  • This is an overview video for installing an Android radio in a 2009-2014 BH Hyundai Genesis sedan. It highlights the components that you will need and some of the challenges you will find when swapping your stock radio to an android. This video is more of a reference and guide rather than an installation video. If anything it will you get a pick list of what all components you will need as well as highlight some of the challenges you will face during install. I am trying to find a volunteer that has a stock navi or Rspec lol mine has already been dismantled and ran new wires and used two new amps. So I am bypassing stock system. However, what you would need to do to get sound is run the amp trigger wire from the harness to the back of the stock amp. Hoping that i can still make a video one day. If you have base package, these should be plug and play without any issues.

    Glad you opened the comments. Great video. I have a 2012 Genesis Sedan with Tech package. It looks like this model year has a quite different head electrical system compared to the others in this model year. Crutchfield don't recommend changing the head unit out at all. Wondered what year your working on. Incidentally your links to the products you recommend don't work.

    Also, my installer has not figure out a way to hook up the new Head Unit to the Lexicon Amplifier other than through the AUX connection. It's got a terrible humm. Anybody got any ideas on how to properly do the connection?

    • @joeman255
      @joeman255 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I see at 9:08 in the video that if I had the proper CAN Bus we could hook up the Lexicon amplifier by using the wiring harness plugged into the DVD. Would this eliminate the hideous hum/hiss I currently have using AUX?

    • @Gen1Gen
      @Gen1Gen  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello there Joe. If you're system came with the DIS knob in the middle, unfortunately you will have to run a trigger wire (any regular ole power wire cable will work) , it will need to go from the harness (blue/white stripped I believe). It is sometimes labeled "amp". It would go into the amp acc or amp/on connection. This would wake up the amp.
      As far as the hum...i assume you are only getting it when you put the 1/8" jack inside the AUX? Basically, the problem is with the DIS knob is that once you swap your unit to an android, the DIS knob is bypassed, but the amp has to wake up. Thats why the need for that trigger wire. Amp is in trunk right hand side if 12 and up (passenger). If 11 and below (to my understanding) it is on driver side

    • @Gen1Gen
      @Gen1Gen  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joeman255ideally it should. Hums are usually ground loop issues. I am actually trying to figure out how come you are having the hum. So currently right now, you are getting sound from the head unit by inserting something through the AUX port? If i understand correctly?

    Hey, I don't think this bezel would work with the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe GT. I've been scouting Ali Express for various options since I don't like the buttons on the tablet, and I've seen many advertise 2013 but have this custom bezel. Am I missing something?

    • @Gen1Gen
      @Gen1Gen  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, this definitely won't fit a Genesis coupe as bezels are completely different. I did notice that Chinese store put the word "Rohens BH" for both the sedans and coupes....which is obviously not correct...can't be for both. I think the technical word for coupe is the Rohens....at any rate, I actually have found radios for my car using that term lol

    • @Gen1Gen
      @Gen1Gen  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you don't have the tech package and you "want" to add a camera (If i understand correctly), you might can actually just drill from outside trunk to the inner trunk liner. I would have to inspect the layout of a base package (sans camera layout). Your other task would have to be the running of said wire to the front of the car (your dash). You do have to take the back seat out for this. Hyundai engineers really thought it would be funny to design it like this (roll eyes)

    Did you have any problems with no sound. Connected everything up, lights up but no sound.

    • @Gen1Gen
      @Gen1Gen  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you have the navigation with DIS knob, and do not run wire to trigger amp from new harness, then you will most likely run into this issue. You have power, but the output from canbus is not transmitting wihtout the amp being triggered. Previously the DIS knob which selects the amp input does that....not the DVD player + DIS knob is bypassed,..that is why this problem occurs. IF you have the option that is touchscreen OE radio without dis knob, you would have been good to go.

      Could you go into more detail about this process? I’ve installed a new 9” Android into my 2012 5.0 R-Spec and everything works except for the temperature reading doesn’t change and having no sound. @@extraplain Hello there. Sorry for the delay in responding. So if you got a canbus decoder as part of your radio kit and it doesn't show the HVAC info, it may be that you are not set on the correct driver for your specific car. To remedy this, go into your settings (the setting that will require pass code). Depending on your unit, you will need to know the pass code for the android piece. Once you are inside this factory settings, find CAN settings - Once you are in there, there should be a section which shows the options of drivers. Select something that is Korean and closest to your car - Mine I believe is set on K5 (it's a kia optima similar year setting).

    It's crazy you gusy are so enthusiastic about this series of Genesis. I have a 2009 and it's been a nightmare. So many factory issues. from the rear shocks feeling like you're going over curbs on bumps, battery drain from the under hood sensor not making contact with the anti-theft, radio sound getting louder and or lower randomly at times, and now i'm dealing with a diode that caused my brake lights not to work. It's also a huge gas guzzler more than any other car i've owned. i'll never buy another Hyundai again after this nightmare.

Never had those issues you mention but of course the 09 is the first year of production of the Genesis so there is bound to be issue. Like all other cars, it will have its fair share of issues; still the most bang for buck you can find out there though.

I usually average about 21mpg through my average work week which includes a decent blend of city driving and highway. If I fill up and then head out of town on the interstate it’s usually 26-28. And funny you mention back up cam; have to look into mine. Just today, the feed went out LOL I suspect it's the power wire or the RCA Video wire. I actually think there is a way to tap into the existing camera wiring without taking the trunk sleeve off. It will require two of the same adapters - (1) power to rca (kinda like a line level converted) at the screen side (wire should be the one of the ones that connect to original screen), and the other is same adapter but where camera wire is. Idea is to convert the stock yellow (or organge) / black / red wired into a power + rca. The converters should work in theory. This would avoid having to take trunk sleeve off and utilizing stock camera.
