I was in Korea on holiday when the tragedy happened and I was so angry at how the media handled the whole situation. I was there again a few years later and I still have a vivid memory of standing by the road side in Seoul in the pouring rain watching friends and family members of the children who died, walking the street, protesting, asking for justice. I cried so hard. There was nothing I could do to help them except support them. I have never felt so useless in my life. To this day, when I watch this video my mind is cast back to those times. It was a tragedy that should never have happened if not for greed. It is a beautiful MV and is rightfully called our Queen by ARMY.
Thank you for sharing your experience with me. It’s absolutely devastating to hear about it, and I can’t even imagine being there in person. BTS’s tribute is truly special.
Spring day is the queen of all the kpop songs💜 spring day still until this day on the Korean charts music since it was released I love this song so much
I cried a lot the first time i saw this video and i still crying every single time i see it. I try to imagine how helpless and hopeless the parents of the children have felt and i feel, even as an outsider devastated. Their lifes have changed forever 😢. A lot of respect for all the artists who have the courage to speak about what‘s happened even they recive massive backlash from the authorities and got blacklistet. Thank you for your reaction and compasion.💜💜💜
I’m glad you got to experience the song and its true meaning. BTS debuted in 2013 and the incident occurred in 2014 so you know that they weren’t making a lot of money and weren’t as famous as they are today. For them to donate money to the family was a big risk to their career as a lot of artists were blacklisted for protesting the government’s handling of the situation.
i want to also add that spring day is also a song that is simply close to our hearts. during the pandemic bts often chose to sing spring day on prerecorded performances saying that they miss us. right now as i type this spring day is rising on charts again because the rest of our boys said their goodbyes today and are enlisting tomorrow, so we are all pretty damn sad and will miss them lots
@JessReactsToStuff updates, spring day got #1 on iTunes in US, UK and many many more countries yesterday! I think it was a first time it raise to the first place. a 6yo song did this! right now Outro: Tear is also rising to take the first place army don't playyy
bts actually do have a song named A Supplementary Story: You Never Walk Alone. it's not a rather popular one, even among b-sides, but it's absolutely gorgeous and have the most heartwarming message
Thank you for doing this. If you search you'll find clips from the kids calling their parents from the boat as it's sinking. Some of the crew who escaped leaving the kids on the boat committed suicide, some are in prison. It's so horrifying and heartbreaking. The guys have said the song is about loss and grief but everyone agrees the video is about Sewol. I'm happy it just remains on the charts so that more people discover it and find out about Sewol. Deep breaths, let's do better 🙏💜
Spring Day is a brilliant example of the riscs BTS and Big Hit have been willing to take even though it could've easily ruined them. But they know how to walk that very fine line of speaking out but also surviving by being really clever in how they do it. IMO it's this authenticity and dedication that sets them apart from other artists, especially in K-pop. Spring Day is still on the Gaon chart even now after six years and I think that says a lot about the importance of this song in South Korea. During the pandemic Spring Day took on another meaning as well when BTS made it their anthem in regards to how much they missed ARMY and directly interacting with us. They included it practically every time they did a virtual performance. They really suffered mentally at the time and they weren't afraid to say so. (Again.....authenticity.) That's why it's so important to both BTS and ARMY. Btw, if you want to see where they quarantined back then, they actually filmed the MV to Life Goes On in their own IRL dorm. Jungkook directed it and all members played a part in the planning, styling, execution etc. of the song and album. (Another example of their rebellious side is their last concert in Busan which was just the most *chef's kiss* way of telling the politicians trying to use them as political pawns to F off but that's an entirely different sh..show. I will say though that among other things they put both the train and the carrousel from Spring Day on the stage! 🤘😏🤘) 💜
Wow! Thanks for sharing all of this with me☺️ I will have to react to the Life Goes On music video sometime. BTS’s authenticity is so apparent with Spring Day and I cannot wait to see more of it
Such a tragedy. This is a wonderful reminder of those unfortunate souls that passed on that tragic day. I did not know the full meaning of the song but I do now. I want to thank you for bringing this to our attention. Take care.....
Thank you Jess. THIS is exactly the reason I recommend to everyone to search for explanation videos, usually found on DKDKTV, before reacting so that the mv and explanation can be done back to back. The songwriting is genius and the meanings so much deeper than the English lyrics. Please check out the mv and explanation for RMs 'Persona' as it is te introduction and explains many of the lyrics and visuals in the Map of the Soul series. Another with great meaning and detail is 'Daechwita', 'Baepsae' their most politically controversial, 'Ddang', 'Uggh',....always look for an explanation :) ARMY grandma
💜🙏Thank you for sharing your reaction to Spring Day..... I want to share with you a comment to another reactor from a survivor of the Sewol disaster.. I would like you to hear from him just how BTS has healed him through this song and the messages they have: His name is Chilo Abellon - and this is his public comment in full - unedited - from 2 1/2 years ago.......... "I remembered when they rescuing us its so tragic when you see your classmates/friends stuck asking and hearing them scream for help, the screaming and voices of people asking for help while the ships is sinking the scream slowly vanished. When you can’t help them because the water got deeper and deeper while they rescue us slowly. The time that i got rescued only 3 of us survived, my two classmates and i in our and my other classmates stuck in the ships hoping they’re still alive but when the time i heard the news that they’re all gone. It slowly sinking in that all my friends and the other class are gone and will never comeback. I feel guilty when I survived, I’m thinking am i lucky? Or is it not right that i was alive and not them? Do i deserve to live?. Feeling depressed, having suicidal thoughts, every night you can’t sleep because i keep hearing those scream a scream people needing a help but you can’t because your weak and got broken bones. Everything time I struggled to see what life is all about, thinking what if all of my friends survived and they with me survived. It would be dream to see that happening. I struggled to make a good life that i can be proud of because of that incident happened but when i found out about BTS my life changed me because of their music they changed my life the way that i can be proud of and I started loving myself by little by little and finally the day I realize life is so short and the incident happened 7years ago impacted my life to be a better person and all of our hardships are just a big task for us to make them done and the outcome will be 100times better the incident happened 7years ago thought me so many things. The biggest one is don’t forget they might be gone but don’t forget them put them on your heart and like life all of your hardship and your mistakes will not lose or fail you it’s always a win win situation because we always learn from them. Spring day is my number 1 fav song of BTS because I reminisce the things happened 7years ago while watching the mv and it always help me to keep going in life and do not give up on things that i want to achieve - My name is Chilo one of the survivors of the sewol ferry incident." I truly hope he does not mind me passing on his public comment - but this best shows the power of BTS message. The worst thing about the disaster - the captain and most of the crew fled the ship in the morning 9.35 - the ferry did not sink until the night - they left the warning to "not move and stay still" playing on a loop through the ship. Only the children that disobeyed the warning survived. The others drowned as they were so ingrained to listen to authority. The civilian boats that attempted to rescue people were stopped by the coast guard as people would discover the boat was illegally overloaded. Parents on the shore were receiving desperate calls and texts from their children begging for help. And the coastguard did nothing. The only rescue the coastguard made that day was the captain and crew... The people that got rescued were rescued by fishing vessels that got there first before they were stopped...3 years the ferry lay at the bottom as the Govt would not raise it for fear of discovering the truth, parents unable to sleep knowing their children still lay trapped at the bottom of the sea.... when they could finally access the ferry, They found video footage taken on mobile phones that were recovered of children wishing their families goodbye. Only 3 crew members stayed behind to try and help the children, they all lost their lives, along with one of the rescue divers. Also, one of the civilian rescue divers later committed su!cide after having to recover so many childrens bodies, knowing that he could have saved them but was forcibly stopped. As a parent, I could not comprehend having to live through such a thing. Sending your child to a school excursion, have them calling you begging for help, being on that shore watching authorities not attempting to rescue, to never have your children return, and know they are still underwater years later..... Horrific that your own government would perpetrate and then cover up such an incident... jailing dissenters for protesting. It was proven that there were high officials with financial interests in the ferry. The president colluded with them to bury the truth and hamper investigations... 10000 people in the public eye (reporters, artists, etc) put on a Govt blacklist for speaking about it. BTS went and paid respects to the parents of the victims in 2014 when the tragedy occurred. No Cameras - No fanfair - just doing what was right...They also donated approx $100,000 (that year they only earnt $300,000 - they gave 1/3 of their earnings) to help the parents in their fight for justice.... We only found out about the donation years later as one of the parents was sick of all the hatred BTS was always getting and wanted others to know what decent and good people they are. The MV, The album cover, The choreography all relate back to the Sewol. But the song itself is about missing anyone you love and are separated from. They have since been singing Spring Day during the panademic as the world was now longing for a spring day. Spring Day has never left the music charts. To this day, it is still in the top 100 charts.... 7 years later, and this song still speaks to people everywhere. Sorry this is so long - but I really wanted to pass his comment and information to you relating to your Spring Day reaction video.... with posting your reaction you have helped keep the memory of Sewol alive and maybe others who do not know of it will learn of the tragedy. Thank you for sharing your journey, and helping to spread BTS message... Sending greetings and love from Australia.... BORAHAE💜 #WeNeverWalkAlone
thanks for reacting to Spring Day, THE QUEEN and the explanation. ARMYs, please stream Spring Day everyday until OT7 is united again. lets go!!! fandom hug* how are you all guys doing? 💜
Hi Jess, Spring day coreography is as heartbreaking as the MV, please watch the dance practice of it, when you can. It is a perfect example how dance can enforce the lyrics. Such a wonderful song about loss, grief, sadness and hope❤ Namjoon is a true poet who can speak directly to your soul!
Jess pls watch the other explained video too. U can watch on ur own. If u search Spring Day explained u will find the other video. It has some info not included here. Spring Day charted at #5 yesterday. Go Queen. Go army!!!
Thank u for reacting to the MV as well as Italian ARMYs video. This is one of my favorite BTS song which is still charting in Korea even today. I’ve been a crying mess this whole day since Joon and Tae enlisted today, we got an OT7 pic(with Yoongi whom we haven’t seen for months), and Jimin and JK doing their last live saying “see you later” to us since they enlist tomorrow. So this song is even more meaningful for me today. We will miss our 7 but can’t wait till 2025 when they are all together again! 💜💜💜
Small factoid. The money that BTS and BH donated to the Sewol Victims Association was 1/3 of their income that year. Not sure I have the right words ....
When I saw your post about the video that you were uploading today, I thought it was probably Spring Day. Just to clarify, the MV and the song aren't necessarily related. The song was written about RM and Suga, in particular, missing friends that were no longer a part of their lives. The video, however, is definitely about the Sewol tragedy. Jin confirmed it in an interview in 2020. The boys also used the song to represent the Covid situation. A long winter that would eventually come to an end, even if we weren't sure exactly when. For me, the thing that I love the most is that this song and MV have allowed the wish of the survivors to come true. The lives lost in the Sewol tragedy have not been forgotten and they are in people's thoughts and prayers still today.
BTS along with other artists were blackballed by their govt for speaking up against them. This song…is BTS and ARMYs song..we will ALWAYS stand up and speak for truth😢💜 The korean media is corrupt, and reports what the highest bidder wants them to. Yes BTS under that umbrella, (because they are physically there) but “K-pop” hates them. BTS came up on you tube because kpop(the big three) blocked them. BTS are independents and don’t owe the traditional cost to the media. When K-pop couldn’t erase them, now BTS “represents K-pop” bullshit. So much information available on this💜…BTS are You tubers lol
The sad part is that it is much worse than explained in this video, since it is focused more on the MV... Stephanie Soo has a podcast where she went into extreme depth and detail about this tragedy (Rotten Mango channel) it is 2 hours long and it is so sad, I had already watched and read about the tragedy and knew some of the details, but she gets articles translated and does a ton of research to explain everything as best as she can.
I can't believe RM wrote this song sitting in the park watching tree leaves falling , he's so talented 💙💙

Perfectly said. It’s just so terrible and learning that BTS have created this to talk about it, makes me respect them even more. Thank you💜
GREAT TIMING! We are having a buying party to push spring day to #1 on iTunes! Currently #1 in 27 countries & #2 in the us! We are soooo close!
It's #1 now 🎉
Oh! I had no idea! It ended up being a good coincidence then☺️
