- Seattle-based hip hop artist @GRIEVES206 sat down with UA audio expert Ben Lindell to talk about how he uses Apollo interfaces and Auto-Tune Realtime Advanced to stay in the creative zone and capture inspired performances without having to worry about being pitch-perfect every time. They cover their favorite Auto-Tune settings to get a variety of sounds, how to set up Console for low-latency monitoring, how to copy settings into your DAW to get a head start on mixing, and much more.

Man it's good to see Ben back. Grieves and Ben has such a great chemistry. UA needs to produce more of these videos. EXCELLENT!
Double the Ben. Double the fun! Thanks for having me out my friends!
Ayyy, look who’s back!! Thank you for this!!👏🏿🔥⚙️
You guys, this is an awesome video. Thank you! Really inspiring when you both were talking about the emotional connection to the recording that was cool thanks.
Dang....I did not know you had 2 copy and paste into DAW! ....I was going Nizzutts...4 many minutes !! ...I wish this knowledge was easier found !! Thank you and appreciate !!
Yes!! I needed this. I've got both AT Realtime and Apollo and haven't been using this combo.
Love this, thank you!!🔥🔥🔥
never heard of grieves before but what a great personality and educator alongside ben. loved this video.
Hey Ben its been awhile. Glad to see you back and hope Matt is still around. During quaritine you guys helped so much you don't even know.
Yup! We're all still here! Glad you found those streams useful, we had a blast doing them.

More Ben!
Love this guy :D
Using autotune in real time on the way in is kind of an art in itself. It can be a great phrase trainer for vocalists too.
Nice 👍 You gotta love Ben and of course props to Reeves. I print my auto tune. 1073 > CL1B(or LA-2A)> Autotune or
Manley VoxBox > Oxide Tape > Autotune
💪🏻
I’m scared to print auto tune lol don’t know why
@@jacksp8de lol do you print your vocals ?
thank you for the help.
I been singing baby I’m okayyyy ayyyyy all day brilliant video and song all my questions answered
I like his mentality, I understand both sides of it. I don't have any issue with using auto tune for recordings, I typically like the sound better when done right, live is a different story. It's some different times now.
Love it! Now make better drivers for Windows. My newly built PC UAD plugins randomly stop working while using the Apollo X4. Maybe partner up with another company to focus on PC drivers since it’s been an issue from the beginning.
You still got your x4?? It’s hard to beat that workflow
@@jacksp8de Yeah I'm in India right now. A few people hit me up on the Marketplace to get it. It might be out of here when I get back home. Cool workflow but that doesn't matter if it's constantly randomly crashing.
@@v3zMediayeah you have a PC. I’ve heard horror stories. On a Mac I never had an issue
@@jacksp8de Never had an issue on PC
@@SoundConstraints only 1 of my 3 PC's act right with X4 and it's an older model.
What’s a good level to record at and also what was the compressor settings like
I’m not new to autotune, but am new to UA stuff. What’s backward comparability like? Like does my current Antares subscription include a license for old hardware? Do things go out of date like Apple products?
Thanks! ❤
Hello, awesome video, thanks for sharing. I really want to find this song that is being sung but can’t find it on the linked profile, could someone share please!!
Okay UAD!
When are we going to have more plugins on spark? Please add all neve and manley stuff 🙏🏻. Would be great to have autotune too 😁
Vocal chain? Sounded VERY crisp
Hey guys! Do you see yourself adding the regular "Formant" mode that is on the Standard Autotune Pro plugin? Thanks
Nothing to announce at this time, but thanks for the feedback, we'll pass it along.
To be honest, I'd take his UN-pitch corrected take over all of the others. Not only is the feel better, but the tone is slightly less muffled/strangled. More 3D. @GRIEVES206 doesn't need it to make a good recording.
Really appreciate that! This is just tutorial for people to learn how to use and gauge how much they may need or want. I never go full send but I think it’s important to show both sides.
I get that the Pro Tools DAW is industry standard but, being an advocate for UAD, why not still use Luna??? Cool video still, though. 🔥
Thanks for the "copy/paste"... CooI. Now I wanna go sing my raps lol
Great tutorial for Auto Tune. Would've been much better if it was done in Luna instead of Pro Tools though
Neve 1073 in unison, LA 2A and Pultec Eq on the inserts in console while the UAD Rec is set (instead of mon). Now all three effects will get printed in the DAW wave file right? Or just the Neve 1073 unison? Just having a confusion.
with uad rec ON you will get your neve preamp, l2a and eq recorded into your daw. If you have uad monitor on then only the preamp is recorded and send to the daw.
@@bigsantamane Thanks man 👍🏼
Does the 0 latency auto tune work with the Windows version of the Apollo twin ?
Yes!!
@@UniversalAudio awesome thank you! And between all the models do they all perform the same with auto tune latency or do some models do it better than others?
All the same.
@@UniversalAudio dope thanks!
🤘🏻
Is it possible to receive the dry signal of the vocal in the inear and send the autotune for speakers/monitor?? if yes, how ?
Yes, you can put AT on an Aux and feed the in ears with a Cue directly from the channel.
4:31 oh god....
I’ve been trying to use autotune real-time on the uad console, but it doesn’t appear on the inserts. how can I fix this?
Be sure it's not Hidden.
help pls. im using twin mk2 to mac studio. in the virtual console i hear 2 vocals., is there anything to fix this? my recoding dosent sound like your recording.
Be sure to turn off software monitoring in your DAW.
@@UniversalAudio I sent a ticket to UA for these already , I hope they answer soon. when i use it sound like chorus. im not using the daw (protools in my case) just monitoring with the UA console. my daw is off.
Support aims for 48-72 hr response times, and they do not work weekends so look for a reply within that time frame.
This sounds great and resonate a great sound. Stay away from the UAD volts back there looking nice on the self. That's where they work the best.
😂 savage
My little Volt works pretty well.
At 15:49 Ben mentioned that it's possible to trigger one's DAW from within Console, but he didn't really explain it or show it on the screen, so it went over my head. How can I do this? Thanks.
He just means that those keystrokes are "passed through" to your DAW. So you can have Console in front, and still issue transport keystrokes to control the DAW. Cool!!
@@UniversalAudio Thanks...and wow, what a speedy reply!
Boom!
Its a sick plugin I loved the demo, its a shame they are so pricey lol inflation UAD GIVE US SOME DEALSSSS haha
Do you have input delay compensation on in the Apollo when doing this? If so what setting?
Input delay comp is not needed when only using one mic, so you can set it to off. IDC phase aligns mics on a drum kit for example.
@@UniversalAudio but why is it that I’m constantly having to adjust my artists performance? I have idc on Apollo twin x, set to off, 64 Pt mode , 48khz, and yet when I track a vocalist with autotune on in pro tools, using delay compensation as shown in this tutorial, I’m constantly having to nudge…
@@UniversalAudio I’m printing onto the record path the Neve and Tubetech CL1B
@@nc950 Be sure to restart your DAW after any IDC change.
How do you trigger your daw from console!??

Now let's see the next generation of UA Apollo"s....
I remember my first beer.
Is there a way to record with autotune in luna using the autotune subscription?
No, you need to use the UAD version of the plugin.
@@UniversalAudio is there a way to decrease buffer size so I can record with 3rd party plugins? I can't record the way I would like to.
@@PresyceBaez You can run LUNA in core audio mode and set the buffer to small, then use native plugins.
@@UniversalAudiothis will be a really nice Christmas present for all of the Apollo owners. Just an idea

i have autotune is it the same version or is there a different ua autotune?
The UAD version runs on an Apollo and allows the lowest possible tracking latency.
Is this on spark?
it is not.
what settings produce the least amount of latency?
When using the plug-in as an insert in Console on an Apollo interface you'll get near-zero latency regardless of the settings you use.
@@UniversalAudiothanks. does UAD’s original Autotune Realtime (the one with the white interface) also have zero latency? thats what im using
or do I need to upgrade?
Yes, both versions give near-zero latency when used as an insert in Console.
thanks

Auto-Tune has been updated numerous times since this came out.
Any plans to update the plug-in? This version is old.

grieves sound better with the voxbox
Hip hop... But he was singing
@grieves206 when is this track droppin?!! 🎉🎉
I absolutely hate this type of text. Correction use melody but keep your voice as natural as possible. Sounds like crap. Otherwise yes the guy didn’t need autotune at all sounded fine. They are a little bit delayed and river will now you’re gonna go.
Which interface can run autotune-1176-la2a- deeser and a stock eq at the same time?
Any Apollo using the Legacy versions.
