It's good to see another review from you. I've gotten behind because I lost power and internet for awhile due to Hurricane Helene. I'm trying to get caught up now. I have the blue Southshores 500, and I haven't inked it yet. I fiddled with it enough to know how to fill it; just haven't gotten around to it. I enjoyed the views of your beautiful Fall weather and appreciate your comments concerning the less fortunate; weatherwise.
Nice to see this pen again. Thanks to you and your original reviews, I ended up purchasing three of these: Vermouth, Aurora and Smog. That was four years ago and I haven't written with them since ... time for a revisit! Cheers!
Nice overview of a model that doesn’t get much coverage. I love that PenBBS explores all these different filling systems. Also for maintenance you can remove the whole piston unit from the back. You just need to unscrew the metal outer ring attached to the rear of the acrylic.
I appreciate that penBBS is willing to provide pens with different mechanisms and overall designs. Some are exceptional, some not so much. As you mentioned, most seem to be the same relative size and shape. There are exceptions, of course. The section, though, seems to be the same throughout their models. My favorite is the 323. Love the shape and that it can be eyedropper filled. I never had a 500 model. Can you remove the piston for cleaning and lubrication? My 355 has the same problem as you demonstrated. The piston gets stuck if not used regularly. Maybe the silicone grease coagulates. Great overview, Chris As for the weather, the leaves are just turning here. Nice colors are emerging on the oak trees. The sycamores are falling but are just brown. Although there are invasive, mimosa trees are beautiful and are turning different colors, even white. I have friends and relatives who are going to be hit from Hurricane Milton. None are leaving which makes no sense to me. Hopefully they will make it through the next 24 hours.
Easy to disassemble the 500. The chrome ring unscrews. I removed the piston from the stuck 500, silicone greased it & works well now. The weather will never make sense, only constant is it will always change.
Thanks for this video. Bought the 495 and it’s a beaut! Bought the 500 and it was a disappointment. That filling system is unnecessarily fiddly and I like to post my pens. Thankfully, it didn’t cost me too much and it’s not a bad writer, but I rarely use it.
That was a nice look back at the 500, Chris!! I think it was just after your first review that I got the 500-70SF model, the red/white mottled one since it was the only model available at the time. It's been a while since I've used it, so it may be time to ink it up and use it for a while. Got a question for you - have you ever had experience/used the Hero 856? Comes with either a 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm bent nib. A nice writing pen, but a bit old school squeeze filler where you press the sac directly to fill the pen.
This model is not for me, I prefer 495 "amber is a cat". But guys, if you ever find some model and finish of PenBBS which is not available - above you have can see a reason, why! 😀
My favorite!! The 500 rules!🎉🎉🎉 the chonkiness of it is great!
The 500 Niangao i got from you is my #1 favorite in my whole collection.

Ooh... I don't have any of these! Very cool. Looks a bit fiddly. Really love those resins. Thanks for sharing them, and the great video as always 🙂
Thanks for watching!
That’s my fav PenBBS. I love the (large) size of it and the quirky spring fill. Got 4, they stopped it pretty quick I wish I had more colors.

Have not had a 856. I've had good experience with other Hero pens.
150 Penbbs !!! Im wondering how many pens you own in total?? If you don't mind sharing, of course.
I have never counted, well above 2000.
My guess, four more than the number of inks owned. That is true in my case...
Haven't counted my ink bottles, but 4X sounds about right.
