Can A Company Demand High Performance AND Collaboration?

In the early days of Facebook, employees were expected to become literal "friends" with their coworkers. How does this square with the idea that the company is a professional organization where low performers will be cut?

Philip Su is an engineering leader with experience at Microsoft, Facebook (Meta), and OpenAI.
