Been looking for this video forever. I have a Strat(Squier) 7 that I play slide on . Did retuning until it almost juked my bridge. Love the sounds

I came here from an 8-string progressive metal video..... I just watched him play blues on a 7 string.... that's new...

When I started playing slide, I began approaching the guitar in very different ways. Instead of seeing the fretboard as a sequence of horizontal 6 string pattern, I now look at it like 6 different vertical instruments, each with a different voice. That mentality change helped me get better acquainted with the bass and treble strings and when/how to use each. I don't really know what I would do with an extra bass string if I was playing normally but I could definitely see myself using it for slide. I often find myself wishing I could push the last bit of a lick even lower than the open 6th string.

I love the 7 String Guitar. It actually came all the way from Russian hence the name "Russian Guitar" & the original Tuning was Open G (D, G, B, D, G, B, D) so that means the 4th string is your "Pivot string" or Hinge as I call it.

I absolutely agree with you, although I play fairly different music. Neither wanted an Orc sword nor a jazz guitar, so I ended up with a natural looking Ibanez RG 7 string and it's amazing. Looks classic and modern and the 7th string is just a well of inspiration for me

I want a baritone 7 string guitar to loop tracks with a sampler and play bass lines and funk-ish type of guitar lines to different beats.

I like Aslin Dane guitars very much, but I sent a wide neck 6 string that I made from a 7 string to someone in the USA from here in the UK and it was tracked going back and forth past the state it was addressed to, eventually I heard no more and had to refund the buyer... he probably got the guitar a year later and was very happy! There's also the traditional acoustic Russian guitar with 7 strings tuned open G: DGBDGBD. An extra internal string in the voicing.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_guitar
    This idea could be used for a 8 string open E tuned: B, E, G#, B, E, G#, B E

That Low B is the same as a Baritone Guitar hence the name "Baritone Guitar B" so it really extends your Voicings down. Those Humbucker Pickups really eliminate alot of hum, they "Rock"

For Open D you'd need a little bit longer scale length like 28.5 inches

I have one of these in black gloss and the quality surpasses a lot of the more renowned brands. I got it from a clearance sale for £150 after bonding with it. The pickups are Duncan’s and the tone is sublime, especially for the price. So many times I’ve thought about selling it but change my mind after playing it. I read somewhere that the body is based on Naomi Campbell’s torso. I think the wood grain looks better while mine resembles an Orc Sword. The tuning keys are excellent and you’ve captured the clarity of tone in your video. They’re as rare as as a snickers bar in a fat camp

Great video man! Recent blues and country convert that used to play a lot of metal music and has a 7-string "Orc sword" that's been sitting for a while. Definitely going to give this a try.

I just got my first seven string... not intended for metal. I had one about around 2001 with a Floyd. Then I dumped it. Now I don't play metal but thought it would be fun to try something new.

I totally get it some times people use 7 string guitars like its an excuse to detune for metal other times its a great way to keep the movement of scales vertical instead of horizontal by running out of room. I like my 7 strings no more than my 6 and I get that their is a stigma which kinda sucks because we are "musicians" and should promote art instead of degrade it. Kudos to you and i love the aesthetic of the lower horn scoop on the guitar it gives it a very nice look

I'm thinking about getting one myself, and even though I also play metal and punk rock (among other rock subgenres) and that's the main reason I want one, I was wondering how it might work with blues as I tend to default to blues or blues rock/metal. Sounds beautiful! The one I want is a Schecter C-7 in white, doesn't look like an orc sword :P Hopefully it holds up to this one as well.

You can find some pretty good Les Paul or Strat like 7 strings out there, only downside for your stuff is usually EMG's, but those are easy to change

Charlie Trotter I have a cooler idea. Why not take your Open E tuned Guitar & tune all the strings up a minor third so you have Open G Terz Tuning?
