That is so wonderful, Ban. We had such a wonderful time in Kuwait with Khaled - he went out of his way to ensure we experienced as much as possible of his incredible country. He features in most of our Kuwait videos and we consider ourselves blessed to have met him 🤗🙏

Im happy you enjoyed what little we could offer you in Kuwait and thanks to Khaled for representing Kuwait well. I watched all your Kuwait video and I enjoyed them.
Thank you so much for this lovely comment. Khaled was the most amazing host and he wanted us to see as much as possible of his fascinating country, which is why we made 6 videos during our 5-day stsy! Khaled exemplifies the incredible hospitality and kindness we encountered in the Middle East, and is a wonderful ambassador for Kuwait 😍❤️
Hi. How are you? in which country do you live? ❤
Many dishes were of turkish origin and many were of Indian origin. Very hard to know which ones were authentic Kuwaiti.
this guy represents Kuwaiti people l can say his manners are not friendly and he is an arrogant person. The way he asked the person to give him food. He did not thank the guy who served them coffee. On the other hand he was very friendly to his white guests. My question is how do Kuwaiti people treat working immigrants? This video and other videos I have seen I have impression that you look at them as a subhuman.
@@mikhoozagsar2584 I agree with you, I also didn't like how he treated the worker at the ash shop. A lot Kuwaitis don't think about the feelings of the workers, but there are also some of us that are considerate.
Lived in Kuwait at 4th ring round for 3 years. This country is my favorite country in the Middle East!
We can see why. 😊 Great place, great people. 👍

With Lee's and Mandy's permission, westerners (and non-westerners) need to understand something important about diwaniya (guest room) at 8:20 is that these are places where men meet and socialise every day as Lee said in the video. There is a reason behind the idea of diwaniya (or Meylas in the UAE where I'm from) which I would like to explain to everyone. It is traditional for men, in Arab Gulf region, to follow a strict etiquette when meeting women (such as no use vulgar language, no talking or laughing loudly, no prolonged eye contact, no ranting, and other things). The only time men have a bit of freedom of those formalities is when they meet and socialise with other male friends. Liberalists in the West portray that tradition as a form of sexism, which is laughable!
The closest example of that men gathering culture in a country like, say, Australia (a place I lived in for almost two decades) is the local tavern. It is a place where Aussie men meet, drink and chat and rant after working hours before they hit the road home. The only difference is that Aussies don't have that strict etiquette when meeting women. Each culture interprets freedom differently.
One more thing, diwaniya culture is not strictly bedouin. All sorts of Arabs have it, be it coastal Arabs, oases Arabs, or high land Arabs.
Great work, Lee & Mandy!
Thank you so much for sharing this excellent information pertaining to diwanyas. It is always so much better to have an explanation from a local perspective, and we appreciate you taking the time to share this with us all 🙏👏 ~ Mandy

I'd like to see that government food subsidy happen here in the UK.
Isn't it a brilliant idea! One of the many things we loved about Kuwait! ~ Mandy 😀😁
Even in Egypt the government subsidies bread.
🇨🇦I’ll vote for that…❤
No chance sadly. UK government policy insists that the free market must reign supreme.
A subsidy is not free. It is the taxation from one group of people being used to give something for free or at a lower cost to another group of people.
at 19:12 is the pictures of all the heroes who died for the freedom of Kuwait in the 1990 war. The park is named al shaheed park which means Martyr's Garden, It's made to honor them and remember them.

WOW! Mandy and Lee, this video has a lot of good information! Khaled is an awesome tour guide! The healthy breakfast look really good! I am impressed to learned that the government subsidize bread and the bread looks delicious! 😋 I like that you bring bags for the fresh bread. The waiter was fun and talented. The fresh camel milk sounds interesting, I wonder if it would go well with coffee. The Kuwait homes are interesting and have great community. Alshadeed park is beautiful. I didn’t know that Kuwait is cold in the winter, for some reason I thought Kuwait is hot all year. 😂 Please share the cost of the Delicious dinner (my mouth was watering just watching the food) 😊. Thank you!
Hello Sue, and thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I'm not exactly sure how much the meal was, as we invited Khaled but he insisted on paying! If you check the menu prices I think it might have been around $40-$50 US, which is still excellent value for 3 people with loads of food left! Once again, thank you so very much, Sue. We appreciate your kindness and support more than words can express! 🙏😊 ~ Mandy

I just want to comment to try to explain the co-operative concept. it's very old we had it in Kuwait since the 1960s I think. It's basically the local supermarket in your area, owned by the government, and has its own locally elected board, and its own budget. The locals (of the area) can have a membership, it is more like a loyalty program, you don't pay to get it, you get it only if live in the area. The more you buy from them through the year the more points you get, by the end of the year the board announces the profits they made, and based on it and your buying history you get a cash-back percentage of your purchases.
For foreigners, it's a weird concept, but we got used to it a long time ago, and makes sense.
I think it's a brilliant idea 💡👏 Thank you for your excellent explanation!
I came upon this video quite by accident but I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, the enthusiasm from you both and the hospitality of lovely Khalid and the local people. I would love to go there one day, thank you for sharing these I will now go and watch more of your content about this beautiful culture and then on to the others, cheers!

what a great discover Kuwait is! I also added it to my bucket list ☺ and Khaled seems super nice and friendly 😍About the cooperative: do people pay based on the income or does the cooperative buy a huge amount of food in order to get a good price and then the members of the cooperative can buy a small amount at a good price? Can't wait for your next video 😍
Gloria, thank you so much for your lovely comment, and for your wonderful support! I am so happy that you enjoyed our Kuwait videos as we had such an amazing time there, and wanted to share this fascinating country with our viewers!
Khaled is absolutely brilliant, and we were so fortunate to have such an amazing Couchsurfing host.
I think the Co-operative makes money from the ground rent on the buildings... I know there's something to do with groceries as well, as the shop assistants would ask if a person had a Co-op card. I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable can tell us more about this excellent system!
This was our last Kuwait video... next week it's the first of many videos from our Saudi Arabia series, and we really hope you enjoy them! ~ Mandy 🤗😀
Thank you about me 😊.
The cooperative is like a company but it's strictly for Kuwaiti people who live in the same district can be a shareholders, there are many cooperatives, one for every district, it contains a supermarket and other shops.
Anybody can buy from any cooperative but gets the benefit only from our cooperative that we have its shares.
The price supposed to be less, the yearly benefit might be more than the shares price, some times doubles.
@@Khaled_Alsharaf Thank you, Khaled! I tried to understand the concept of the co-operatives as they sound brilliant, but I couldn't quite grasp the finer points. Thank you again for being such an amazing host and friend! 🙏😁 ~ Mandy
@@FrugalTravellersI
The coops are government run supermarkets with fixed prices. Each person living in the coops district is a shareholder with a shareholder number. Everytime you purchase they ask for your number. At the end of the year profits are shared amongst shareholders (ususlly 5-8% of your total yearly purchase) in cash.
Coops also provided free staple foods each month to every household, amounts are based on number of individuals in the household. It covers all your basic food (rice, pasta, chicken, oil, flour, milk, etc). If you have babies also includes baby formula.
And finally, shareholders get gifts during celebrations like Ramadan and Eid... usually food baskets or thinks like thermoses/tea pots etc. There is a light competition in which coop has the best gifts. 😅
What a showman that waiter is! Such fun.
I agree, Carolina... he was brilliant! He actually did another pouring show in Arabic for Mr Lee, but it was a bit long to go in this video. I might put it up as a Reel one day 😁😀 ~ Mandy

Hello Geoff! It's always great to hear from you & to see your travel adventures on Instagram 😁⭐
Kuwait is awesome and the food was delicious and surprisingly reasonable! It's so much less expensive than New Zealand, which has gone crazy expensive 🤔🤑 ~ Mandy
Harries The white one is ground grain similar to porridge, and yarish the red also grain but with tomatoes and spices very popular dishes in winter to keep you warm.
Thanks for this information. 🙏 We have discovered so many amazing new foods here. Delicious 😋
🙏👏❤️💖
Yet another entertaining and informative view provided by Khaled for you.
Thankfully you guys walk a lot as Khaled's culinary generosity would have you stack on the kgs "thirteen to the dozen". 😂
I found the dychotomy between the subsidised bread and the prices of food in the menu at the end to be strange.
Plain bread is so cheap and yet what I would consider more often consumed drinks and dishes to be as expensive as here in Melbourne (Australia).
Hello Mac Cat! Thank you for your wonderful comment... it's always so lovely to hear from you!
The prices at the end weren't actually that high when compared to New Zealand restaurants... one of the most expensive dishes at 5KWD = AU$24 or NZ$26, and it would be difficult to find a fancy dish at that price in NZ now!
Khaled was an incredible host, and we know just how fortunate we were to meet him! 😀🤗🙏 ~ Mandy
Just to inform you that the camel milk is rich with proteins more then the cow milk , and it has less lactose then the cow milk as will . It is such a healthy drink that’s why people in past were stronger and healthier 14:05

Hi Mandy / Lee, finally U've done a "Kuwait food vlog".
I was kinda missing that on the past videos. Everything looks yummy, I was quite surprised when you mentioned the price of bread.
Subsidised by the government or not, it's still extremely cheap.
Hoping you guys are having a good time down under. Are you back working / filing the Bank account?

The co-oop or what u can call it the supermarket in each suburb it’s like every district has one of these which has the services for the district such as hair saloon for women’s only , supermarket, barbershop for mens only,Indian restaurant and a random shop also they should have big parking lots and other restaurants. Now each district got 1 of these big building called ( jame’eia - جمعيه) and each block in the district got smaller version which is called ( فرع) meaning (branch) so each branch of the main thing (the jame’eia) has also barber and small convince store and an Indian restaurant and a bakery , by the way the bakery and the Indian restaurant sales food so cheap so everyone can eat and that is a rule in Kuwait to not leave any person hungry . Lastly , all of that branch’s and jame’eia people of the same district on their civil ID if it says that they are in this district they can have a share of the profit each year 6:47

As for the cooperative, the people of the region contribute, and at the end of the fiscal year they share the profits, and the profits can reach 600 KD, approximately $2000.
That's so interesting, thank you! Are the profits from the goods sold, or from ground rent? ~ Mandy

The land is owned by the government, but the profits come from the items that are sold inside the central market, and the shareholders have the right to own some shops outside the central market, such as restaurants, barbers, and, and ownership is done by lottery

beautiful coverage. I hope you enjoyed your stay. I rarely find videos from travellers vlogin inside the living areas and getting a sense of the living style. not limited to tourist attractions. that was very interesting. Khaled mashAllah is a great host as well. Hamdu LiAllah. liked your observation of the Co-ops markets. you explained it just right 👌.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and compliment. We had an amazing time in Kuwait, and so much of that was due to Khaled's incredible hospitality. We saw so many interesting things in this fascinating country, so I ended up making 8 videos in total of our amazing experiences. I'm not sure if you've seen our other Kuwait videos? Not sure if anyone from middleeast shared this earlier, that camel milk in Kuwait and GCC countries is known for its anti cancer effect. Hope this info becomes helpful to you in your recovery. Best wishes💗

Regarding the coop market as a kuwaiti you have the right to buy a share in the market and at the end of each year the coop. Announces the total profit of sales then they will announce the profit % for each share, for example ( year 24, the profit would be at 12% for each individual of there total purchases ) to put into numbers ( if my purchases around 1000 kd in year i will receive 12% from it a total of 120 kd, etc… ) and the profit % of each Coop. market Varies from another the average is around 10% around the country. I hope this simple explanation solves you kind questions about kuwait
That is such a brilliant and clear explanation! Thank you so much for sharing this information. I think the Kuwaiti co-op market system is excellent and I wish we had it in New Zealand 🤗🙏 ~ Mandy
For breakfast everything is soupy which means you eat it with bread or a spoon, ok I want to know the flavor I will try a little of everything just to see what I really like or not like.I want to see what they eat for dinner, I will eat anything but lamb.
I love soupy dishes so breakfast was perfect for me! 😀😊
