Holy Moly. I cannot believe it's been 3-years.
Time is scary man
we all wont believe it till the day we die 🎉
1:52 ford tech here. I perform software updates regularly. Ford doesn’t allow modules to be updated all at once. It’s one module at a time and yes they do hold a shit load of info. Not only that, but a tech has to be present with the laptop basically the entire time to supervise the update because when one is done, the next module has to be started manually so yeah sometimes updates can take forever and a day to finish. A lot of times you have to road test them when you’re done too to make sure the updates went through fully with no bugs. Especially with Blue Cruise
100 years behind Tesla lmao
@@AP13P but also 100 years ahead of Tesla regarding build quality and reputation
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe Reputation? From running rain forest in south Africa (failed rubber tree plantation) to sponsoring Hitler - fords reputation is not the greatest. But yes they have few good cars.
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe Ford and build quality (or reliability) doesn't know each other.
@@AP13P My Mach-E has been the best built vehicle I've ever owned, and I've owned 20 vehicles from 11 different OEMs. Same as this video, not a single squeak or rattle or wear on the seats in 3 years. My Tesla had all 3 within 4 months of buying it.
The money issue is real. A real opportunity for used buyers. I just bought a 2022 GTPE with 5,000 miles for $35K. CRAZY VALUE.
Just got a brand new 23 gtp for 51 and with 0% interest out to 72 months. The 0% is what sold me vs 6% on other cars. Pricing on these cars has really come down.
I'm on the losing side of this very real situation. I have a '22 GTPE I bought new and while I don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon because it is a spectacular daily for my wife, it is concerning to still be upside down on a car after two years. I would highly recommend buying a used one to anyone, but could not recommend buying a new one.
I 100% appreciate your situation if there aren't new buyers there won't be used vehicles to buy. It also underscores the bad behaviour of Ford dealers that marked vehicles up over MSRP to now leave those owners with even greater losses.
@@jimhimes3506 Did you pay the $645 Ford "acquisition fee" for their loan? Because they can go ahead and shove that.
@@aluisious I just looked at my contact and didn’t see it anywhere
I've had premium, standard range, rwd for two years and over 45,000 miles. It's held up really well. I got the tires replaced after about 43,000 miles. I replaced the tires and rims with the old GT rims and got some hankook tires. I wanted wider tires, and the old GT rims look really nice. I actually use the frunk all the time but i have a 2022 model year without the divider up front. Great for putting food in there so it wont leave a smell in the cabin. Took it on a road trip from southern Virginia to New York and back with 3 other people. All our stuff fit in the back and the frunk. Blue cruise was sooooo nice to have on that trip.
We just posted our three year review video as well. But we didn't have the same Mach-E for the whole three years. We upgraded our First Edition Mach-E in 2022 to a GT PE. We love it and it has been great! The extra power and MagneRide make a huge difference.
We review a lot of EVs but I'm always happy when I get back into the Mach-E.
Just got a GT last month. Happy to hear about the lack of issues and how well the interior stood up.
I've had a few Fords and the quality on this Mach-E stands out. They really delivered on their first full EV
Thank you for being honest with the cost of lease. It creates a sense of transparency to the message you're trying to convey and is a well needed reality check for owning/driving a new car.
Just picked up a new 23’ GT. I am coming out of a 23’ Tesla Model 3 Performance that was totaled after an accident 😢. I will say the build quality of the Mach-E is so nice plus the deals that Ford is offering right now it was a no brainer for me. Thanks for the update on your Mach-E and good luck with the Macan EV!
$760 per month! Lucky you to be able to afford that. That's crazy money to me and many others.
We love our '21 Mach E. It's specc'd just like yours and is such a great commuter.
Very informative
Well said. Thanks Matt & Zack!
It has been very interesting to se your experience with this car. Especially since it was your personal car, and you let everyone know about the financial impact. Thanks!
Great wrap-up Matt. Your chronicles led me to get a used Mach-e GT and it's been exactly as advertised so far.
Glad you had a good experience with it.
Definitely interested in the Macan after we part ways with Model Y Performance. Bummed about lack of regen braking/one pedal driving, so we'll have to see how that shakes out...
Great call on the Porsche for the next one.
🤩big wing.
The random GT3 RS just casually chilling in the background.
That's crazy that they still use the OBDII port for firmware updates. Seems like a pretty big oversight, but it should be easy to correct.
there could be another wrinkle, there are unused pins in the obdii spec and other car makers have gone to can-fd or ethernet on those pins. not sure what ford's doing but ethernet downloads are quite fast. we're gonna have that port for a while still
That’s interesting to hear about the unused pins on OBDII and gives me hope that this can get corrected easily. I chalk up the oversight to Ford being a legacy brand given that none of them have done a good job with the software/infotainment side of their EVs. They’re the inverse of Tesla in that sense.
As a Mach-E owner myself I’ll vouch for all of this, and add that I think it’s the best-looking EV out there this side of the Taycan.
This video Is very informative !!!
What a tease with the 3RS in the background.
$770 a month for a $53k car is a terrible lease "deal"!! lol
He paid $27,720 over 3 years for a Mach-E. He also said he put some money down. Absolutely terrible deal.
Still better than buying it though tbh, considering his tax break (business owner+lease). Ford is struggling to sell these, they’re offering big discounts and they’re still sitting on dealer lots.
@@MrTickleBeanthe Mach-E isn’t selling?
@@upbeattvraw-hiphop8242 Just looked at my local Ford dealer they still have 15 2023 Mach-Es still sitting on the lot. All of them are discounted and Ford is offering 0% financing up to 72 months 😂
Nobody wants these.
@@upbeattvraw-hiphop8242 There’s 15 2023’s at my local dealer. All discounted heavily with 0% financing up to 72 months 😂.
They’re not selling.
@@MrTickleBean Who told you they aren't selling? The sales numbers for 2024 are higher than they were for any pervious year (year to date). Now that could be due to them being cheaper now, but sales are trending up.
Great, straightforward video. I really enjoy your style of discussion. The Mach E is high on our list of possibles when the old Venza bites the dust. Quite like the Volvo XC40 Recharge too.
Thank you for telling us your story
Was hurt/snobby about it's nomenclature having owned gas mustangs. Randomly did a focus group of E-cars & this was by far the sleekest designed one in a room of its peers. Those styling cues were the ones that mimic the Mustang. Credit where its due
Good job staying in good shape man
Great video! You summed up your experience, detailed your numbers, and even answered the question of if you would buy it again. All in just 12 mins! I agree that leasing is the best way to have a predictable scenario, because the resale value on these tech-laden vehicles after ~5 yrs is an unknown.
great video
I'm definitely not a crossover guy (or SUV guy, FWIW), but every time I see a Mach E on the road, I perk up. I really love the design and style of it, and I think Ford really did an awesome job at least with the aesthetics. Crazy to think that Ford used the Mustang moniker and actually delivered a mostly great electric vehicle! Good to know that the put some effort into it, instead of relying almost wholly on hype (**COUGHCybertruckCOUGH**).
Thank you for the long term review. Glad to hear the Mach-E held up and makes a decent valuable prop against the competition. Looking for to the Macan. btw..descriptions links need attention.
Great update! One fix for the worn image on the track advance button is cover it with black electrical tape. If you can't see the wear, it doesn't exist.
Love to see this. Many so-called EV fans (Tesla bros) said Ford would fail. Detroit still brings the stuff when they set their mind to it. Their electric F150 is pretty darned good too.
Thank you for giving an unbiased review of the Mach-E, and being openminded enough to begin with to try an EV as your personal car. So many car guys seem to parrot hatred of EVs, as if you have to choose either EV or ICE, and that it proves something to show a blind hatred for all that is electric. I think it is possible to be a fan of both. And I also think for a good lot of people, EVs will make more sense given their lack of routine maintenance like fluid changes and tune ups, as well as cheaper operating costs for electricity over the cost of gas.
Operating costs and cheap don’t apply to EVs I’ve met a lot of sad folks with 30k miles on their EVs and slapped with a $50,000 battery bill
Lol why are you lying? If its at 30k it should be covered by warranty. And battery packs don't cost 50k. Youre such a sad troll @SINE382
@@noelbaudy5371 look at motormouth they did an in-depth look at EVs and manufacturers not honouring warranty on batteries. There’s a class action lawsuit against Hyundai and Tesla currently
@@noelbaudy5371 all facts you can find
@@noelbaudy5371 a friend of my mine bought a Hyundai Ioniq6 it’s sexy as all hell I was gonna buy one. His battery failed, and they’re not replacing it due to heat warp on the skip pan under the car saying he “hit something,” voiding his warranty.
I was pulling for the Ioniq5 N to be the next Farah Family EV 😢
to be fair, they had the yellow 3RS the first week of April, before Matt even drove the I5N, so when this video was made it wasn't even a contender
I’ve seen other reviewers dog on this car, but I trust your opinions and went out and test drove one. I’ve always been a bit of a ford guy but had an open mind and did my due diligence. We bought our Mach e a year ago and I absolutely love it. It is so practical, drives great, and (minus the porsches) is the best styled EV out. Great car for the money, really and truly. Great video as always 👍 p.s., I use my frunk all the time, nice to have a separate compartment for the groceries 😂
👎🏼
I appreciate your videos
The best thing about a frunk... Smelly dog towels, slobbery Chuck-It balls, muddy hiking boots, etc. can go in there.
I've driven a few Mach E's, very impressive for Fords first electric car/suv. Fyi these are built on Fords plant just outside of Mexico City and find it interesting that everybody seems to agree they are made pretty well. Recently I see all the Toyota Tacoma people freaking out because the new Tacoma is being fully built/assembled in Mexico, at least for the NA market.(and they have been built in Mexico even the prior gen) Its robots making these cars, they are not hand build by my cousin Juan..lol..
People are scared of foreign built but American build quality is iffy long
Are Mexicans not capable of building cars? The ones I know are pretty hard working.
My wife has the AWD long range premium for a year now. We love it!
We use it for our daily car, and only charge at home. For long trips we take my ICE SUV.
For a primary I wouldn’t do EV, but as a second vehicle they are great.
Nice review. Figured Ford would not want to miss on this name plate.
We love our Mach E same espec as yours but wife put 22k in the first year and now the car has 36k with ZERO issues, if I have anything to complain about would the the suspension that we feel is on the harsh side especially with you riding in the back seat. Amazing car nonetheless.
Got a GT here and have owned high horsepower cars. No real negative and as Matt said, the quality is solid. We are laughing all the way to the bank as we have solar and pay nothing for gas to have performance car pickup. For the prices today, if u get the right deal, u can get a GT for mid $400 on a lease :).
I appreciate your ownership videos like this, very informative. Looking forward to the new series for the new daily.
This is a great long term. The next lease sounds like it will be really interesting over the course of the lease too!
Ahh, Azusa canyon. I cannot remember how often I did burnouts up there. I know my older son did many a burnout in his Lexus SC400 up there also. Great video! Wonder if this vehicle will look good after a million miles.
You give the most pragmatic reviews. Well done.
Last few vids have been really quality
I've not owned a car since forever, but I think I'd ALWAYS have good stuff in the frunk. A few changes of clothes, perhaps even my passport, sports gear, just a full travel set. Drinks and bars to make it through an unexpected long drive. Imagine being away from home and being presented with emergency travel. You're ready to rush to any airport, the "hidden" trunk has you covered.
Good to hear its a solid car.
So are you going Macan 4s for the range or the Turbo for all out lunacy?
Kinda surprised he didn't go with the taycan
@@jamespugh I would kind of do the Sport Turismo Taycan, but the Macan and Cayenne variants are probably way more practical
3:34 I assume the interior lasting as long as it did has a lot to do with Ford's much longer history at automotive interiors than say Tesla, but I'm absolutely guessing.
The interior is basically copied out of the normal Mustang, so it's functional and quite sturdy. Tesla has a good 15 years to catch up in build quality, IME.
The Macan Electric will be awesome!! Interested to see how the reliability and dealership experience is in comparison to the Ford.
Are those flashing lights on the steering column at the 6:00 mark an infrared eye tracking system?
Yes they are.
No summary on operating efficiency or battery health?
Honestly, this is pretty shocking. And an absolute glowing review from someone I would trust over just about anyone when it comes to vehicles. If Matt says it's good, it's good. Good job Ford.
I have a 23 performance edition with 20k miles. One enormous thing that is never mentioned. I live in the Rockies at 9000 feet remotely. My other car is of course a Jeep wrangler. I swap Michelin snow tires on the Mach e in during the winter. The car is SPECTACULAR in snow. The ford engineers must have done special stuff. As long as the snow is not into the bumpers the Mach e is noticeably better than the wrangler.
The electric vehicle took you into warp. That three years seemed like, oh, about fifteen minutes. Still looks great. Macan EV is definitely going to be interesting.
I wonder if warmer climates affect the button paint. I have a 07 fusion and 15 focus st 150k and 100k buttons are fine. Michigan
Not related to the car, but you are looking better, Matt, you lost a good amount of weight and look healthier.
So jelly that you're getting the Macon EV...
Makes sense you leased the Ford Mach E given the rapid advancements in EVs and new models being released every year.
I think the frunk is best for stuff you keep in the car 100% of the time, but don't use until you need them
Was this filmed before driving the ionic 5N? Because you were talking about potentially going that route instead of the macan EV
Hey, at least it’s not a Cubertruck
It definitely isn't. The Cybertruck is much faster.
@@anthonykiedis1765 Because that's what's important in a truck.
@@Hunter116 I didn't say it was. I was simply making a factual statement.
@@anthonykiedis1765 Hit the wall much faster.
@@Hunter116 Some guys would defend a literal dumpster with wheels as long as it was fast. There’s a lot more to a vehicle than pure speed.
The Cybertruck is ugly as hell and the build quality is an absolute embarrassment for any vehicle, let alone for a $100k one.
I thought for sure you’d leave us hanging on what you planned to get next! Can’t wait to hear about Macan EV ownership!
Frunks are nice for smelly things (even like food) if you don't want the smell in the vehicle. If you want to carry a plug-in 120v charger with you, a frunk is more out of the way.
1:59 funny you mentioned slow OBD2/CAN, my friend is working directly at Ford on something applicable. I cant say much more, and no guarantees it will ship soon/ever, but they know there's a bandwidth crunch. All automakers know about it, it's why many cars are picking up automotive Ethernet.
If you park in a garage nose in, the frunk is excellent for groceries. Much easier to unload. Assuming a suitable sized frunk. 😊
Like this, if Matt should get a new GX 550 for his new daily
High praise. Never had an EV yet but I’d look at a Mach-E if I was in the market for this segment.
Port transfer tech would require the govt to update their requirements. Its prehistoric tech for modern updates which is just downright insane at this point.
I think they could speed it up with other interfaces like the USB port in the infotainment. But of course that depends on the car having a high speed internal bus. I forget if the Mach-E has automotive ethernet or just CAN.
Strange, my 2018 Tesla updates just fine over WI-FI
You say you use the 110v outlet and I have a 2023 Mach-e but I can’t find it, am I missing something?
Those worn buttons look like a good niche market for an enthusiast to make a replacement decal/vinyl or something to make the buttons look nice again.
Yep it’s a great daily! Love mine and document my ownership on my channel as well!
1:41 I believe there have been some advancements since the '90s in the field of digital radio transmission which will allow for faster data traffic with built-in error-correcting protocols via something that the kids refer to as "Wi-Fi" (short for 'Wireless Fidelity'). It's all the rage with computers and this glowy slab of glass which I'm holding right now.
One of the best electric SUVs Ford makes
and soon to be one of the only...lol
What other ev suv do they currently make?
You should do a model y so we can see how broken it is after 30k miles now. They're a lot cheaper than the Ford per month.
Jeez. For the total of the lease payments, you could buy a Civic and then throw it away at the end of 3 years 😂.
Obviously a Mach E is more car than a civic, just interesting to think about
Alternate title: "I'm not getting an Ioniq 5N"
Damn
I think this was shot before the 5N…I think
Dude looking like Artie Lange more and more
Question for people who have a not of experience with their Mustang -E. What helpful or information does the "trip Information" give the driver? Acceleration = 79%, Deceleration = 93%, Speed 100%, Climate = 55%, driving = 38%, accessories = 50%, Exterior Temperature = 2 %.
Don't say it was your wife's daily and then mention tax write offs
oops 😂
Glad you didn't get a lemon!
7:32. How many cats fit in the frunk ? Seriously, it is worth considering the front-rear weight balance if you can move 250 pounds from the rear tailgate to the frunk or vice versa. In NYC, I see a number of Mustang E-GTs as police cars, so it will be interesting to see the cost of ownership data and longevity vs the all-time great Ford Crown Victoria.
2 Bears 🐻-1 Cave Pod, nice!!! Lol
I reckon the problem with the wheel buttons is Hand cream or whatever moisturizer oils rot the coating . I've seen the same in some Lady driven Cars the Buttons have melted where touched 🤔
Track Advance button is your wife's fingernails. I have zero fingernails and my 130,000 mile and 9 year old F-150 has zero wear on its track advance button. Of course it started doing everything else on the steering wheel except for track advance when I press it, but it's not worn at all. Feeeeengernails.
I would think it’s also warrantable…
Some sort of port...perhaps some type of universal serial bus. Get the Ford scientists immediately!
I've been very happy with my 2022 Mach-E GT, but I wish I'd had the funds to upgrade to the Performance Edition, if only for the Magneride.
At 8:04 he says it has a 110v outlet? Where? I have the AWD version of same model but don't have a 110v outlet.
Hi, what model are your new balance? Thanks
TY
Part of me thinks it would have done better without the Mustang name as it seems more of a well designed value play that happens to be speedy. There are more interesting offerings and lower priced options in the space so despite how well built it is it is tough to see how it becomes a market leader. As a former classic Mustang owner I can't even consider it.
Are you going to get Ioniq 5N or Porsche Macan for your next daily driver?
What was the lifetime mi/kWh at 30,000 miles?
It seems that The Mach-E is as good as the Nanner Puddin' donut at Krispy Kreme.
I don't ever go to Krispy Kreme but I do like banana pudding, guess I need to check that out. Cool review too btw lol
Will have had my 22 GT for one year this coming July. Only praises. Ford's only mistake was trying to one up Tesla. In my opinion they succeeded but in doing so pushed the Mach-E beyond the realm of common affordability, which is Ford's turf. An upscale version should have been marketed under the Lincoln brand. At any rate Love my Mach-E.
Hilarious that the, maybe, best car in the world is in the background.
I just wish my ownership experience had been as uneventful as yours. I'm on HVBJB failure #3, and working on a buyback now.
With the hat, I thought that was one of the Lakers. Lean and mean.
