Attack on Bangtan is indeed referencing Attack on Titan. In Japanese, the manga is called Shingeki no Kyoujin, the rise of, the march of, the titans.. strangely translated to English as Attack on Titan. The song, called 진격의 방탄, Shingyoke Bangtan in Korean, means The Rise of Bangtan, but they keep the strange naming convention from the manga/anime and call it Attack on Bangtan in English. Although, you can often see both names-- this is why.
@butterbuttersbetter3689 happy that my explanation could help! I love the chaos of this song, and I love that these brilliant dorks named a song after an anime 😁
For some context: South Korea has one of the highest suicide rates in the world & it's worst for adolescents & young adults. It's a, "developed," nation, but that development happened in a shockingly short span of time. Like a lot of wealthy countries, there's a vast gulf between rich & poor & enormous social & cultural pressure to achieve. In the U.S. we know that a lot of the educational system has become devoted to, "teaching for the test," i.e. entrance exams & SATs. In South Korea, multiply that trend by 10,000 and add (functionally mandatory), extracurricular activities and a limited number of slots at the three universities considered the best & you get a pressure cooker for children.
O!RUL8,2? is still in my Top 3 BTS albums. It has so many of my favorite songs. Coffee, If I Ruled the World, Attack on Bangtan, We On...bop after bop. It's so underrated but it's a whole classic. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! :)
Agreed!!! Most Beautiful Moment in life pt. 2 & Wings will always be my top but O!RUL8,2? is so insanely good for their first comeback like wtf who even does that.
You have to rally appreciate the risk they took in releasing N.O. I’m not sure if you are familiar with the school system in Korea. They go to school until around 2:30, then they go to an academy or study hall to get more schooling, if you are in your senior year you might even go to these study centres until late at night! It’s relentless pressure! So this song is quite bold for them to talk about in their second ep!
paldogangsan is such a great song. like i cant imagine the grief of being one people but due to outside forces you get put on opposite sides. from what i hear from koreans is that unification is something they wish for so deeply. so profound
I love how cleverly they link songs and albums together. The way the Outro both repeats lines/concepts from the preceding songs on the album and then leads directly into the theme (Skool Luv Affair) of the next album. And this carries forward in future albums too. Pure genius!
They honestly have one of the most cohesive, impressive discographies I've ever heard! There's such a clear sense of narrative, since they wrote about exactly what they were going through at each stage of their career/lives, and lyrically the amount of interconnected themes and metaphors which run throughout all the albums is amazing. They don't just put random call-backs to previous songs, they develop the ideas in interesting, satisfying ways as they gain new perspectives over time... These days it's rare to find mainstream artists who can even make a cohesive album, but with BTS there's so much I feel like you basically have to listen to their entire discography to get the full impact of their message!
People don’t get it. Sure, they are young and handsome, but they are also intelligent, deep feeling, introspective, masterful ARTISTS!!! They. Are. Art. And that is why I love them. It doesn’t hurt that they are also very nice to look at 😉💜
I love that even though this was only BTS' second album and first year, all of the songs were still bangers and well made. Attack on Bangtan goes so hard live!! Also, when will this be on Patreon?
It always amazes me how prophetic their song and lyrics were. They have many, many songs that literally predict BTS current state. Love it. Tell it to the universe (and work hard) and the universe will respond. I looooove Coffee. In some FESTAS and later lives they performed old songs. It is fantastic! I for sure would love a concert with all the B sides and old songs.
I remember them performing NO maybe a year ago or two at an awards show (I think) and it was like such a throwback!! like it was so much fun! It’s crazy bc the message still holds up. Their music is timeless
literally started watching your videos from ur Julie and the Phantoms reaction and had nooo ideaaa that you reacted to BTS until now and let me tell you I just spent my last two days catching up on your reactions which I absolutely loved BTW!! im so glad you get the vision and the message that BTS portray and it’s been a lot of fun watching your reactions!!

coffee is actually a remake but if you listen to the original it sounds so different! it's such a good song 🥹 been listening to coffee since it was released and im so sad it doesn't have music video THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!
I love your reactions, especially to BTS’s albums! It’s so refreshing to see people genuinely appreciating real art and music like you do. Since you clearly vibe with artists who pour their souls into their work, I thought I’d recommend two incredible musicians I think you’d enjoy: DPR IAN and Tamino. DPR IAN’s music is like stepping into someone’s mind-it’s emotional, cinematic, and so raw. His songs often touch on mental health and self-discovery, and the visuals that go with them? Absolutely stunning. A lot of his work reflects his struggles with bipolar disorder and DID, which makes his storytelling so personal and deeply relatable. MITO represents his low periods, while Mr. Insanity embodies his manic states, and he visually brings them to life with stunning colour-coded aesthetics. His ability to turn such personal struggles into art is honestly brilliant, and it makes every song feel like part of a larger, beautifully crafted narrative. He’s got such a unique vibe; I think you’d be blown away. Tamino, though, is a whole other experience. His voice is hauntingly beautiful, and his music mixes indie with Middle Eastern influences in a way that feels almost otherworldly. Every song is packed with emotion, he’s the kind of artist who makes you just stop and feel. His lyrics are poetic and introspective, often exploring love, longing, and identity. Tamino’s music feels like stepping into an old soul’s world, where every note and word carries weight and meaning. I really hope you can see this comment, because I have been relating to you a lot while watching your reactions, and a part of me knows you will really enjoy these both artists! Wish you the best!

I love the song “coffee!” I always have, but even more so since I’ve worked as a a barista for the last 6 years 😝 They have performed it live in concert, but they probably perform it less because it’s actually a cover/remake. Coffee is originally an Urban Zapaka song. They are like a korean modern folk group. AMAZING singers. BTS changed the song to R&B and wrote original lyrics for pretty much all the rap parts. Another fun tid bit is that back in the day “We On” was also one of the boy’s favorite B-sides. I love the school era and “Dark and wild” era BTS!!
