Yall have no idea how bad the ACTUAL book is : The bet is not only based on Hardin having sex with Tessa, but SHOWING THE BLOODY SHEETS AFTERWARDS to his FRIENDS so that he can win the bet. And he actually DOES THAT and then use the money for the appartement they move in together later, absolutely disguting lmao

And so creepy seeing how he's such a mommy's boy and saw her get sexually assaulted in the same years he was experiencing puberty at that time....thats the background of psycho 😳
That part especially was disgusting, like it was at that moment that I tough "nope he's absolute trash girl run! " he's manner of being was just appaling 🤢
That part pissed me off soooo much. True I am on high alert when I talk with strangers, but if I see a homeless person and he or she wants to ask me something I won't scream at them to piss off( they usually ask for spare change). It is rude and terreble, you have no right to be rude to them...
@Spritiualz Once Hardin in high school played a betting game on who they can sleep with women along his friends , he ended up sleeping with one of his friends crushes (I don’t remember if he knew or not but I’m positive he knew about the crush) in revenge the friend leaked the sex tape (in order to get proof that they slept with the betted girl I don’t think it said if the girl knew that Hardin was recording) because of the leaked her Christian parent disowned her. When he told Tessa this he said it was only simply fun for him, and to make matters worse he only felt bad once he imagined Tessa or his mom in that position, so that shows he doesn’t actually care about people unless they have a good relationship with him This is the most messed up he’s been in the books he done some minor things like sabotage Tessa getting a home next to her editor because he doesn’t want her to leave him because he got expelled from school for fighting someone who was close to Tessa he didn’t like (I think I don’t remember the review that well)
*Hardin, after seeing his girlfriend get into a literal fist fight:* "Oy, bruv, you got into a bit of a scrap. That sucks, innit? Let's go upstairs for a snog."
I get the experience with Hardin’s mom was hard on him and should be taken seriously, but why is the assault being made about HIM and not about the mom who was ACTUALLY being assaulted??? What????
@@sarahadeniyi1654 I’m not saying it’s not gonna affect him, and I have no doubt it was indeed very traumatic for him. But the problem is that it’s not about the women whose were assaulted, but instead how the men in her life is affected. Giving him trauma could have been done in many other ways. If you write about sexual assault I believe you have the responsibility to treat the subject very carefully. And respecting the victim is so important.
@Bella Rose it really is terrible when you think about it. Also how the plotline with him sending photos of girls he slept with without their permission was only there so a girl could forgive him, and absolve him of guilt.
Honestly the thing of "the nightmares stopped when he started being with you" is so toxic. I recently left a relationship where my ex would often say "oh, you help me with my trauma" and the whole "I haven't had nightmares since we started dating", and they use that as a way to guilt you into staying and feel bad if you even consider leaving. It's so bad.
I once had a friend who was in a situation where their toxic partner would tell them that nightmares would start when they were having issues. A reversal of equal amounts of toxicity. (That relationship is over and done with, so good news there)
@Black Ninja not really, which made it hard to see all the manipulation. He help us out when my mom went to the hospital, helped me study for hours, always gave me ginger ale and saltines when I was sick. However, that doesn’t change the fact that he was very controlling. He was constantly manipulating me, making me doubt myself and focus only on him-he was very smart, sadly.
It’s movies 😀 they had Noah from the kissing booth get into Harvard even with his terrible behavior and even made Elle get into both Berkeley and Harvard which are like top schools in the country, with her TERRIBLE college essay.
So wait... Tessa was a freshman in college in the last movie. And it's been a month since their break up and she just doesn't go to classes anymore? And Hardin too? And she's about to move to Seattle to work for this publishing company? Wat?!
The way Hardin kicked the door was ALMOST like the director wants the dramatic scene but was like "don't break the door so we don't have to pay the hotel for damages" 😂

As a 17 year old still at a pretty impressionable age, I agree that this is very toxic for younger audiences. My friend of the same age loved the books for years now, and doesn’t see the problem with it. She now has a crush on Nate Jacobs from euphoria, who is a straight up abusive character. Luckily she has never dated, but it makes me worried for when she does.
A CRUSH ON NATE JACOBS??? THE MAN WHO SENT AN INNOCENT MAN TO JAIL AND QUITE LITERALLY CHOKED HIS GIRLFRIEND???? I am so concerned for her omg I don't think I have ever hated a character as much as I hate him
i hate the bad guys=hot bf narrative like ive had crushes on the bad guys in stories only cause i found them attractive and didnt really think about their awful personality, but like if u crush on an evil character- knowing their personality and liking the evil, that’s a bit concerning
Sadly it has been decades since this has become the populair theme and whenever there is a female character that goes against this, she is called names and they point out that no one will like her. Or they over do it and she becomes the mean girl type. Men just havent caught up with the fact that women dont want to play these roles anymore. Sure I want to help you, but if my help is the only thing you are getting for a serious problem you are having, I'm out.
@@fightingmedialounge519 yes but in movies its usually men writing them. Then these women watch those movies and think this is how people want women and relationships to be. Some see it and want to show everyone that not all women are like this, so the main character is "not like other girls", but still keep the male character the same and the struggles the same. So it ends up being toxic, no matter how "quirky" she is
The fact that the intern got her own office, dragged away to a party to get an investor on her FIRST day, a makeover and got a SUITE for a hotel room on that trip is just SO UNREALISTIC and funny.

Also, let's not forget to mention that fans of this series were literally hating on the woman who directed the first film because she cut out a bunch of sex and nudity. People were so happy when she got replaced with a man because he took advice from all the horny folks who wanted to see Hardin and Tessa do the do...a cuss up a storm.

As a former wattpad lurking, badly-written-smut reading 13 year old, I can almost completely guarantee that the people who demanded more sex scenes were of the same demographic. I was around back when After was all the rage on wattpad and a large majority of the readers were very young girls who only read it because it was a Harry Styles fanfic and 1D was incredibly popular back then. I remember reading comments from 12 year olds demanding more sex in future chapters. These kids have no idea what sex or real relationships are like, that's why they see After as such a great and complex love story, when all it really is, is a crappy and cliché self-insert fanfic (I remember Anna Todd admitting she imagined herself in Tessa's place whenever she wrote the sex scenes. Disturbing considering Anna is a grown, married woman and Harry was still very young at the time.) with shitty writing and an incredibly toxic relationship. Unfortunately, that same demographic is still prevalent with stories like this. It's honestly concerning.
“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same” how DARE they smear that iconic line from wuthering heights, Emily bronte would not be here for this, and neither am I
I read a comment on another commentary video on the movie that his accent makes it sound like "it's what arseholes are made of," and I can't hear it any other way now 🤣🤣🤣😂.
Which is why I prefer those "boring love story" novels which hard to find and rarely publish because of popularity. I also prefer anime cuz a lot of them have nice guys as love interest lol
Yes! I’ve been thinking and saying this. He hated the role and the fans just get mad and say no he’s amazing!!! But his delivery is awful. Like he’s struggling to say the lines cos he hates it lol and i do not blame him.
One of the saddest things about this movie is that when Trevor looked up a car that would be cheaper for Tessa instead of her taking ubers , is more than what Hardin has done for his entire “relationship” with Tessa 🤦🏽♀️😭
Also I hate how the movies act like they are Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy because the bickering dislike to love thing, but Mr Darcy isn't a brooding bad boy, he's just a bit stuck up and socially awkward, and moreover he drinks that Respect Women Juice™ by listening to Elizabeth calling him out on bad behaviour and changing for the better
I think people misunderstand the fantasy isn't (just) his wit and most of his bad boy behavior stems from prejudice and his own awkwardness. The fantasy of Mr Darcy is telling a man he fucked up so he listens and changes. (Also all the themea but I contend that's the most fantasy part about Darcy
Right! I never got through the book because the slow paste makes my ADHD-arse want to crawl out of my own skin. But the impression I got is that the bickering between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth shows how compatible they actually are? She doesn't hesitate to give as much as she gets in their discussions and in a weird way they are each others equals in those moments? And they are both at fault when things go to shit and has to be fixed . Like they actually deserve each other in the end? They deserve the people they have become though the time they've spent and learnt with each other?
It was a misunderstanding to begin with because they are awkward people! Darcy gets his head out of his ass, re-assesses, stops being an idiot! Why don't people get it? I really hate the bickering dislike to love trope. It can work, but not often. People take away just the bickering and not the self-improvement
I would just like to apologize, when I was 14 I asked the universe to make this a movie. This is when it was a watt pad book still. Once again I'm sorry

As a someone who has been on Wattpad for 2 years and is an aspiring writer on the app, there are SO many others stories/series to choose from. So disappointing that this is what they chose.
I keep wondering why we only see the most terrible fanfics getting a movie deal. Is it perhaps because it would take actually effort and a decent budget to make?
@@carriesnaps3508 probably because drama sells and is an easy moneygrab. There are some amazing fanfics out there, but they have much more dept and there is no way to get that into an hour and a half movie. They would have to cut a lot of the character development and would end up only keeping the drama parts. And without context those would most likely also seem toxic
I was thinking that!? Surprised Kennie didn't pick up on it. Google is right there if they really insisted on not interacting with any people of colour in real life (my assumption considering the stereotypes in this).
The subtitle actually says “Jiang” not “ Jung”. Jiang is a Chinese last name. As a mandarin speaker it was extra cringy watching that character yelling Chinese in the middle of this unseasoned, bland ass movie. Ugh
The plot of (what I've read of) the fanfic is basically this. Entirely toxic, way too much drama. However, unlike the movie, the sex scenes were nice. And they were nice while being vanilla, so that's something. Eventually not even that was enough to keep my interest tho lmfao
I like the watt pad story years ago when it initially was released but I haven’t gone back since and I think it’s a wise decision to leave it that way as a memory of the past

And it's only been a month since the last movie??? Like I don't know if i'm stupid but I'm very confused with the timeline lmao
In the books, that’s how it is. She is still a freshman and she gets the job/internship which if i recall correctly, was because hardin’s dad knew the owner of the publishing place since they were long time friends and then hardin got mad about his dad helping her and says he could’ve helped her blah blah blah. But yeah super unrealistic, are we surprised though lol
Did anyone notice that they used every fanfic trope ever in this?? “Forgot the underwear” “I didn’t tell me mom we broke up so we pretend to date yo keep her happy” like???
"Is he someone's son?" This is so funny because while I don't think his parents are particularly popular, his uncle is literally Ralph Fiennes. So yes. He kind of is.
His mom isn’t well known but she’s a film director, his uncle Joseph is also an actor (from Shakespeare in Love) and his grandfather is a famous photographer. Dude is like peak nepotism lol
I find it interesting that Anna Todd wrote Harry Styles as the most abusive pos who treats women like objects meanwhile the real Harry is out here in dresses, saying “screw toxic masculinity” and blocking her on Twitter 😂👏🏻

“Its a story passed down through the Greeks, Shakespeare, the Brontës...” I’m gonna assume he’s talking about “The Kidnapping of Persephone/Prosperina”, “Taming of the Shrew” and “Jane Eyre”
@@rila5319 Each one is a love story based on the authors he mentioned -the story of Hades and Persephone came from Greek mythology, the "Taming of the Shrew" is Shakespeare and "Jan Eyre" is Brontë. Each one features a "tortured dark" male love interest that display various degrees of abuse but its romanticized by literature. Kind of ironic.
I was convinced it was fake, like there's no way the guy actually sounds like that even if he is British and .... i checked an interview and this is basically how he sounds maybe just a tad more forced
I love how in the film Hardin says “I’m not the one taking advantage of drunk girls” and then he does things with her. Knowing that she’s drunk. Amazing😂 just wow.
In that whole intro, he talks about Shakespeare, Austen, and Brontes having some form of a cohesive story and central theme about love. Now... as a literature major, that line is BULLSHIT! The man is just spouting famous authors' names associated with love like a desperate college student trying to act smarter than he is in front of the teacher. Like, it is a truth universally acknowledged that Emily Bronte hated the small banal love that Austen wrote, while Austen went out of her way to mock the high drama of Romantic love in Northanger Abbey. And every love story that Shakespeare wrote are usually just vehicles for puns, slapstick, and meta-commentary or Romeo and Juliet, a story about teenagers who are idiots and since society was too wrapped up in their own ego, didn't care about how they felt and ergo they died. I, therefore, conclude that Harden/writer in fact knows jack shit and is full of hot air.
This!! People like to romanticize these writings even though the authors really made jokes about it and making fun of it all. Like people not understanding that Shakespeare's meaning of "small wit" literally meant the person had a small one.
I love how a man who is very vocal about having respect for women, toxic masculinity and objectifying women gets portrayed as a man with no respect for Tessa (and women in general), having all of the toxic traits there are, sleeping with a drunk girl and beating girls (I'm talking about the non-carbs girl). Tessa’s mother’s scene was so awkward because the actress, Selma Blair, was diagnosed with MS after the filming for the first movie and is struggling heavily with it. So this was the only way she could be included
The guy playing Hardin comes from a famous acting family. His uncle is lord Voldemort and he played young Tom riddle in the 6th movie of the Harry Potter franchise.
@Black Ninja none of the young Tom riddles/Voldemort could compete with chamber of secrets Tom Marvolo Riddle ( got to put some respect on his name) LOL.

I'm gonna write a movie. It'll be about a virginial good girl who falls in love with a bad boy with a dark past. They'll enter into a toxic love affair, in which all of the man's traumas and misgivings will be forgiven, resulting in them slowly progressing to having sex. Both of them will also become worse people by proxy of them knowing each other. Do you think Hollywood would buy it?
@@ayannabranchcomb7535 I'll add both! A sassy gay friend and a black friend who's rife with good advice that'll be completely ignored. That'll be the essence of both of their characters, because what else do you need? Agency, personality, a backstory? Pfft. Everyone will forget their names by the end of the movie anyway, because they'll only be mentioned once in passing; but that's okay because they're not the main protagonist anyway. They're just the moral support. Pay me, Hollywood!
I could be wrong, but I'm assuming they had Selma Blair (the mother on the phone) acting from the waist up because she has multiple sclerosis and can find it difficult to walk and speak. I'm happy to see she was able to get an acting role, however minor, despite facing such an uphill battle.

@@sweetbunnybun her inspiration for after was cruel intentions, so much so, that she got the director of cruel intentions to direct this movie. Which is funny because her characters are literally cheap rip-offs with no development.
Whew Chile, the ghetto. This movie was worse than the first one and that’s saying a lot. I am so sick and tired of the bad boy/good girl trope and the idea that you can fix someone. You can’t, the only person who can fix them, are they themselves. It was worrisome every time in the movie someone would say “I’ve never seen him this happy before,” Tess is his life line and that’s not a good thing. A relationship can’t heal you. Hardin is an alcoholic who depends on Tess to be his everything. Meanwhile, their relationship is merely just *lust* nothing more, nothing less. And I’m sorry but the actors in this movie remind me of fifty shades of grey, they’re lackluster in appearance.

When he told Tessa this he said it was only simply fun for him, and to make matters worse he only felt bad once he imagined Tessa or his mom in that position, so that shows he doesn’t actually care about people unless they have a good relationship with him
This is the most messed up he’s been in the books he done some minor things like sabotage Tessa getting a home next to her editor because he doesn’t want her to leave him because he got expelled from school for fighting someone who was close to Tessa he didn’t like (I think I don’t remember the review that well)

Because of 🌟REASONS*🌟

It's honestly concerning.

you know who does this trope correctly? sokka and suki

That was a beautiful short answer thesis that you've written! I completely agree although I am not a literature major
This!! People like to romanticize these writings even though the authors really made jokes about it and making fun of it all. Like people not understanding that Shakespeare's meaning of "small wit" literally meant the person had a small one.

For real she was an adult when writing this on wattpad. If she was a teenager some parts of the story would make more sense lol
OMG I just look her up. How the hell is she 31? Who writes 1D fanfic in their mid twenties? I thought a 15 year old wrote that. I just can't.
@@GeliPeter I think she lied about her age ? Or something
@@GeliPeter lol right like I stopped writing fan fic in general when I was 18 lol cause I was "grown" I'm 27 now and I actually write fantasy novels. I am currently ripping my novel apart with edits :D gotta make it great and slightly ya know believable

Tessa’s “Harden’s Mother” has the same energy as “The Doctor from the Hospital” from your Fateful Findings episode. That is why it is so weird for me.
if i was her, i'd be like - bitch, you don't even know why name? it's like saying - aw it's your dog or hi grocery store classier.
"The president of the bank"
“How did he get this job?” NEPOTISM! He’s a Fiennes offspring! I hate it here! 🤣🚮
Tessa’s mother’s scene was so awkward because the actress, Selma Blair, was diagnosed with MS after the filming for the first movie and is struggling heavily with it. So this was the only way she could be included

They made molly more attractive than Tessa and Trevor more attractive than Hardin. That’s where they went wrong as well.
Right, molly is pretty.
@@kilimanjaro5537 really pretty
The guy playing Hardin comes from a famous acting family. His uncle is lord Voldemort and he played young Tom riddle in the 6th movie of the Harry Potter franchise.
@Black Ninja lmao
@Black Ninja none of the young Tom riddles/Voldemort could compete with chamber of secrets Tom Marvolo Riddle ( got to put some respect on his name) LOL.
@Black Ninja Yes! Now you making me want to watch the whole series again plus read all the books
@Black NinjaSee I told myself to watch the 1st one before Halloween was over and forgot to. 1-4 are the best, downhill after that. I turn the rest of the movies on as background noise. The series is great for this season tho. Definitely gonna watch them before the end of the holidays.
@Black Ninja Thank you I will!
That letter at the end. Does he thinks he’s Mr. Darcy?
LMAO😭😭
It’s cause he’s British
@@panicontheargo7034 yes I get that, but you don’t compete were you don’t compare

Ok but they kinda look alike too
And it still would’ve been a better delivery 😂
Finally someone connected them I've been thinking about this
He looks like Danny Gonzalez too. I thought they were the same person until he spoke, then I wasn't sure why Danny was using a British accent.
How could he kick open a door with squishy bones!?
I'm gonna write a movie. It'll be about a virginial good girl who falls in love with a bad boy with a dark past. They'll enter into a toxic love affair, in which all of the man's traumas and misgivings will be forgiven, resulting in them slowly progressing to having sex. Both of them will also become worse people by proxy of them knowing each other.
Do you think Hollywood would buy it?
Sprinkle in a gay/black bestie that only exists to be an emotional soundboard for one of the mc’s and you’re golden sweetie 💖
@@ayannabranchcomb7535
I'll add both!
@@kirikakirikakirika Why not just combine em? A sassy Black gay friend-Hollywood will love it lmao
@@XxxMuseluverxxX killing all the birds with one stone 😂

I could be wrong, but I'm assuming they had Selma Blair (the mother on the phone) acting from the waist up because she has multiple sclerosis and can find it difficult to walk and speak. I'm happy to see she was able to get an acting role, however minor, despite facing such an uphill battle.
Niiice
I'M SO HAPPY SOMEONE ADDRESSED HOW HORRENDOUS THAT GOLD DRESS WAS OMG, you never disappoint 😂
And "She had the nerve to wear those ugly ass shoes down the runway--" too 🤣🤣🤣. I know I sound dramatic but I choked back a gasp when I saw that outfit. Didn't they bring her out shopping hours before to like, get her ready for the 'big party'?? 😆😁
And +10 for Kennie calling the matching booties "leprechaun shoes", it was a spot on description 🤣🤣😆
@Grace Stehling i love ppl that comment this stuff so much like even tho it’s not me it makes me so happy :DDD
Lol when I read the book that’s not how I imagined that dress to look. She isn’t as hot as she is described in the book.
@@arisworld6711 I think the actress is gorgeous and would look way hotter if they just styled her better.
The fact that the author who said, “Oh, this and that” when asked what books she’s written, is actually Anna Todd....
But why did she say “this and that” 😂 Imagine asking someone what they do for work and answering “Oh, here and there” ☠️🤣

Voldemort. Voldemort is his literal uncle. And he played the kid version of him. That's how he got the role. Good...old...nepotism.
Mind blown!! But that also makes so much sense...
This so gross. Little Tom Riddle is making problematic sex movies. He is related to Ralph Fiennes who plays Voldemort.
He also played Tom Riddle in the orphanage
Saddening 💀
Ahhhh..... And now, the circle is complete. Also, so SAD. He was incredibly good as mini Voldemort. SHAME to these movies!
Yeah, but he didn't get Ralph's acting skills.
fun fact the woman who was asked how many books she wrote in the club is actually anna todd the author of the book
she prolly read 2-3 shitty books and one of them was 50 shades of grey. because the book is even worse than a movie, no way that a person who read good books can come up with that shit. I'm not even talk about the writing style, I'm talking about characters and how they behave

@@martinalfaro4427 yes
@@martinalfaro4427 read this in the, “is mayonnaise an instrument,” voice
As an athlete who has had to go on Keto for health reasons I can TESTIFY that not eating carbs has made me an evil mean person and I don’t wish that on anyone. Stay safe out there.
Thank you for your service and being a dedicated athlete
