Just wanted to comment and stay thanks for providing this method. You definitely could have just sold Bluetooth Backcases without providing the process method but you showed us the way. Ive modded 3 ipods with mostly your method and they have worked great. Thanks
Hi, great job as usual and very ingenious, it's interesting. I tested but I have a problem, it crackles and yet I hear the music. Do you know where this could come from? thanks
Thanks so much for the great tutorial! Enjoyed the songs you've got on your pod too :) Was curious if a voltage regulator could help my iPod out? I followed the instructions and it works, but the bluetooth signal seems to skip a lot and struggle...especially if in my pocket. I took off the reflective metal sheet for the LCD and that seems to help. Also as a PSA if you're considering this mod--- i can say as someone just learning to solder, this was an intense introduction! I'm really happy I did it and feel confident in soldering basic things now, but I wouldn't want to repeat it. If you don't feel like learning the skills, I'd highly recommend buying the completed board instead. Also, as someone new to soldering, I didn't realize you can heat the wire which you then push through the bluetooth board via the wire's heat. I got stuck because I had solder over the hole and no way of removing it. A solder wick would've helped. Thanks again for the vid
Hey, if your earphones are cutting out you can try repositioning the wires inside the device. Make sure they are well always from the antenna on the bluetooth module as they can cause interference. Although for the best range it is recommended to install an additional antenna and cut off the built in one. watch my ipod classic 6/ 7th gen guide that i put out recently where i show how to do that. The range will be similar to your phone.
If I made a small additional hole for the pair button would I be able to retain functionality of the lock switch? While also still being able to use the lock switch to turn the Bluetooth module on/off?
Isn't there a way to make the BT transmitter turn ON and OFF with the sleep mode of the iPod? Probably a 5v pin among the 30 pins or a capacitor that goes on and off with the screen?
Thank you for an awesome vid! Using the same board followed the instructions - However have repair the Bluetooth every time I turn on and off- is this normal?
can we use the clicker speaker as a bluetooth power switch - when we off the clicker speaker, buletooth is "off" and if the clicker is on - BT is "on"?
This is an incredible mod! I have seen couple of bluetooth mods before, but most of them involved logic board soldering. This one is really great having everything within back plate. Just wondering if the signal is still ok? I have seen people making holes to get a better bluetooth signal. Also do you think you can link the push button? Or at least size? Thanks!!!
The signal seems to be ok on the classic 5 probably because the front is still plastic, the earphones make it to the other end of the room without disconnecting. I tried it on the classic 6/7th gen too but the signal was much weaker although my bluetooth earphones aren't that good either so i will have to test it with a better pair. As for the button it is a standard 6x6x5mm tactile push button. Here is a link: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_m0960MC. You can also find them at most electronics shops too
Unscrew the hold switch on one side add a push button under it so you have both the hold switch and the power button for Bluetooth board. Then put pairing button underneath the headphone jack and always have a pin to push the pairing button in through the power button this way you still have a hold switch.
Great idea with the power button! but do not understand the pairing button location "Then put pairing button underneath the headphone jack and always have a pin to push the pairing button in through the power button " can you help me out?
I think I know what you ment. There is a hole in audio jack so you can use a long pin to trigger pairing if one positions pairing button under the audio barrel
@@Vendoization pretty simple relocate the actual power button that come on the board to where the 3.5 jack goes. when an ear jack enters... it depresses the button. you keep all functionality, and have an opening to access a button to pair
Nice to meet you! I am Japanese! Your ideas are great! This is the ideal Bluetooth customization. I have one question, where can I buy a Bluetooth push button? I would be happy if you could tell me the URL of Ali Express.
Hi there - is it easy enough to transfer the premade kit into another backplate? I want to move the whole assembly into a custom 1TB marked thin backplate and not break anything. Any special adhesives used in the assembly I’d have to worry about?
So just to be 100% sure. I need to buy new „shell” for my iPod, I can buy thin one and be able to put bt, Taptic, 3000mah battery and usb C (but on top of it, don’t want to lose the old one at the bottom)? Or should I just buy the thick one but also buy a headphone port? To put it simply, in which it will be easier to fit everything, using parts listed in your videos? 🧐
you can diffidently fit a 3000mah battery, iflash quad, bluetooth and a taptic engine in the slim version. Although you will have to use the ipod mini taptic engine as its the smallest. USB-C is pretty difficult mod however, i would recommend attempting it unless you are very good at soldering and already have the right tools. It may fit with the rest of the mods but it depends which board you go with.
@@partspluspods3689 I am not master of solder. That is why I would not replace the original usb. I want to try to add it at the top as in moonlit classic connect kit. So it will be second one to use. I hope the board from your link will fit. If not, I will need to order a new one. But I’m struggling with finding which one. Also the link for what you use to protect the soldering is not working anymore.
is it okay if we just drill a hole in the back cover on the same location of the pair button (like the position of the reset button of Sony Walkman)? I am planning to do that
This is a cool mod. Im wondering if any of the remote functions work over the bluetooth connection such as Play/Pause, Skip track forward and back or Volume up and Down.
I am new to this small level of wire and soldering, what gauge are you using? I am not finding info about it anywhere and I have no clue. I have a lot of 22 awg insulated, but I feel like thats wayyyy to big for this.
have you find any way to lock the ipod? I feel that it's a pity to sacrifice lock button. I'm new with ipod. Can it be lock via software via rockbox or via timeout?
Hello, greetings from Brazil I watched your bluetooth mod video on the iPod 5th gen. Could you help me? My battery doesn’t have soldering points, it’s different from the one shown in the video. Can I send you photos of it and you can tell me where to solder the wires? Another thing, can I do the mod and still use the lock button? When I press the lock button, could it turn off Bluetooth? I found another place for the push button I made a small hole in the housing with the exact size of the button. I would like to keep the locking function. Would that be possible? I would appreciate if you could help 😅 Thanks
Is there any reason you couldn't leave the lock switch functional here? You're not actually changing the wiring to the switch, you could do the push button under it and just have a less easily accessible but still functioning lock slider surely?
I’m guessing it being used as and on/off switch for the Bluetooth instead. I don’t know if you can have that and also have it lock the iPod. Because if you did then you’d just be Turning Bluetooth on and off all the time.
just to make sure you're clear, if i'm already using rockbox (which i do), and you turn off the ipod completely by holding the pause/play button, that'll turn off the bluetooth device completely? if that's the case, then i won't have to worry about the hold switch if i ever get around to doing this
Hello, no the bluetooth board will stay powered even if the iPod is off as its wired directly to the battery. Im thinking if i do the USB-C mod as well i might be able to mount a switch beside it as there will be a lot more free space next to it, then i will be able to keep the lock switch aswell without it looking to ugly.
I havent actually tested it but i assume not. The solo wont fit with the 3000mah battery because it uses the regular size SD card slots which the iflash dual uses as well. Whereas the quad has micro SD card slots instead. Also that unbranded dual micro SD adapter that can be found on aliexpress doesn't fit either with the 3000mah battery.
if you use the same board i used here and wire it up the same way i did the background noise shouldn't be that bad. but you can use a dc - dc isolator to lessen the noise even more. if you watch my latest video, the ipod classic 4th gen bluetooth mod, i used one of those there and put a link to buy it in the description. It improved it pretty substantially.
@@partspluspods3689 some were saying to jump the two grounds together. That worked. I don’t know why, other than a possible ground loop is what that noise is.
no the iflash solo wont fit with the slim version as it uses full sized SD cards and is thicker than the quad. The only adapter that will fit with the slim version is the iflash quad.
asking another question because i'm about to do this mod here pretty soon, i don't plan on doing the power switch mod, but does that mean the bluetooth board is going to be on even if the ipod is completely shut off? is there a ground point on the ipod i should wire up to to avoid that?
yeah it will be powered on at all times if there is no switch. I wouldnt recommend it as it could drain the battery past the point where it wont charge back up. You could cut a hole in the rear housing to mount a button although it may look to DIY. But you could also use a Bluetooth board that has the ability to be turned off by holding down the pair button. See my ipod classic 4th gen bluetooth mod to see how to do that. Or my speaker mod video i mounted a switch next to the USB-C board.
Would the "Bluetooth Upgrade Kit For Apple iPod Classic 5th Gen" also work on 7th gen classic IPods? im assuming I can get a custom plastic front plate and get better bluetooth signal?
Yes it is working on the 7th gen as well. the first time i tested it i was using some low quality earbuds and the range wasn't good, but i have since tested it with a better pair and it is working properly!
