Every track on this album is beautiful, and feel the total opposite way you do as apart from Poland it's definitely their most emotional haunting and gentle release thus far... ❤
Biggest difference between Exit and this White Eagle albums for me is that Exit has quite dark and melancholy vibe to it. And White Eagle is much more happy and joyful. For me it sounds like you didn't hear this at all. I wonder if anyone agrees with me?
My father had a lot of casettes, and on one of those (labeled #36) was this album on side B, and Exit on side A. They are so inseparable to me that If I listen to one I always listen to the other too. White Eagle is the one I like more, and also it is my favorite TD album hands down.
I’ve been joying your TD reviews, not many do, and they’re quintessential and groundbreaking electronic music. If you allow me, you should do a review of their live albums. My Top Two Tangerine Dream live albums are Encore and Poland.
Personally, after giving this a play, I think this album is pretty good. Sure it’s nothing new as to what TD can do (which in turn makes this one of their more weaker projects), but I think this album is not too shabby as a whole. Convention of the 24 would be my favorite on here followed by the title track as my second favorite (honestly goes to show how strong the second half is compared to the first). Overall, it’s not an album that I do see myself returning to a whole lot (especially compared to Exit), but I think this is fine for what it is.
I knew this album would divide opinion because I still have mixed feelings about it myself. Yes I understand a lot of what Wonky says but feel he is being harsh based on previous stellar albums by them. The title track is in my top 5 fav TD tracks, it's crystalline and melodic sounds win me over every time, plus with it being the closer makes me want to give it a 7.5 out of 10. I have to add that Raum, the last album they did from last year I rate as an 8.5 and my 3rd fave TD album so check that out people.
Disagree. Side A is another masterpiece. Side B is obviously 3 solo tracks. Midnight in Tula is pure upbeat Franke, but slightly jarring and unfinished. Convention of the 24 is your typical Froese solo effort, i.e. nice but goes nowhere and outlasts it's welcome by the end. Like some of his solo pieces too repetitive and lacking structure. White eagle is my favourite TD track. Superb haunting Schmoelling melodic masterpiece. Overall due to 2 of their best cuts easily a classic album for me.
I'll be honest, I really like this album a lot. It's not their best by any means, a bit dated for sure, but its a "guilty pleasure" for me. Mojave Plan is brilliant as each section ends up being more catchy and melodic as it goes on. That second section? Its a banger! And so is the third bit with that string ending! It sounds pretty real to me. If it was sampled strings, they did their best to hide it. Also I don't agree that the first section is a rip-off of Choronzon. Maybe the beat, but... Also they tended to recycle their stuff a lot. Midnight in Tula sounds like a freaky synthpop track. Convention of the 24 is a bit plain though. The title track is decent. My biggest problem is probally the odd mixing, especially the squeeching sounds at the beginning of Mojave Plan. A bit too loud for me. White Eagle is pretty decent album, and one I surprisingly come back to often... But mainly for Mojave Plan.
I like White Eagle, but it’s no one of their Top 5 for me. I mean, if I don’t listen to it in a couple of years, I don’t miss listening to it. And then, one day, I go and play it and I do t feel like I wasted my time. It’s just all right, not great, not bad.
Nah, it's not that bad at all. I've always enjoyed listening to it through, but as time has gone on, it doesn't have quite the lastability of Phaedra, Rubycon, Ricochet etc.
I quite like Mojave Plan though accept the meandering and coldness in production. Always loved the track White Eagle. The rest is not doing much for me.
Im a big fan of your knowledge, keep up the great work, sometimes I do portrait sketches of people, and you have been sketched. I'd like to send you the pic but it won't let me attach it, I'm pretty slow skill set at YouTubing , where can i send it?
I don't like Exit at all but I like White Eagle. It's a tie between Tangram and White Eagle for me. Their next one after it Hyperborea is meh, It's ok I guess. still a hell of a lot better then what comes after (Le Crap, Tyger, Melrose,) Optical Race and Lily on the Beach get a pass IMO not because their good, but rather it's fun to listen too. (Like background music wise)
I agree 100% with Wonkster on this one... except what he says here also applies for the entire rest of their discography for me :P Oop, yep. He mentioned me at the end there 😂 I'll watch the rest of this series, and maybe I'll need to give some albums another chance. But yeah, if I was writing a review on White Eagle, it would sound almost word-for-word the same as this. One thing that really bugged me were those drum machines. They sound terrible on here; so lifeless, artificial and unimaginative, even compared to Exit.

I listen to this one at least once a month. It is still one of my absolute favourite albums by TD.

This made me really want to check out your other reviews ! Only joking. I've forgotten more about this stuff than you'll ever know.
Blasphemy, White Eagle is a masterpiece!
Everything that you will ever need to know about Tangerine Dream can be found on this album. A perfect example 80's technology.

Can't understand this negative review, its a great album and love how its nothing like the previous one , it's melodic and catching and has emotion

I'll be talking about some of their live albums including those two in the Odds & Ends at the end of this series

Damn, you ripped this one to pieces. That’s too bad it’s a great album! Mojave Plain that’s all I have to say!😎👍🏽

Sorry to say but i'm totally on board with all your comments about this release. It's basically a weaker version of Exit.
