In my opinion this is one of the largest problems we have as a society and we need more people taking initiative to repair their possessions rather than throwing them out and buying new ones. There is so much information accessable to society now days because of people like yourself making tutorial videos like this explaining step by step exactly how someone can go about fixing things instead of buying a new one and throwing the old ones in already crowded landfills. Thank you, I needed this exact video to fix my own blower motor in my truck after continuously replacing resistors every year knowing that someday I would eventually need to get down to the actual problem causing my blower to only work on the highest setting.

Just fixed a 2006 titan blower motor after watching this. It was a different procedure but I took sand paper to clean the spot the brushes touch and it works! Thanks from Hawaii!

I gave this video a thumbs up because it’s lucky! My blower hasn’t worked all day and I was watching this video sitting in my car and the blower started working again!!!

excellent video ..... i can add a couple of pointers ...the commutator bars you are talking about on the end of the armature should be sanded until shiny then take a pick and clean the mica from between the bars not too much just below the copper bar surface then test for continuity from one bar to the next there should be no ground...that black soot is what mainly is the problem its arching and not making good contact...hope this helps

It happened exactly like the video for my 2002 Deville!! Exactly!! I beat the dash a few times, went around to the passenger seat and....... Boom!! Blower is blowing coolness down here in Fort Worth, Texas.

Thank you sir for this video! I fixed my stuck blower motor thanks to this gem posted 4 years ago. My Toyota Tacoma 2007 has a similar motor. Followed step by step and cleaned that sucker very well. Now it's blowing air like a champ!

I almost spent close to $200 to replace the HVAC Blower on my daughter's Deville... Then I found your video. I can not tell you how many instructional videos I have used over the years. I can tell you that yours was above and beyond with clarity and precise instructions along the way. I do wish that you included how to clean the brushes and armature - but I do feel that if someone has gone this far, they can figure out to use 500grit sandpaper to clean brushes ect. Well done, thank you

Since you were in there anyway, you should've applied oil to the felt wicks that surround the front and rear bushings. It really extends the life of the motor.

It always helps to index the parts before removing them. I always oil the felt with 3in1 oil and a tiny dab of grease on the other shaft bushing. If you have concerns about stripping the threads, reassemble by hand! Hope it worked, you didn't seem to find a fault. Possibly dirty commutator. The one on my XLR is squealing. Cannot get at the top bushing or get fan off the shaft. I spray lubed it as best I could but still isn't quiet.

You don't have to remove the blower blade [squirrel cage fan] or front motor casing. Just remove the rear cap (2 screws) and retract the carbon brushes (as you did) to remove the circuit board. This allows enough exposure to brush out most of the caked on dust (mostly carbon byproducts from the half-worn brushes) and blow out the rest with compressed or canned air. Clean the metal inner contacts with (e.g.) CAIG DeOxit then reassemble. Do the cleaning outdoors. The brown dust on some surfaces tested positive for buckministerfullerene, whose heath effects are not known [The black dust on other parts is just soot]

This repair works. I had a noisy fan, which became intermittent to start (bang dash to start), which became fully inoperative. Removing the fan is an easy procedure. 6 total bolts, 8mm and 6.5mm. Remove motor, blow clean, re-install. Boom. All better.
