I am impressed at the dedication to preserving the 30pin connector - as someone who still uses the largest 30pin peripheral ever: the 2006 MIni Cooper (not only is there a 30pin connector in the glovebox, but this generation of ipods recognizes it in the firmware :-) (I've never done anything more advanced to the ipod than battery swaps myself...)

This looks incredible. If the iPod were to be re-released now, I hope it'd look half as good as this. The touch wheel and charger especially are so wild to see. Truly stunning.
Incredible is all I have to say. The idea of having an iPod classic like this one and being able to listen to all your favorite old tunes on your existing wireless headphones is too exciting to even think about. Not to mention coming back home after a long day and tossing the iPod on your wireless charging station… simply beautiful
You know the work with HD650 wired now that's great. Also without having to go through the soldering there's also moonlit market iPod USB c charging BT and 2000mah battery but not cheap but cheaper than 3d printers
That iPod looks absolutely incredible! I love the wireless charging! You have inspired me sir! Whether I win or not, I plan to do the following mods… I have two 5th gen iPods and I plan to do the Bluetooth mod, the transparent case, transparent click wheel, new battery, new screen, and after seeing how well your iPod came out, I also would like to attempt to add wireless charging and I will paint the battery and the frame as well. For the second 5th gen iPod I plan to replace the case with a new one that retains the original look. I will of course upgrade the battery, add Bluetooth, and replace the screen and click wheel. I also have an iPod Hi-Fi and a 20” iMac G4 that I would love to pair these iPods up with! Thanks for the great video, I’m looking forward to seeing your future projects!

I would not be surprised if he somehow was able to give the ipod wireless access to iTunes. It's amazing to see how a relatively old electronic device can be retrofitted with new parts to give it new life and functionality. Amazing 💪
The main mods I plan to do with the board from my 7th gen lying around would be to make an ipod that has a nice colour scheme (maybe black front plate with a yellow clickwheel) with a huge battery and storage size. I understand why iFlash boards are so useful but I find the HDDs fun too. The little noise they make and the feeling of movement in them really differenciates them from other MP3 players of the time. Anyway, very fun video, I really like the wireless charging aspect especially. Means you could realistically have a wireless charger in your bag to charge all your devices!
This video has inspired me to do mods of my own. I have to start off by removing the old spinning disk in my classic and replacing it with flash memory and maybe try the Bluetooth mod. Well, lets see how it goes.
The hold switch toggle is genius! Thanks for the awesome video. I’m about to start working on a fifth and “seventh” gen classic. Great work! Very inspirational.

This is absolutely fantastic. Well done to your dedication to detail. 👍🏆. I am running an old classic iPod still in 2023 with no issues apart from it would benefit from a new battery. Love the clear cover.

Thats just great, amazing work. Now you just need to add the circular magnet-array (can be found everywhere) for it to line up properly when you place it on a magsafe charger
Always loved the classic design, even when it wasn’t the classic. My 80gig is in use everyday and never seems to fail. The battery is far from great but it lives in its dock so this doesn’t matter. Its 120GB sibling has had a bad harddrive for years and is just begging to have modifications like this. After-all 120gb is so small these days :)
Someone should make a wireless charging case for the iPod 5.5 and the final 7th gen. It would have a 3,000mAh battery built into it along with the Qi wireless coil and a Bluetooth module. A case like this would add around 15mm to the bottom and around 15mm to the top of the iPod to account for the 30-pin plug at the bottom and the electronics for the Bluetooth module plugged into the 3.5mm jack at the top of the iPod - and maybe 2-3mm on each side... It would be a great option for the folks who want to breathe more life into their old iPod but aren't brave enough to do the SSD and battery mods us geeky folk have done, and it also adds the functionality of Qi and BT...

Amazing build. I have done flash upgrades but plan to do a Bluetooth mod next. Now I’m wondering if I shouldn’t go all out and do a wireless charging one. You have truly inspired me. If I don’t win a back any ideas of the best place to get one? Have you thought about selling these? Or kits?
Congratulations on the awesome build, I'd throw in USBC since I have no ipod accessories and maybe mill out a space for a colored glass insert instead of the resin back.
Love this, looks super clean! I am a big fan of transparent gadgets. I've got a 5th gen I want to flash mod and maybe battery replace, which is far as I'll go with it but it's fascinating to see how far you can push these old ipods! Definitely a relic of apple's golden era of design.
Amazing project man.. I’d love to flash mod mine some day but probably won’t because parts or shipping aren’t cheap here and neither are iPods, even used ones. But an iPod with wireless charging, proper Bluetooth controls (at least hardware wise) and a huge battery is like the perfect combo.
I’m planning to do the Bluetooth mod on my 5th gen classic. That would be a really nice feature to have of course. Still have to find the courage to do it! I’ve already flash modded my iPod and have also put a big battery in it.
I love this! I've still got my 1st gen iPod I bought with my first Coles paycheques doing nightfill :D I would love to give it a second life with the Bluetooth and SD card mod.
Have started to refurbish/enhance my iPod by adding a SSD, new battery and a new front/back cover. Also, I started looking for iPod docking stations and also couldn’t find my 30-pin cable. I have 4 docking stations, two installed on two tube amps and two spare, but the ones I found on eBay and AliExpress are EXPENSIVE. I bought mine for a few bucks each while the ones I found was like $30~40. Also I found a cable in a local phone shop - $40😱😱😱😱😱 Got one on-line, but still $10.
I will definitely put all my songs that I been saving up since 2009, Spanish, Japanese and English songs. I usually play songs at work for everyone in the restaurant to enjoy, so that’s the first thing I will do with this iPod.
It's been a while, but I wanted to write and tell you that without your videos I would not have been able to complete my custom iPod today. Seriously, thanks. After a ton of trial and error, I was finally able to build a 7th gen iPod Classic with Bluetooth, a 1 TB storage, and a 3800 mah battery. I tried for months to build one that included wireless charging on the 7th gen iPod, but I just couldn't figure it out. Maybe you could make a video for the iPod 7th gen but with a USB-C port and Bluetooth, or heck, just make it shoot lasers! 😂Regardless, I am grateful for your tutorial videos and I hope to see more videos from you soon! Happy Holidays!
Thanks for the kind words! I’ve also attempted wireless charging on the 7th generation iPod. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear to be possible without some additional hardware, as the 7th Gen seems to check for signal data on the data pins before it will initiate charging, unlike the 5th generation which will just charge as soon as it gets 5v.
@@Pendleton115 Ah! That explains so much! I ruined so many 7th gen logic boards trying to figure it out that it isn't even funny. Still, thank you for helping me this far and for responding to my messages. Happy Holidays! 😇
This is spectacular! I'd love to try scuffing the transparent back to give it a "frosted" look, and somehow sourcing a bondi blue faceplate - I think I could print one, but you're absolutely right that PLA can look a bit cheap. Do you think an iflash quad could be cut down for this? I know that if you use that, you can squeeze the 3000mah battery in with a thin back, I wonder if it would be possible to cram that, and the bluetooth module in (I assume the wireless coil is of negligible thickness?)
Heya, sorry for the late response. I’m unsure if a quad would fit, but honestly I’ve never used one so I wouldn’t know. If you do try it let me know how it goes!
Thanks for this video and your previous one, they are brilliant! I copied your design but had to use a different Bluetooth module and a reed switch as I kept messing up with the glue gun and push switch due to fat fingers. I was debating doing another one with USB-C charging so thanks very much for this video you have saved me lots of hassle as I'll use Qi instead.
I'm about to restore and modify a broken iPod, however unfortunately I I don't have either skills or equipment to do this kind of magic you did and will just replace the broken parts and switch the housing into transparent. It's great to see however, that the good old iPod can be modified this well. An elegant player for a more civilized age ;) Stunning!
I would like to add a DAC to my iPod for better sound quality, and of course a bigger battery and flash memory. The back cover would be perfect made of anodized aluminum.
Hello I just watched your incredible video and was amazed the whole time. 🙌🏻 I wish I could do the same and had an iPod Classic 5.5 exactly like that. The end result just looked incredible. 🤩😍
I’ve been wanting to start making these kinds of mods for a while, but I don’t even have any equipment yet. I’d like to find an easy first project where I can learn how to do several things and build confidence to try bigger projects like this one.
Super cool build, mate. A mod I would like to do is Bluetooth and wireless charging, this seems to be the build after looking at videos for the last couple of hours. If you do end up doing an Airtag mod I hope you record it so I can check it out too.

I love your videos. I actually attempted the bluetooth iPod classic mod myself, with several failures and 3 broken bluetooth adapters and it was fun. I have a question about the iPod classic ram and the screen. Is it possible to upgrade iPod classic ram, and 3d print an HD screen we see in iPhones today. Somehow programming it with the iPod. One day I want a 7th gen, 1TB iPod, with enough ram to hold a ton more music, an up to date screen quality, and with bluetooth. I know I'm probably daydreaming, but I just don't see anything on TH-cam or online for it at all.
I have absolutely no experience soldering, but with how you explained this I feel like this is a project I could do. I have one of those cheap charging pads that came out as soon as wireles charging became mainstream. Do you think I could use the internals from that inside of an ipod?
I haven’t attempted this yet, but I do repairs on various household, electronics, antique, and modern. I can tell you that the type of soldering involved in this is not at all a beginner level. Good solder joints on a standard circuit board like in a VCR take a bit of practice to learn. Micro soldering ribbon cables, and up against plastic shields in an iPod are going to be advanced level of soldering. As long as that charger outputs the standard 5V a USB charger would, then it should be OK.
super intriged on new mods you put in...also had extra thought ...you should try using the mini hard drives in building a mini external storage bank...I emagine they could still be adaptable to the 30 pin wiring adaptor...thanks sincerly George..
Feeling VERY late the party, but damn, that end shot is NICE... makes me want to dig up my 5th and 7th gens and do something with them!!! I was using my 7th gen up until the battery gave up the ghost in 2017 - since then its been iPhone city (lately with the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3s) but I miss the physicality and dedicated usage of the iPods of yesteryear.
I'm planning on making my iPod fully clear and adding Bluetooth. I recently added a SD card and bigger battery but I'm looking to modify it as much as I can.
Wow, this is literally every iPod mod needed to keep this piece of tech relevant today. However, do you think it’s possible to mod an illuminating click wheel, so it looks cool inside a car?
Im watching it quite a bit after upload as you can see, however, few questions: Why you have not added magsafe magnets neither round qi pad? Why you have not installed a bluetooth chip itself but a full board? Why you have not pulled audio signal out of 30-pin connector? And last one - why you havent used some different BT board like 30-pin accessory, so you would have AVRCP to control iPod remotely? As of the look, not my style, I'd paint that case from inside with some either silver or matte black paint while keeping OEM front. However, you've motivated me to do something what i wanted to do for a long time, to modify one of my iPods!
Very nice project I hope you will do something greater soon. I haven't any ipod or any electronic experience but I really wanna one of those ipods. However, if I had a chance, I install wireless charge, bluetooth device, huge battery and memory too. Moreover, I would use SSD and I prefer non-transparant case. The most of all I would place some magnets to use magsafe charge and other magsafe accessory (wallet, car holder, etc).
Amazing video! "delicately remove the battery" **CHOP** 😂 I'm going to mod my iPod by adding one of those iFlash cards, larger battery, and picking up a blue faceplate from EOE! The clear back would be amazing!!!

That is seriously impressive. What a cool device!
If I win an Ipod, I will upgrade the storage to it's highest and blast music non stop, the right old school way! :) Great vid btw!
Definitely planning on doing the Bluetooth mod.
Brilliant project!
Beautiful work, very detailed and smooth. Congrats!
Hey just you can add the mag safe magnets to make it stick in the right place an have a satisfying sound every time you put it on charge
Been looking into making a flash ipod for awhile, that clickwheel really makes it.
great soldering job and clean internals.
Hello
I just watched your incredible video and was amazed the whole time. 🙌🏻 I wish I could do the same and had an iPod Classic 5.5 exactly like that. The end result just looked incredible. 🤩😍
such a cool work. classic yet futuristic. I hope i won that clear ipod. will mod that to work with cf card, so the storage become huge
this is insane, you are a master solderer!
I’ve been wanting to start making these kinds of mods for a while, but I don’t even have any equipment yet. I’d like to find an easy first project where I can learn how to do several things and build confidence to try bigger projects like this one.
Amazing video man!
Would have been cool to add magnets like the new iPhones so it could technically have MagSafe but besides that amazing video man!
Super cool build, mate. A mod I would like to do is Bluetooth and wireless charging, this seems to be the build after looking at videos for the last couple of hours. If you do end up doing an Airtag mod I hope you record it so I can check it out too.
I already have a 5.5g with quad micro SD set and going for Bt and large battery with extra audio capacitors. I like your work👌
I love your videos.
I was using my 7th gen up until the battery gave up the ghost in 2017 - since then its been iPhone city (lately with the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3s) but I miss the physicality and dedicated usage of the iPods of yesteryear.
holy mother of ipods, this goes deep, really good stuff
Would you consider doing this if someone sent in their own iPod for you to build like this???? I would genuinely be interested
I'm planning on making my iPod fully clear and adding Bluetooth. I recently added a SD card and bigger battery but I'm looking to modify it as much as I can.
awesome idea using the hold switch as a button!
I'm not gonna watch the whole thing, but I just wanna say that thing looks awesome. Grats!
Wow, this is literally every iPod mod needed to keep this piece of tech relevant today. However, do you think it’s possible to mod an illuminating click wheel, so it looks cool inside a car?
Congrats! The iPod looks great.
Came out awesome! Definitely wanna do the Bluetooth mod!
Great Mod. I am planning a USB-C connector in my 3rd gen with an internal 12V step up converter.
I really like the hard drives under the yamaha amplifier xD! Good job!
"Delicately remove battery" *cuts wire* 💀
This looks so cool! Can wait to make my own.
Im watching it quite a bit after upload as you can see, however, few questions:
Why you have not added magsafe magnets neither round qi pad?
DankPods would probably want one of these.
Do you have a link to the 3D printing company you used, as the one I have tried has been poor too?
Wow this is so sick, love how it turns out!
That was great it’s a serious wonder why Apple doesn’t redo their classic
This is cool
Dankpods: Someones been in here
Amazing video! "delicately remove the battery" **CHOP** 😂 I'm going to mod my iPod by adding one of those iFlash cards, larger battery, and picking up a blue faceplate from EOE! The clear back would be amazing!!!
I love the DankPods cameo at 1:08 haha
