I tell you the other fake videos that I hate. The ones where it starts....day 1 learning piano, then week 1,2,3 etc to a year later and they are playing a really complicated classical piece like some pro classical player. Such B.S. 😂
Or those where this guy is playing a public piano and suddenly another musician appears out of nowhere, casually carrying its own instrument, and they end up “improvising” together.
Most piano progress videos are legit even crazy ones. 1) some people are smart 2) people who record themselves from day ones are by default ultra organised 3) most of the time they record partial pieces, just 20-30s of hard pieces not 3min 4) a lot of them actually post weekly or monthly videos and are fully legit
OMG! Thanks for exposing this lie, I had watched that here on TH-cam, never again! I've learned so much with you guys, I'll stick just with you, thanks a lot.
These videos with numbers on the keys unfortunately also circulate frequently on TH-cam shorts. It is a disservice to music and especially to pianists and keyboardists. Laziness and meanness have reached an unacceptable level and, worst of all, disguised as “easy” tools. NEVER USE THIS RIDICULOUS AND WRONG METHOD OF NUMBERS.
It's a shame. This is why it's such a breath of fresh air when artists step up and actually perform live. Tori Kelly, Teddy Swims, Jacob Collier. These artists have such talent and seemingly don't fake any of their performances. The performances are always slightly different.
Because playing the piano is a skill that requires thousands of hours, years, decades, most people dont have the required dedication to master such a skill.
OMG, there are SO MANY scammers on youtube. TH-cam knows I occasionally watch car videos so it will occasionally spit out one of these "garage find" cars. You know, cars that were supposedly stored in a garage for decades and forgotten about. So these videos will have a title like "This decades old barn find... WILL IT START?" And they all have like 3.5 million views. I GUARANTEE you every one of those videos in a scam. They take some old car, put it in an old garage and cover it will dust, and then film the video. These grifters need to be banned.
Playing playback has long been common. I remember the hard rock group Europe (80s; known for e.g. "The final countdown"). One of their former guitarists, John Norum, quit the group when he got tired of always just playing playback at the live performance - he wanted to play real live but wasn't allowed. And who has forgotten the 80s group Milli Vanilli...
Lewis capaldi not really playing the piano is kinda sad actually, he can't play piano anymore because he has a tourette syndrome. It's so sad to watch because he used to be a great pianist, that's why he tell the audience that he is not playing the piano anymore. Such a humble man
I will just say, I played the piano for my 83 year old mum and she cried. I was totally crap playing something that wouldn't even pass a grade 1 piano exam. Then I spent 4 months practising Happy Birthday every single day on 2 hands and she cried again. Then she started hitting me and I finally got the message. But the crying part was true. She said she never thought of me as musical. It was the hardest I ever worked to give her a birthday gift.
I can't enjoy the performances at big events, like the Thanksgiving parade, halftime shows, or the Olympics ceremonies anymore, because NONE of it is live.

pretty much any pop show with click/backing tracks has a good amount of this...singers miming, plenty of faking...the unfortunate thing is that's more and more common to have the tracks louder than the musicians playing live...
It reminds me of some other videos that show cartoon characters playing piano and then video shows what it actually would sound like based on the keys the cartoon character played. Technically not a tutorial but funny. I am taking actual lessons but would never fake play at a recital. I just practice piece for 6 months prior!

JVKE has admitted to using the transpose button because he is not at the skill level to play it in the key it sounds best sung. But yeah the TikTok promotion is definitely edited to add the detail he can't play in one take.

The sad part is not that they are faking it but that so many people pay hundreds of hard earned dollars or euros to go and watch them and they go home after the concert with the immense satisfaction of having finally watched their favorite band play "live"...
About the Jvke thing.. I think he was playing and singing in a different key for real.. then he put the studio track in the video during the editing. Atleast that's what it feels like
