I only have one kidney after a nephrectomy as a child. After being a meat-eater all my life, I switched to a wfpb diet and improved my eGfr filtration rate by 25% in just 3 months. I’m not going back! Thank you for another amazing episode ❤
I have polycystic kidney disease. After over four years on a WFPB eating program my cysts have gotten smaller each time i have a scan. No one wants to admit it's the food change. I know it is the food change.
I’m recovering from chemotherapy that injured my kidneys. I’m on a low salt WFPB diet and kidney function is slowly improving. This is my lifestyle now.
The nephrologist who treated a member of my family with renal disease was totally ignorant of this information, even though my primary care physician on the West Coast knew this information years ago. The nutritionists on the case were equally ignorant. It amazes me that medical schools are so far behind the curve in training new doctors. The U.S. spends almost 20% of GDP on healthcare, but outcomes in the U.S. lag far behind other countries that spend far less on healthcare. Every nephrologist and primary care physician should know what this doctor knows.
Most Informative & Interesting ❤ Dealing with one of the important organs of the body with care. Thanks ❤ ! But how can the kidney be assessed through urine flow
Chicken meat especially when it's raw should definitely be considered a biohazard. People in my family still handle and eat this unfortunately. I should send this video along with Nutrition Facts videos on these matters to them. Thank you for this episode.
Just ran across this video in my feed but I’ve never heard anyone say not to supplement with magnesium unless a doctor has recommended it. I find this statement rather odd when considered to all the videos on magnesium…
@Dr Barnard. My eGFR is 82. I take 20 meq Potassium along with all the other electrolytes. My diet is keto. I consume lots of saurkraut and tomatos. At age 76, I want to get my eGFR over 90. And I monitor my glucose levels. Around 90 fasting and not to exceed 120 after eating. What do you suggest I do? I also walk 15 miles a week in the sun.
What about side effects of medication I'm on rama pill for a high blood pressure and I've heard that it can cause kidney issues and I've been on it for a year and a half and all of a sudden my kidneys are starting to be affected what the hell is up without before the meds they were fine
I am so sorry this is happening to you! I have no medical training, but if possibly, maybe find a PCRM doctor that you can visit in person or via their telemedicine outreach. Most doctors never mention side effects unless you ask.
A whole foods plants based diet will help your blood pressure down, so you would also be able to lower the use of medication. Do get help weaning yourself off these medications: you risk it going too low.
SAD is high in fat and high in processed foods which many people refer to as carbs but they are not the healthy carbs we should be eating. Processed foods turn normal ingredients into pretend foods that are highly toxic for our bodies. Dr McDougall refers to them as poison
Countries that consume the most meat such as Finland, Iceland and Australia have the lowest death rates in the world caused by kidney disease. Countries with the highest death rates caused by kidney disease such as El Salvador, Nicaragua and Pakistan consume the least amount of meat and animal foods and have low cholesterol levels.

Excellent information. Thank you both.

I'm no dietician but for those patients i co manage with nephrologists for their multiple chronic diseases they specifically say plant based
One of my favorites ❤ thank you

I wish I hadn't missed Planet Va. I had not heard about it. I will check the one in MD. Thank you for the information!

Got my book from barnes and noble. Great book! While i had the chance i also got a few other of his books and I'm sharing them with a coworker.
Bought the doctors book..love the recipes!
Thank you from Rockford, IL
I am quite surprized that you would talk about kidney health wothout emphasizing water and exercise as the most important things.
It’s a basic self lifestyle practice. You do not need a doctor’s opinion for that.
@@eddiecepeda315 I don’t even know what “self lifestyle” means. You just made it up for the occasion, did you not?

It be nice if chuck interview bariatric nurses or doctors.
I would also like to know if bovine collagen can damage kidneys.
What about oxalates? Spinach etc...
Hello! 👋
Just ran across this video in my feed but I’ve never heard anyone say not to supplement with magnesium unless a doctor has recommended it. I find this statement rather odd when considered to all the videos on magnesium…
Is bovine collagen bad for kidney health?

He would tell you to slowly transition to a whole foods plant based diet. More beans, soy and nuts and seeds.

The National Kidney Foundation says to avoid: sweet potatoes; spinach; berries and bananas.
What about oxalates from plants?
Cook your kale and spinach….
SAD is higher in carbohydrates than in fat.
Is it? Seems it is a high percentage of both

What do you think of Ozempic for diabetes?
