FWIW, I started listening a year ago because your early episodes were raw and it felt like listening to a buddy tell stories. I never listen to any other old west podcasts. I know finding greater success means refining your work. But, don't be embarrassed by the older stuff as that's why some of us are here.

Whatever, Josh. I think that we can grant you an honorary doctorate degree of wild west history. If you turn these stories into movies, I'm buying two copies just in case one gets damaged. Once again, well done. Thank you for your hard work.

Please remember there was a complete change in our society from the 1880's to this present time. Little to nothing is normal practices from then, and much if not all has passed into history. Sounds like Bill was a man of his changing times. Thank you BB, I find your podcasts very enjoyable.

We all mag be snowflakes to people of the wild west, “what you need a stranger to cook food in 20 seconds at a thing called a fast food joint?” “You need a thing called a smartphone to talk to your friends and family instead of Just going over to see them face to face.” Kind of thing lol

The best Okie land rush film, Cimarron 1931. Love the old films. They were closest to actual happening. Won Academy Award that year. Great rush scene and the hero is a man, with' feet of clay'. A Western aficionado, such as yourself, should watch. Good gunplay.

I lived in New Mexico and worked building chain restaurants and BIA houses on virtually every reservation in most all the of the state and having a keen interest in the local history know you are doing a very good job of relating it. I worked with a latino older fellow whose great grandfather was a member of the Silva gang which hung out with Billy for a period of time. Keep up the good work.

Finally found the crossover episode from the first name to the current. Fun!
There hasn't been a single episode, old or new, that I haven't enjoyed. Basically, if one of yours comes up in my feed I listen, whether I've heard it before on not.
As a poor retired Okie of a) a mother whose father taught her what seems now to be the extinct language of an extinct tribe from Alabama or Georgia, and b) a father who was a third generation cattle rancher, I'm always looking for new info on on the range of topics you most often cover.
You are the best I've found, both for research and storytelling ability.
I wish I could afford to support you monetarily, but I can't. I'll just keep smashing like and sharing and posting comments to feed the algo. Hope that helps.
Wishing you great success in all your endeavors.

Love your podcasts. TH-cam should be ashamed for putting so many commercial interruptions in your work. They are getting out of hand, I spent more time skipping commercials than listening.

    • @WildWestExtravaganza
      @WildWestExtravaganza  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you! So here's the crazy thing about TH-cam ads. It's all based on you as an individual. Sounds crazy, but hear me out...I've actually verified this with several different sources. I have the ability to go in and manually place the ad spots wherever I want. However, TH-cam does not automatically play ads in these spots. These are only suggestions. The way that TH-cam ultimately determines how and when you see ads is based on your own individual profile and "ad tolerance." No two people who view my channel will see the same amount of ads in the same place. The more ads you allow to play or the more ads you don't skip, the more ads TH-cam will show you.
For instance, sometimes I'll let TH-cam play for my daughter while I'm doing chores around the house. I'm not always able to run over and hit that skip button. The algorithm assumes that I'm cool with ads and they begin showing me even more of them. Lol. It's annoying, I know.
I'll say this much, though...I recently bit the bullet and went ahead and subscribed to TH-cam and it's well worth the money. Not only do I no longer see ads but I also get TH-cam music thrown in for free. I know this isn't an option for everyone, but it's definitely nice.

Hey thanks for the shout out! Awesome episode as usual. Now that you're changing the name of your podcast could you take Bloody Beaver as you wild west nick name? It's no Dynamite Dick but it's got some double entendre potential.
I checked out the Legends of the Old West podcast thanks for the recommended it's a hell of a show.
Also I would recommend doing an episode on Henry Berry Lowry. He is said to be a Robin Hood type bandit that fought the Confederates.
Finally it would be great to see you do those episodes again. They arent horrible as you think but you are right, your new stuff is a lot better. So i think i bunch of people would like those again.

I don't think it would be fair to judge these men by todays' standards. These were tough men in tough and tumble times. Quite a few of the lawmen at one time or another were outlaws and some lawmen became outright outlaws. One might say there was a larger gray area back in the day. At any rate , these men were bad asses that dispensed justice and upheld the law, and for the most part , commanded the respect of friend and foe alike.

Most of the “lawmen” of the frontier were just hired guns. Wyatt Earp would be a lawman in one town and a saloon bouncer/brothel security in the next. Here in Wichita, he spent much of his time on the west side of the river, where the “red-light district” was. I wonder if lawmen, in their heart-of-hearts are any different today. In Wichita occasionally a cop or deputy gets entangled with a “soiled dove” and gets disciplined or outright fired, even today. To quote the song, “same as it ever was, same as it ever was…” TALKING HEADS-‘1983”

So I went back and I tried to find some info (other than Wikipedia) and I did find an article in TrueWest that also states that her killer, James H. Many of the lawmen were pretty solid, but pay was so low.No pensions as they retired. It was a matter of survival financially to cross the line. The Earpes were just as bad as The Cowboys they ran into.

Best years I think would be between the 50s through to about the 90s. Safest for people to just live.
Medical up to par enough to live without a lot of worry. Minimal war happened in that time that effected the world population.. not world War.
    Cost of living was acceptable.
People were basically normal and good to live life to the best they could.
Before the 50s it was world wars and rough life in comparison .
After the 90s this kinda life started as we know it now.
I'm born in the 70s so I got to experience the last of the good times in history.
    We had everything we needed.
    Food was good and normal.
Could afford to buy a home.
Could afford rent. All that stuff.
So. The best years for humanity at least in North America was in my opinion between the 1950s and to about the 1990s. Before and after that we can't call good.
    Or acceptable.
We need to kinda go back to around the 80s ways .. not the clothes.. just the ways we all were. I will say again.
    Not the clothes..

@WildWestExtravaganza hahaha well back in the 50s and 60s clothes were OK and classy.
But my lord I looked like a bum dressed in the 80s and 90s lol.
I know there are a lot of females that think the pants that cover all the way up to the middle of th stomach looks good but it doesn't.
And for fuk sake can ypu imagine the shoulder pads again. I'm OK with jeans and a t shirt. Basics lol.
But now it's I don't even understand what happened.
Where did we go wrong. Look at the way people dress now.
      I can't say there's a better time then the 50s and 60s.
Maybe before then. 20s 30s lol.
      I'm just saying ..

Tilghman was of a different time. Back in the day, from what I've read and heard, a sheriff was often times, a pimp, of sorts. Prostitutes needed to be protected, and that would be a service the sheriff would provide, under the table, but it was also considered part and parcel to the job of sheriff. Not everywhere, it depended on the town or county, in question, but it was fairly common to the trade of law enforcement. I'm sure prostitutes were safer back in them days. Not that I would ever have occasion to, but I sure wouldn't want to do anything to upset a prostitute under the protection of the likes of Bill Tilghman. Hmm mm, no sir. Of course, this clashed with the idea of law being absolute because back then, they would get a cut of the action. I mean, that's why guys like that went to boom towns, to get a piece of the action. When asked why he left the town he had been working, Wyatt Earp said he left because the place had "lost it's snap". There was no action. It's kind of similar to the situation with Tom Horn. What they once did for a living, was an accepted practice, until it wasn't, and in that sense, old timers are often the victims of change.
Thanks for all the hard work you put into making these, it's much appreciated.
