was watching your bluetooth video, and my next thought was that someone should make a usb-c mod. and here we are. i wouldn't do it right now because i wouldn't be able to use the two ipod-specific accessories i have that still work, but i don't guess i'd really need them any more either (esp. once bluetooth is done). the soldering here is a tad more delicate than i'm comfortable attempting myself anyway
awesome dude thats a great tutorial! was just looking for a vid to confirm the pinout i found online but this is way more helpful, cant wait to make a fancy lil ipod mini it seems the cheapest model to fully spiff up. Question tho, the board u used and linked does NOT have the required resistors for type c to type c charging correct? looking at alliexpress 1s similar to those and some adafruit breakout boards that def have them included but have a slightly worse footprint. ty !
The device still needs itunes to be useful, crazy how apple was able to make a repairable device of this degree concidering today with serialized parts
Actually i have found a really good iTunes alternative called foobar 2000 + the ipod plugin. Its way less buggy for copying music to the device and also has a way to copy music off of the iPod too. Only thing it cant do is reset the iPod.
@partspluspods3689 I'm on linux not sure such a thing would work for me most stuff is just clinging to windows as always so not aware of alot of software since about windows 7 days last used windows in 2020 with 10
@@SykxeznYou could install a Rockbox firmware instead, this would take a hit in the ease of use for the iPod but it adds a lot of features to the iPod as well as making it a drag and drop player that you can just see in your file manager.
I would love to do this, and I love that its very basic and straightforward XD but my hands can not do that anymore. I wonder how much it would be to make pcbs that basically cover the whole pad area, pretty much just a type c "replacement socket" like replacing a 30pin normally. That would also allow mounting something that plugs the new bottom gap.
Hey! Just wondering if you ever made progress with the 30 pin to usbc custom board that solder’s direct to the board? Please sell me some if you managed to get them made!! Love the channel bro 👊
yeah i looked into it actually. But i think usb c needs an ic chip to communicate with in order to output 12v so its to complicated for me at this stage
yeah you could although the soldering would be a bit trickier i think. You would also have to cut an additional hole or 3d print a different rear housing although i might try that in the future.
this specific mod has no audio through the USB c port. Although it is possible to do if you use a different USB c board and put another 2 wires. I might do another video in the future that features that.
yeah that's the biggest downside of this mod. Although most people probably dont use a firewire charger they seem to work a little better from my experience. USB-C is capable of doing 12V if you have the right circuit board. It requires a special chip to communicate with the charging brick on the other end so it may be possible to do a USB-C mod that hooks up to the 12V firewire pins.
Wow skipping two generations of proprietary Apple connectors!
a lot less complicated than I thought! to think that only 4 pins out of the 30 are used for data transfer! very cool!
whoa, much more involved than I expected.
Are you still stuck with USB 2.0 transfer speeds? Lmao
@@blinddudedc i think. usb 3.0 requires a lot more pins. i didn't even know you could do usb c on 4 pins
giving a bluetooth mod sounds good. nice conversion job
This is cool! Thanks for sharing this what seems like a successful attempt!
What's up with Aussies and iPods?? 😆🤣

@@partspluspods3689 MediaMonkey works well also. It's great music library management software in its own right, but supports iPods as a bonus.
@@partspluspods3689 thank you! i needed this since i was getting really tired of iTunes
Awesome work! Wish I would be able to do it by myself too
May I request a line-out mod? It’s just two more wires.
I may make a mod board for this
There is one already from oxyl mods his is centered as well.
it is really annoying that it is off centred@@kyler6161

It would be great if you can put a speaker beside the type-c port
Excellent video! Thanks

now firewire charging could be replaced by 12v PD in theory

Do you think you could do this to a iPod Mini? I saw a post that someone has done it, but I know I wouldn't attempt to my own device.
Hello, how did you update your iPod to 2.0?
the 6th gen are specials for charging on wall bricks. Pc always charge it
Does iPod Accessory mode work? That uses pins other than the data pins.
This video is hype basically.
Can't wait for when you are able to impliment into your kits.
is there a upgrade service for this?
is it possible to do this mod while also keeping the 30-pin connector?

@@partspluspods3689 YIPPEE 💪💪 tysm for answering my questions dude, ur a G
Would the USB-C mod still work with a car iPod interface or is it now aux only?

Does the support iPod classic 5th gen
yeah its the exact same process on the 5th gen
a Bluetooth usbc ipod with 1tb storage is the dream lol
whooo mate thats as crusty as it gets but i love it !
Imma sit this one out
great video!! it would be crazy to do it on an iphone 2g
Good idea, I actually have one sitting in my drawer. Might be a potential future video.
Wow fixing something that isn't broken
Would it been easier to create a 30 pin adapter
This is how the Bluetooth iPod died. Wade attempted it & failed.
Too cool every time even if the technique is too complicated for me 😅
You will definitely lose FireWire charging by doing this, which means if you accidentally over drained the battery, you will have to change it out.

Hey mate, answer your emails will you, I want to give you some business but need to clarify a couple of things!
Lol it's ugly now.
