in the tooth and needs an update. Z500 is my top pick for a beginner bike at this time. Because of its excellent value and class leading specs. A close second is the CFMOTO 450NK, but I don’t have any first-hand experience with it just yet. Thanks for watching! Ride safe. 😎
Thank you very much about this review! I was between MT 03 and this! You are bout 4cm taller than me which I feared it might be an issue but you looked great! Question, what about availability of parts? I heard for Ninja that their parts between 400 and 500 are compatible do you have any idea about the Z400 and Z500?
Thank you very much for watching! There are some parts that are cross compatible, but I would ensure you talk to whoever you are thinking of purchasing parts from to verify fitment and ensure you are getting the best results. Ride safe. 😎
So if it puts the pressure against the thing it's supposed to be pressing against....does it also keep its peanut butter at a constant ratio of 94 degrees while it presses against ten beach balls at at 600 psi a peace?

What is your oppinion Z500 VS Z400 VS 450NK, Just currious! Thanks! I think Z400 and Z500 sound so bad compared to 450NK 💙💜🤍
You can't beat the sound of the crossplane 450NK. I haven't had a chance to ride an NK yet, but even with that in mind, I think I would take one over the Z400 or Z500 because of the crossplane twin alone. Not to mention the better standard features at the same price as the base Z models (TFT, inverted forks, etc.)

I am thinking, or well planning to buy the z500 se in red just as you've got it as my first bike in a few weeks, do you think it's beginner friendly? I've heard because of it's weight and the easy steering it should make quite a good starter, can you say this aswell?

Hi! Which one you chose, z500 or cb500hornet?
Tough choice - The CB500 has more sophisticated componentry so it comes at a price premium. The Z500 can do everything the CB500 can do, but the fit and finish is a bit cheaper.
My personal pick for value is the Z500, but if you want something that feels a bit more refined and stable, I'd say snag the Honda if it doesn't stretch your budget beyond what you were prepared for.
Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and ride safe. 😎
I chose z500se because huge weight saving over CB 500 hornet
@@Omni_Moto thank you for your help. So I choose the z500 se.
I tried both but the hornet is too boring for me and a Kawa is more fun. I tried also the z650 but I use 80% hard traffic City in Europe. So I hope I will be happy the next two years 😅🤘
2024 duke 390 or z500?
This is a tough one, but i would personally go for the Duke 390. Compared to the Z500 SE it doesn’t come at a huge price premium, and you get really good suspension components that are fully adjustable, along with a ride-by-wire throttle with selectable ride modes, ABS modes, fraction control modes, and i think even the option to unlock a cruise control feature.
For me, the Duke 390 is the winner, but if you don’t care about all of the tech and performance it has to offer, a base level Z500 ABS is a rock solid choice.
Hope that answers your question thoroughly. Thanks for watching! 💪😎
@@Omni_Moto thanks you for the response,I’m just looking for the most fun around town 40-65mph ,I see I lot of people love the mt07 but I feel like it a lil bit overkill for the type of riding I’m going to be doing but I want something similar with torque maybe duke 390 is my best choice thanks
6ft about 230lbs , gonna be enough bike?
It will be enough bike. You may find yourself hunting for more power sooner though, and I'd advise considering the Z650 given your dimensions. You'll fit on it better and it'll keep you entertained longer. Thanks for watching! Ride safe.

What I’ve learned after 40 years of riding and breaking in new bikes is that there is no one way to break in a new bike. Usually the factory suggestions are too weak for a good break in but I don’t flail the poor things either. I’m nice for about 200 miles then start playing around a little letting the bike tell me if it’s happy with a bit of a spanking or not. If you’re brand new to riding follow the break in procedure till you get some time in more than one bike. And for gods sake shit the crap out of it don’t lug the engine at a low rpm in a high gear.

Whats with kawasaki and usual telescopic forks. Are they this poor that they cannot afford to give USD forks in any of their bike models. Every kawasaki is missing usd forks. Z400, 500, eliminator etc.
From my general understanding, inverted forks are more expensive to manufacture and provide advantages that riders would only notice in the highest competitive scenarios (lighter steering, stronger triple clamps).
To keep costs down and keep 2-wheels as accessible as possible, they have to cut corners somewhere. The rest of the machine is good enough that I can overlook that, but it would still be nice to see that come to these models eventually.

1.) I am human and make mistakes. I will edit the video and remove that portion when I have the chance. At the time of recording I should have double checked my sources - that's on me and I will own up to it.
