Just a nitpick: The two round things on Titus' forehead are called Service Studs. In the case of Titus, every one of those Studs denotes 50 years of service. In Space Marine 2 he has 4 Studs and one of his Squadmates remarks it means, he has been in service for 200 years, but in Space Marine 1 he only has 2 Studs. So in conclusion by the time the first game takes place, he has been in service for 100 years and during the second game he has been in service for 200 years, meaning there is "only" a 100 year gap between the two games.
Read White Dwarf 498. The guys at Sabre got that both right and wrong - Titus spent a century in stasis. Chronologically, he's close to 350 years old, but only 200+ of that were in service. But that's down to the game script being written before the article.
I dont think its 200 years, its 100 years. You can tell by Titus's service studs (on his forehead), he has 4 of them in the new game, which is a total of 200 years I think. He has 2 service studs in the first game, and 2 more in the second.

The original Space Marine game isn't super necessary for anyone who might now be jumping into Space Marine 2 - the stories and (most) of it's characters are separate, and if anything would only serve as setup for the fact Titus is not your average Space Marine, and it's nice to see another important 'named' Astartes outside of the books. He's experienced enough to have served as a Captain, which is a pretty big deal, and also of course his unique resistance to the Warp which can imply many things, which I'm curious to see if that's explored in this sequel. There's also Leandros, whom I think will just be a foil to Titus and a grim reminder for the audience that the duties of an Astartes really only requires two things: the capacity for war, and your absolute loyalty. The job does not care if you are a free thinker, or compassionate to your fellows, or any sort of heroic in the slightest.
