Lars is a great drummer in a way alot of people don't think about. He doesn't overpower the other instruments he lays back in the background. He gives the other guys in the band a chance to shine in every song. When it's his turn he usually does something you wouldn't think fits and makes it fit that's a great drummer to me.
@@davidtingley9978 Yes, it's like that to me for example. He is a shit drummer nowadays with stupid improvised fills and stuff, back in the day he used to stay as close to the studio versions as possible and that made his Drums sound awesome live. A good example is Ride The Lightning (Live at the Day on the Green - 1985) he was Good. It's just the lack of practice that made him miss beats and do shit Improvised fills. Also not having a ride on your kit is one of the dumbest choices ever.
He tends to overpower the instruments in the mix. (The snare in "Day that Never Comes" is a later example that springs to my mind) Lars's approach doesn't lend itself to tiny details (Fills, cymbal-work) that would necessitate how "close" the drums sound in later releases.
James was raised very sheltered, as his mother was a christian-scientist, so when he finally left home he was utterly unprepared to face the real world. "Do as I say, not as I do" is what he's parents said to him.

James Hetfield is the rhythm guitarist, also on vocals. Lars Ulrich is the drummer, and he and James write most of the music. Kirk Hammett is the lead guitarist that does the solos, and he also contributes and making some of the riffs and stuff. Then right now their bass player is Rob Trujillo, which used to be Jason Newstead, and the legend Cliff Burton was before him. Dave mustaine also used to be their lead guitarist but they kick him out like way back in the early 80’s cuz he was a drunk and caused too many issues even though he was EXTREMELY talented. He went on to start a new band called megadeth which im sure most have heard of. Hope this helps someone!

Wow, I envy you. The only time I remember seeing them play this live was from a YT video of them in Mexico. But I did see Metallica when Cliff Burton was still alive. It was epic to say the very least. I've seen them 15 to 20 times live and I've never seen them do this song and it is definitely in my top 5 Metallica songs. Damage Inc. is still my fav song because it is so heavy. Plus, the middle part with Cliff's bass is so bad ass.
I saw them at the Forum, December 1996. Great show, even though Korn was there. Jonathon had issues with his audio, so no vocals for Korn. It was pretty awesome.

“Battery” super loud, super fast and super awesome, also “Damage Inc” both are on Master of Puppets and they both show off Lars’s talent!!! 👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🤯😎
Saw Metallica for the 2nd time at the first Monsters of Rock in 1988 my senior year of HS on senior ditch day. Is that still a thing? The Scorpions, whom I also loved, were on the list of bands there as well as Van Halen, but VH had Sammy then and I was more of a David Lee Roth fan myself.
Love the reaction and you were right with James. Those are his riffs usually. As to "do as I say, not as I do" In my opinion, parents should lead by example. I totally get doing as you're told but don't tell me not to do something but then do it yourself. That's being a hypocrite. I'm pretty sure that's what James' was trying to say. The song starts so abruptly because it’s supposed to continue from the sudden ending of the previous song on the album, it’s meant for their bassist Cliff burton who passed away
